I have been diagnosed with the disease since mid of 2007. I was just added another eye drop medication but would love to know other ways to live with this disease. I know regular, strict eye appoinments, and not forgetting my daily drops, but I wonder who else has this disease or know of someone that has it. What are some natural ways to treat it.? My doctor told me Im the youngest case they have seen, Im 31 as of Jan 30th.

Sorry you have to be hit with this so young, autumn! Check out this National Institute of Health link, if you haven't already done so. I see lots of patients with glaucoma, most who have had it for years, and they're doing well. Sounds like you're on the right track, too, following doctor's orders. With something as serious as your eyesight, I wouldn't want to rely on "natural remedies", unless they've been proven and your doctor agrees.

my grandmother did eyedrops every day for like 20 or more years. her vision remained nearly the same w.r.t. peripheral vision. of course, her eyes still got old and she needed bifocals but, that's natural.

Thank you for the repleis and cares. Iam following my Docs orders appt here soon two of them in a wks time. It interfears with my scoll and job but I gotta go. Most places of work and schools dont understand that there a must. I dont fully believe that the Docs have our best interest at hand although I do think they got into the medical field because they are or were passionate aboaut learing and practicing. I dont just take a drug becuase my Doc says it'll work, cure, or help, without checking it myself and asking tons of questions for a clear understanding.

Nah ...autumn...do what the Specialist tells you or suggests...not so sure about General Practitioners [just a doctor]
I had high pressure in one of my eyes [this leads to glaucoma possibly]...i did the drops for several years...now! No drops! Just regular check ups by the ophthalmologist. Do the drops! Be vigilant. It will prevent it from getting worse.
When faced with a medical problem which may lead do some sort of impairment...go with what the docs suggest. If you don't, you may go blind. If you take the risk you may get better. If you do nothing, you may go blind. See the choice?

It is to do with damage to your optic nerve which is at the back of the eye. I think what happens is that there is a blockage in the circulation of fluid so the pressure in the eye builds up. I think it could also be due to poor blood circulation in the eye...but anyway, you start losing your side vision [so you get tunnel vision] and as it gets worse and worse you eventually lose sight. If you have glaucoma in the family you are best to keep having your eyes tested by an eye specialist. Prevention is the key. I don't know if they have a cure. I think once your eye is damaged that's it but they can prevent it from getting worse.
My mother-in-law has glaucoma. My husband is now being treated for high pressure in his eyes using Tenopt drops.

I first heard about this in health class and he didn't really explain it all the way. But I can tell by this forum, it's horrible.

My mom got diagnosed with this a few months ago, but she has just been doing her drops everyday and it's been working. She is going to go back to the eye doctor soon about it becasue she doesn't like the drops that she is using and wants to know if there is anything else she can do.
*big smile on face* What can I do for YOU today? (Am I happy enough now?) |

Yes...apparently if you have blue eyes [not brown] the drops we call Xalathan here in Australia, can cause your eyes to turn brown!!!!
My husband was using these [he has brown eyes already] but it was making his eyes burn and feel gritty. He is on different stuff now and the pressure is going down.
I used to use the same medication as he is now...and the pressure has gone back to normal...I think my problem was early signs of glaucoma...but now I have ceased the drops altogether.
I think it shows if you follow the rules, you may get good results.

Wow!... didnt know this disease was so commonly known on Braingle. I did read where that was a side effect, eyes turning brown along with eyelashes getting longer and maybe a 'lil thicker, burning and tingling. I currently take Xalatan and Alphagan drops twice daily Alpha once daily Xalatan. My pressure doesn't seem to be lower so she added the Alphagan. I have my three appts to see her this month so hopefully by then it'll be down. If only we had Gov't funded healthcare here in the U.S.A, that'll help most of us to not go bankrupt trying to pay for all the services, and surgery's we need and cant afford health insurance. Thankx you guys for sharing, keep it coming
