This thread has gone like a real life diet, it started off being about working out and losing weight, but has quickly veered into cakes and ice cream.

How true!
The Health Dept here where I am is thinking about putting on a Fat Chat line, where people ring up when they are having trouble staying on a diet.
The FAT CHAT line!!!

Took the words out of my mouth.
*considers making diet joke and finds it too awkward*
I run.
If I'm not running, yoga and sit-ups are my preferred alternative.

If you need awkward....I'm always right here for you my dearest...and I mean ALWAYS
You need be hitting at least 3 a day for me to count it as running...i dont get the whole yoga scene but anyway.
Still trying to get my running back in line, keeping up with my bjj/mma though. Does having to stand for one week at work count, cause I did that last week?

Well, who asked you?
Oh, right. I meant to say, "But of course; I shall strive to please you more satisfactorily in the future."
I did say that I run, not that I was proficient. Just to clarify.
And you need to be reaching a higher level of activity than just standing for me to count it as working out.

But when I stand it generally is to yearn for you? That gets my heart beating quite quickly and I generally work up a sweat.

I once went a 15k jog before. I didn't run for another week, I was so tired and sore.

Yeah I do,
Im easily if not the most experienced runner here, in the top 0.01%. I ran just about everyday in college, the very longest run we EVER did was 2:20 and it was about 21 miles. No one jogs three hours a day (maybe ELITE ELITE runners), dont challenge me on this Im not ignorant and I wont be fooled

Not that I want to cast doubt on the validity or consistency of your statements, but surely a three hour jog would cover far more than 15k, given that a roughly average walking speed would achieve that distance in that time? Seems odd that a shorter version of your daily jog put you out of action for a week.

Why are you rolling your eyes when you admit you don't know much about jogging/running?
Having a vast amount of running expereince and being as 'fit' running wise as only a very tiny % of the population, I think I am able to speak on what is and isnt feasible for a teenage 'jogger'. Considering my fitness far surpasses Mathgeek's and I never ran more than 2 and half hours or so, yeah Im certain he doesnt jog three hours a day (he even admitted it when he said he had to take a week off)

That IS why I am rolling my eyes...I don't know why a fit person would not be able to jog for 3 hours...it seems do-able!
So with your experience, are you in the top % class of athletes?
If you are, I'd expect you could run further than that every day.
I don't know why you are laughing that Mathgeek took a week of...resting is a valid activity for highly skilled athletes.
I am not trying to argue with you, just saying, just because you may not be a top athlete, doesn't mean you can't do it.

I didnt mean this to come off as a here is my resume post or a knock on Mathgeek, or seem hostile, but he is simply not running 3 hours a day. Has he done a 3 hour jog here or there....sure I'll buy that, even though as Smithy pointed out he is doing it at walking pace.
Facts are facts, no competivite runner trains (runningwise) 3 hours a day, NO ONE does it. For a solid but nothing special college runner thats 26 miles a day for me, a Marathon a day. I dont even think elite marathoners get there except MAYBE one week or two, and then there are probably a handful of truly insane people who do it as some obsession. That much running destroys your body, and if Mathgeek really is doing that, he should be focus on doing his running faster, to cover 9 miles in lets say 90 minutes rather than 3 hours.
I was laughing at Mathgeek because he said he had to take a week off due to his three hour run, yet still says he does it everyday

snappytom wrote: That IS why I am rolling my eyes...I don't know why a fit person would not be able to jog for 3 hours...it seems do-able! I'm guessing you've never run any great distance. Perhaps you could try truly running (talking about a nine-minute mile, maximum) for a mere hour and you might understand how difficult it actually is. Reading about it and being impressed is one thing. Experiencing it and realising what kind of torture that is in reality is entirely different.
I don't know why you are laughing that Mathgeek took a week of...resting is a valid activity for highly skilled athletes. The fact that Mathgeek was forced to take a week off after basically walking around for three hours (and apparently counts it as an achievement) is more than enough to tell him that Mathgeek is not capable of jogging for three hours a day.
And resting is absolutely required for all athletes, not just highly skilled ones, but a week's worth of rest is pretty extensive after just a 15K, especially if you're a runner. haha
