Do you have a child, parent, or friend with autism or maybe you have experience in autism. Can you tell me your personal instances or what have you??

Ah, Autism Spectrum Disorder. The illusive disorder thats so common, yet no one knows about. My brother has Autism, and I cant imagine howd my life be if he was "normal". Some of my best friends have Autism, and its not more of a challenge then having normal friends. Theyre people, just like everyone else, have the potential to do great things, they just have a harder time achieving it. They dont necessarily need special treatment, they just need the encouragement and respect youd give anyone else who wants to succeed in life.

yeah, they are very smart too. we had a presentation about autism and every 1 in 150 kids will be born with autism. it is more common then you think. spectrum disorder means the autism ranges from mild to severe, right?

It sure does. And with your statistics, which are true, this means a child with Autism is born every 20 minutes. Autism is more common then childhood diabetes, heart problems, and cancer combined, and yet it gets the least amount of federal grants and funds to support research. Thats why "Autism Speaks" depends so much on outside donations. Im the captain for my team for the Walk For Autism. Its one of those things that you just feel good doing.

Yeah, but a lot of people who are considered autistic today wouldn't have been considered autistic 50 years ago. So a lot of the people in the statistics who have been deemed "autistic" probably really aren't. That type of statistic disgusts me. It's just like the kids who are diagnosed with ADD, or DDHD, or whatever they are calling it now. I knew somebody who was diagnosed with ADD because he didn't pay attention in school. But I knew he could sit in front of the TV for 6 hours and not move. The people who determine autism and ADD tend to exagerate things A LOT.

A good friend entertains you when you go to their house. A best friend will sit around reading while you try to figure out how to pass the time.

My cousin has autism. I don't think that makes him difficult to deal with or anything, it's actually pretty amazing. He's so full of energy and happiness whenever I see him. He isn't "challenged" or anything, it's not like he has a low IQ or is ignorant of anything.

Let go and let pickles. Thy pickles be done. You don't pickle what you've pickled until you pickled it. One pickle at a time.

Well Autism is a disease of the brain it normally develops after a series of seizures but you can be born with it also or be a result of some other tramatic event that effected the brain/part of the brain. These kids..adults are very bright though, lots of people dont know how to communicate with a child that has autism. Some think they're disabled mentaly and that's realy not the case. Its like they recieve so much info in at once. Have you ever seen Rainman the movie, with Dustin Hoffman, he played a role of a n adult with autism. Great movie, emotional too.

Some might be intelligent, but most are not:

A 2001 British study of 26 autistic children found about 30% with intelligence in the normal range (IQ above 70), 50% with mild to moderate retardation, and about 20% with severe to profound retardation (IQ below 35). For ASD other than autism the association is much weaker: the same study reported about 94% of 65 children with PDD-NOS or Asperger's had normal intelligence

Also.... Rain-Man was illustrating an autistic savant which is relatively rare.
