I don't have a link handy, but did y'all hear that Sonny and Cher's daughter, named "Chastity", (Oh! The irony!) is having a sex change operation to become a male?
I mean... I really don't care what she does with her life, and if that's what she really needs to do, I spose it's good for her that she can do it. I was working at Borders when her book came out several years ago, about coming out as a Lesbian, and I saw her in person when she did a book reading/signing here in Philly. She was very very easy to like, funny, just a bit masculine but not much, and very nice looking. She was very outgoing, and she shook hands and signed books and talked to everyone who was there.
So, I had such a good impression of her, as a female! So personally, I'm kind of... uh, kind of disappointed that she's going to be made a "he" surgically and with hormones, and personally kind of a bit grossed out I guess.
But that's just MY feelings about it, and they don't apply to her, of course.
Anyone else have any thoughts? It's pretty unusual for a woman to get an operation to be a male... rare the other way too, but far greater numbers of men become women.
Life... can be so many things... how can anyone ever think they are RIGHT? HAhahahahahahaha!!!!! |

At first I clicked the link on AOL, but then I was like "Wow, thats Sonny and Cher's daughter...I like Sonny and Cher...."
But then I read it, and it was no big deal, but then at the bottom it explained the surgery etc...thats when I got grossed out, clicked it off, and tried washing my mind out with anything I could.

I am so over who wants to be what these days.
Sexuality is a private matter as far as I am concerned. I really dont give a hoot if someone is heterosexual, homosexual, transvestite, transsexual...what else is there? Combinations of all....who cares? Anyone who comes out and makes a big deal of it has a hidden agenda - book deals, documentaries, interviews, magazines...if your next door neighbour did something like this, would you care?
Privately, good on her [Chastity Bono, I mean...] but makes no differnce to me.

I don't give a rip one way or another, but what gets me is the first line in the article. Here is the quote from the AP: "Chastity Bono is having a sex change to become a man. "
No matter what wacky procedure this operation may include, you cannot change a female into a male. The line should read: Chastity Bono is having a sex change to become man-like.

Agree that it is her business.
Personally, I think it's sad she wasn't happy being who she was and feels that becoming someone else will solve that problem. If it does, great. If it doesn't, what next?
But whatever...

Then she can make herself 33% woman, 33% male, and 33% girl again. She'll be a woman, man, woman....

I don't believe in any surgery that defaces the human body and is not medically necessary. Any surgery is risky: infection, poor healing, unexpected outcome, etc. *shudders*

People who require a sex change are the people who have been born into the wrong body.
Honestly.

To that question, I'd say God does. But that's a whole different issue, and I won't go any further on that.
There are cases where there's a definite birth defect where the s** of an individual is not clear . . such as a baby born with a va9ina and a pe**s. Or a p*nis, but also a uterus. Those cases should be dealt with surgically. IDK - but I'd say that the s** of an individual in those cases would be determined on the internal s** organs that are present. In other words, if there's a uterus, ovaries . . . . . then the pen** on the outside is a birth defect, and should be removed. These cases are rare though, and do not pertain to individuals that just want to become the opposite s** for their own gratifications.
edit - sorry for all the *'s - but I couldn't type out certain words.

Okay, minor flaw: You cannot truly change your sex.
Why? Because it's genetically determined. Even if it managed to totally change organs and hormones, they still have their genes. And brain which may have gender-based differences.
In addition, if it stops using outside hormones, what would happen naturally? It'd go back to producing its natural hormones.
You are what you are at birth. Whether it be via God or genes.......
Well then. |

I don't know....
if you are born into a boys body and truly believe you are a girl....or vice versa...
i am not talking about when someone is 15 and its a 'cool' thing to do...i am talking about those people who don't fit in because on the outside they are one thing but on the inside they KNOW they are the other....

Some people are intersex -Not everyone is born with XY or XX chromosomes - there are a variet of conditions where their are some abnormalities in the chromosomes. There are also a number of conditions where the production of hormones or the capacity to take up the hormones is abnormal. There are also conditions where the external genetalia do not match the genetics. So it is not always as straightforward as ifb suggests. The inersex lobby is arguing that in these instances surgery should be delayed until the child can make up their own mind what they want to do and that simply proceeding with surgery to ease parental anxiety about having an intersex child is unethical.
Certainly not all transgender individuals are intersex - most are not-. There are some some suggestions that the prenatal hormonal exposure has a large impact on gender identity irrespective of genetic make up. While one can question the quickness to use surgery to deal with a whole range of discomfort, anxiety one has about one's body,(eg. cosmetic surgery) surely it is a private individual matter.
On the topic of surgical modifications to genitalia - what about the increasingly popular new genital cosmetic surgery for women - labioplasty

Just read the entire wiki on this... based on what I read, this seems a much more reasonable form of cosmetic surgery than the vast majority of them out there, as long as it is being done for the right reasons. Some malaligned sense of normalcy based on media perceptions or pornographic material is not, in my opinion, justifiable... but with a 93% satisfaction rate, this seems like a reasonable procedure that women should have the right to have if they so desire.

I've actually known some women who used to be men. In NYC there are probably more pecentage wise than most places. Often they are ecstatic at first, but there are lots of side-effects and it's not all a walk in the park... from what I've been told and read, etc.
I saw Chas in person several years ago, and she was very attractive. I just saw some pics of her on TV, and OMG, she looked nothing like that when I saw her! She gained about a hundred pounds, and just looks really awful.
Idk but if the satisfaction rate is as high as Pal found, then I'd say that after spending at least a couple years dressing like the desired gender and taking the hormones, if someone still wants the surgery, then it's up to them.
I understand that they feel like a man in a woman's body or vice versa, I do... but personally, I believe that they should live as that sex before surgery, and actually that is usually what they have to do. That way, if they dress and take hormones for a few years, have their fun, feel like their real selves, sometimes they might find that they don't want to go "all the way". It's also, like others have said, not a complete change, and although I've seen and known some amazing looking woman who used to be men, there are also lots of sex-changes where the results are not so super-duper, and the man looks like a man dressed as a woman, and vice versa. Again, it's all up to the individual, of course. But we all have our own feelings about it, and my feeling is- be very careful! Take it slow!
Life... can be so many things... how can anyone ever think they are RIGHT? HAhahahahahahaha!!!!! |

OK... I have to ask... what are we talking about- exactly- in the above post? ew... I mean, I looked it up and labioplasty is surgery on the lip... so what's this about "tidbits" and actioning them off?
I kind of don't want to know, because I think I may pass out or throw-up, or both, or worse, when I find out!
what is WRONG with people???

This is really becoming a gross conversation. Ugggh!
