Can anybody lucid dream? I believe it's when your dream-self knows that you're in a dream and you can manipulate things how you want, control your dreams. Anyone can learn it but it takes a lot of practice. For example, I'm not having much success myself. I just think it's the most amazing thing to be able to manipulate your own reality where no rules apply.

I have been very interested in that since i've read the mentalrobics, which i love and ofter go through. It would be extraordinary to be able to "direct" our dreams, and i can only imagine the boost it would have on creativity.
I have been wondering though - is there any other difference beween lucid dreaming and day dreaming, except lucid dreamind happens douring sleep? I know i often day dream while writing, being able to create different worlds, sceneries and characters for myself, which i can control and "play" with. Lucid dreaming sounds very similar, and the fact that you can create while sleeping is very interesting.

I've had lucid dreams only twice, on accident, and I can only remember what one of them was about. All I remember is, In the dream, I was at a grocery store and then it hit me... I was dreaming!!! So I tried to fly, and I did it! So I started doing some crazy stuff I'd never do in real life, like kissing random guys in the store and flying away. It was FUN.

Almost all of my dreams have been like that since as long as I can remember. I've sometimes wondered if I'd get better sleep if I wasn't directing my dreams.
I also dream in color, which is apparently not the norm, but would seem weird to me if I didn't.

I am a lucid dreamer too.I think probally all of my dreams are like that, but sometimes when you are in a lucid dream it is scary because you know you are dreaming and you want to "Wake up" but you cant.

That's called lucid dreaming? I thought lucid meant like, insane or something...
I'm a "lucid dreamer" I guess. Its always quite fun. And then you know how sometimes your dreams come true? Well if you can control them...

I can do that often, but I never know I am dreaming until mosoh or my brothers wake me up and I am in my bed. But I can control myself and do random things like fly and stuff. (if I am flying adn I don't realize it is a dream, then I don't know what is wrong with me )

I learned how to control my dreams when I was younger because I was having nightmares. My grandmother told me to do something about it-- like change the dream. Ever since, if I have a dream I don't like-- I just change it.
BTW........I too dream in color. I was describing something in a dream once, and I commented on the color, and the person I was talking too looked at me like I was nuts. They told me people can't dream in color. I don't know if that's true or not, because I am sure I dream in color all the time.

Interesting posts! I remember learning to fly in a dream by jumping and just stretching the landing out until I didn't land at all. In later dreams, I applied this flying technique often as I kind of dream remembered what I'd learned in a dream. I've caught myself remembering these experiences almost as vividly as a waking memory and yes, I have tried the stretch jumping method and I didn't get far with it. It sure works in a dream though!
Another odd experience was when a doctor prescribed an anti-depressent called Zyban to help me quit smoking (don't ever smoke kids!). The strange thing is that it made my dreams very ordinary. They were like every day drudgery dreams of arranging paperwork or mowing the lawn. I remembered more of them and they were drab boring dreams. If you are going to dream it ought to at least be exciting! I was glad when I stoped taking that and I was flying in my dreams again!
I think writers often dream up a good story line and use it too. I also have had a few experiences where I solved a work problem dreaming and it turned out to actually be a real solution. I've also woke up mad at someone (my wife usually) who mis-behaved in a dream. I really want to get even over it.

Oh-- I have had that happen too! Where your significant other has done something in a dream and you wake up cranky at them. And of course, if your like me you feel dumb, but you can't help being cranky! LOL

Oopse... I could have worded that better. I know Pop's too nice and Phrebh's too intelligent to smoke. I call my children kids which makes me an old Billy goat I guess. I'm sure smoking has been thoroughly and rightfully trounced in a number of topics on this site. It has been a bad choice for some to deal with stress.
Yes buttons, I figured it must go both ways! I've also dreamed that I had woke from a dream or nightmare and I really hadn't yet. It was kind of like tricking myself. There is also a real sense of relief and even an uplift sometimes when you wake up from a nightmare and think, things may be a little tough but at least it is not as bad as things were in that nightmare.

Does that mean that pop's not intelligent and I'm not nice?

I always dream in color. If it isn't normal, than my dreams fall way outside of the realm of normal, at least more so than I thought before.
I have tried for years and years to master my dreams but have not yet figured out the trick. My dreams tend to take over and lead me.

I made a topic a while back about colored dreams. People said it was impossible, yet they did it, so it was wierd. It was also about dream only lasting a few seconds for the entires night. I don't believe that.

Sometimes when I dream it feels like it goes on forever, like I just lived a completely different life all in the space of one night. When the alarm wakes me up in the morning I tend to feel more exhausted than when I went to bed the night before.

Actualy, that is true. Dreams only occure during REM sleep, and last but a few seconds. We only get the impression that they last longer, perhaps even for hours, but they are very short, usualy not more than seconds.
