I think we should hold a chess tourney, OR a chess puzzles competition. What do you guys think?

Both good ideas, Putter! (Although I'm now unsure whether that would belong in Sports or in Games... )

Spider, I dunno your side, but if you're trying to prove that Chess is a sport, you're doing well. I've never seen a single sportsman who looked as intense as that fellow up there. My god, the man can probably wrestle with bears, sip a cuppa, and still ruthlessly annihilate all those who dare face his wrath in one go. Yes, he has three hands; that's just how good he is.
I don't play Chess by the way. Nor have much of an interest. But good luck to all who do.

Harry, I have seen your puzzle a couple times and spent some time working on it.
I had just posted something where I basically said that I could not see a guaranteed victory in 3 moves because the red king could move out of the choices I saw and when the post came up and I saw the puzzle again, I saw something I missed before. You almost had me.
Second edit... I put the answer in white in case someone else wants to work on it
Move rook from a5 to a7. Red king has to move to g8
Move knight from e8 to f6... check.
If red king moves back to f8, move rook from a7 to f7... mate
If red king moves to h8, move rook from a7 to h7... mate
Finally, though the players may not sweat a lot and they may very well be over weight and out of condition, this is a sport. You can bet on chess matches at sport bars in Vegas... and you know they wouldn't do that if it wasn't a sport!
I played darts for a few years... some argued it was not a sport, but it does require some talent and thinking. Yeah, I was a bit over weight and out of condition also, but I could hit those ton 80's at times... because it required practice, endurance and a steady hand. Point is that it definitely is not an endurance game like soccer, but it is a sport, it does take practice and some good thinking.
