This is a topic dedicated to odd, offbeat, or otherwise strange stories. Most of these don't lead to a lot of discussion, therefore don't warrant their own topic - hence why I'm making this one.

'First Irish case' of death by spontaneous combustion
A man who burned to death in his home died as a result of spontaneous combustion, an Irish coroner has ruled.
West Galway coroner Dr Ciaran McLoughlin said it was the first time in 25 years of investigating deaths that he had recorded such a verdict.
Michael Faherty, 76, died at his home in Galway on 22 December 2010.
Deaths attributed by some to "spontaneous combustion" occur when a living human body is burned without an apparent external source of ignition.

Yep! There are whole websites and books devoted to spontaneous combustion! It's even happened to me, many times! But honestly? I believe in it!
Oh, gosh... I come across strange stuff so often, but, not having a place to share it I forget it.
Something that has intrigued me for a long time is natural light phenomenon. In the book "The Mothman Prophecies", the location where the mothman was seen is said to have naturally occurring light phenomena regularly. It's said that in certain locations, you can go at night and just watch balls of light rolling over the ground! I have wanted to visit this place for ages! I have looked on the net for more information about it, and so far, I haven't found anything really juicy. But. Since this is a new topic, by one of my all-time-favorite- people-in-the-world, I will come back here when I find something else to post about Balls o' Fire.
OK, this is me, a few mins. later. I found a pretty good link. It talks about "The Mothman" which is a great book, movie, and story if you haven't heard of it, and, it talks about lots of other weird stuff! Mothman Related Stuff

Interesting read, Shawn. I've never heard of that before. And thanks for the compliment
This is a relatively popular story now, and definitely out of the ordinary, so I thought it was worth posting:
Man, 68, recovering after 6 days trapped in ravine
A 68-year-old grandfather is recovering after he survived six days trapped in the Angeles National Forest following a car accident.
The crash happened on Lake Hughes and Pine Canyon roads Sept. 23 when David Lavau's blue Toyota plunged roughly 200 feet down a steep ravine.
Lavau's children are extremely grateful that their father is alive, and they're crediting themselves for finding him after days of combing the highway.
Lavau kept himself alive by drinking creek water, eating dead bugs, bees specifically, as well as leaves. He couldn't climb out of the ravine because he had broken several bones, fractured his back and dislocated his shoulder.

omg! I heard about that! His kids got worried and went out and found him, after looking for Idk how long! Then they had to have rescuers help to get him out of the ravine. I just wonder how long I'd starve before I gave in and started eating bugs!!! Yeah, I'm a big ewie-cat! That was the main thing that stayed in my mind after hearing the story on the news!
You are so very welcome, my friend! You never heard of The Mothman Prophecies? It is a really good movie! I read the book first, which I loved. But the movie, while of course it didn't have all the stuff that was in the book, was quite good, and Richard Gere is in it!

I am quite the survivalist.
I went almost two weeks once with only a sleeping bag, a knife, and a flashlight.

Oh, and a phone, but for evacuation only. No survival help.
I taped it too,but the camera got wet. -_- Lost everything.
It was still a great experience. I had fun... kind of...
And that's why, children, that I will never go back to the 99 acre woods.
(That's where I was, Mel's 99 Acre Woods. It's a nice area, with few paths.)
Dare to challenge this? Ask me any question.
Anyways, back to the topic.
Lol at all the funny/scary articles. I'll post one if I find one.

I'll have to check that movie out, Shawn. I've seriously never heard of it, but from the way you've explained it, it seems well known
Here's something hilarious I stumbled across...from the family we all know and love...
Westboro Baptist Church announces protest at Steve Jobs's funeral....in an ironic way
Westboro Baptist Church announced plans Wednesday night to protest Steve Jobs's funeral, sending the message out. . .wait for it. . . via Twitter for iPhone.
Margie Phelps, daughter of the small church's founder and the lawyer who represented the church during their First Amendment case at the Supreme Court, (which Westboro won,) was among the Phelps family members to use Apple products to Tweet about the death of the Apple co-founder.
"Westboro will picket his funeral. He had a huge platform; gave God no glory & taught sin," Margie tweeted Wednesday night on her iPhone.
[...]
The iPhone-wielding Westboro members seemed unable to find any irony in their embrace of the technology of a man they condemn. One church member even suggested that God was using Jobs to help advance the message of Westboro Baptist Church: "God used Steve Jobs to create amazing STUFF for WBC to preach," wrote Shirley Phelps-Roper.

HP, I read your post this morning and all day I have thought about it. It is pure ironic and it brought a smile to my face a couple times while I was working.

omg... that is odder than ANY of the other odd stories! Truth is ALWAYS stranger than fiction! WAAAaaY stranger!
Yeah, I hope that anyone who hasn't seen it will check out The Mothman Prophecies. It's a book and movie. I suppose it's well-known among certain groups, but it's a good movie if you like weird, suspenseful, mysterious stuff! If you are into UFOs, and really like weird stuff, you should definitely read the book, because the movie changed a LOT of the book, which is written as a true account of the reporter's experiences.

Yeah, I'll check that out. From what I read it seems really interesting, and the movie is supposedly one of the scariest ever. But chances are I won't buy into it if it's "spook-story" type stuff.
ZOMBIES!!!!!!
The collapse of a platform during a shoot for a zombie movie in west Toronto has injured 16 people, police say.
Ten of the sixteen were taken to hospital after falling from a platform while they were working on a scene from the film Resident Evil: Retribution
[...]
Emergency workers said their jobs were made more difficult by the fact that the injured were dressed like zombies, which made it hard to determine which injuries were real.
I find that last line hilarious. I can't imagine what was going through the doctors' and patients' minds when they saw 16 limping Zombies come into the hospital.
YETI!!!!!!!
Scientists and yeti enthusiasts believe there may finally be irrefutable evidence that the ape-like creatures roam the vast Siberian tundra, reports the Guardian.
A team of over a dozen experts. from as far afield as Canada and Sweden, have proclaimed themselves 95% certain of the mythical animal's existence after gathering for a day-long conference in the town of Tashtago in the Kemerovo region, some 2,000 miles east of Moscow. In recent years locals there have reported sightings of yetis, also known as the abominable snowman.

Huhhhhh... Does Time magazine do spoof articles? I kept looking at the names of the places and people in the article, and seeing funny things in them! And exactly what does it really mean that they are 95% sure that Yeti exists? huh...

It's real I've actually found the article in a few other reputable places as well. Some think it might be some sort of political stunt, or something.

The California man who lives his life as an "adult baby," complete with adult diapers, bottles, a crib and a mother-figure caregiver, says he has been cleared from suspicion of Social Security fraud and will continue to receive his disability checks.
LOL source
He appeared on National Geographic..... I need to find that video. I only found a brief clip on youtube. Apparently it's a real thing.

Why would someone want to soil their own diapers? Dry nether regions are one of the perks of being post-toddlerhood.

An adult baby, huh? Don't you wish you could turn back the clock sometimes? But I think that is a bit far....
This caught my eye the other day:

I found this one to be an odd story:

What a sweet story! I love the pic of the elk holding the marmot in his (the elk's) mouth!

Woman Dead For Two Days in Public Pool Before Being Found
This happened back in July, but I just found this article and realized this is about 30 miles away from where I live. It was just filled with strange circumstances. Two men were arrested last week for obstruction I think, but that's it for criminal charges so far.
