I just realized that my Pride and Prejudice quiz had a wrong answer. On question 10, the answer is supposed to be plain, but I forgot to click the right bubble... Since I don't think Quizmasters can edit quizzes, is there any way to reject this earlier? That was the only mistake.

Just like teasers, quizzes also stay their time in the queue and return to you after a certain number of quizmasters have reviewed them. As you already know, we cannot make corrections. You should also know we can't push the queue into moving any faster than it does now. Please be patient and you will know the outcome of your submission in due come.

Well, the reason I was asking was because my "The Fray" quiz got sent back on the same day I submitted it, because I forgot to put last names and quotation marks. So I figured it was possible for this quiz, too...I guess not, then?

Initially, Jake was "fast-forwarding" the queue, but as the section is building up, we're letting the queue run its course now. So yes, you've assumed correctly.

Probably to try and build up a good store of quizzes for people to get started with.

Also, you can only spend so much time reviewing in each day, he probably needs a break!

The queue for Movies and Entertainment categories are averaging about 10-15 per day right now.
That is a lot of information to verify, not to mention spelling, grammar, puncuation, etc.

The best thing you can do to get your quiz approved quickly is to thoroughly check it
for errors before submitting, and to add in source links so that we can verify your facts.
This is much easier than having to hunt through all of cyberspace for the answers.

It will still take time of course, but it's much easier on us.

There's a minimum of ten, I've seen quizzes with 15-20, but I don't think I've seen a max yet.

If you have a subject that has that many possible questions you can make it Part 1 & Part 2
that way you'll get credit for two [10+ question] quizzes instead of just one [really big one]!

I think the "also" is a bit confusing. You might try to reword as: "What American Red Dwarf actor has guest starred in an episode of "Black Books"?"

The quizmasters now agree that ending a question with a preposition is acceptable.

Some info getting covered more than once is okay, somewhat boring, but okay.

But if you notice that a question is identical, as in copied verbatim,
from another Braingler's quiz, or from a quiz you took elsewhere then let us know.

I had a quiz recently returned to me with several comments. The first few I understand, but the last one struck me as odd. Perhaps someone would like to explain this to me: How is "homosexual" a derogatory term? It is politically correct. The quiz in question is about San Francisco, a city with a large community of (insert proper term here).

I do not mean to sound argumentative, but I would love to know how I can change this so that my quiz is accepted. It would also be nice know why the term is considered derogatory. Thanks!

I didn't review the quiz, but I would be happy to make suggestions. Since Braingle is a family-oriented site, your example for San Francisco would not be a site-appropriate example in a quiz. A good idea would be to simply find something else of interest about the city in question to replace that part of the quiz. San Francisco is famous for the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Fisherman's Wharf, the Presidio, and the cable cars. Google is a great search engine for finding information.

Have a good evening and good luck in making your corrections,

Myst

Thanks, Myst.
The question actually referred to the majority of SF's population, homosexual being one of the choices, considering the large population. Among other choices were Chinese-American (which wasn't found offensive) and diverse.
I will change the choices for the answer, but I would love to know how the term is considered offensive.

Also, it says to change Governor Schwartsenneger to Arnold Schwartsenneger. Even being from CA, simply seeing the name makes me think of him as an actor, not politician. Is it not clear that he was governor at the time?

I believe the last name was miss-spelled and since you needed to fix that, and since you had used first and last name for the Mayor, it would be consistent to do the same for the Governor (as well as spell his name correctly.)

I think the sensitivity about "mostly homosexual" was that it was presented as a possible answer to what the population of San Francisco is. It seemed to invite problems (and probably comments) that we would prefer to avoid since the site is not about sexual preferences. Wouldn't you agree that this is not what San Francisco or your quiz is all about?

I have noticed that quizzes with minor punctuation errors get rejected and probably count as returned quizzes, thus lowering one's chances of becoming a quizmaster
But at the same time I have seen quizzes on the site having spelling mistakes or even wrong answers. These quizzes probably do not count as returned and do not effect one's chances for quizmaster. I think its unfair. I understand that it may be humanly very tiring for one quizmaster to verify all the facts. So I suggest that at least to be fair, rules of return rate be changed so as to be fair to everyone.

I understand your concern. We try not to miss anything during the review, but that happens sometimes. Sorry. As to changing the rules, that changes it from 'Ask a Quizmaster' to 'Ask Jake'. Only he can make that decision.

The Trivia section is still less then 2 weeks old, and I am still making tweaks and improvements to the system to make it fair for everyone. Thanks for being patient as I make improvements and review all the quizzes.

My other suggestion would be to triple check your quizzes with a friend so you can catch all your own errors before you submit them to us for grading.

-Jake
