Someone correct me if I am wrong, but to have a personal message you need to be a subscriber, or at least be on Braingle for quite a while.
If you meant that you wanted to change your avatar, find an image you like by searching for something that interests you. For instance, karate, put that word in search and press image and then search. It will give you various different things. When you find something you like you will need to download it either to your pictures of if you have a photobucket account you can right click the image, then click properties. Drag across the hypertext spot ( URL address) - http - when you have it all highlighted, right click on that area and press copy and then ok. And then you can download it to your pictures simply by going to your picture file, right clicking and hitting paste. Then go back to your page you have shown here, hit browse after the avatar line - it will take you to your picture file, pick the file you want, right click it, select and transfer it to the avatar line. Then make sure you hit up date so that should change your avatar.
This may be much more info than you need, if so sorry. But if you need more don't be afraid to ask. There is always someone willing to help.

I guess that you do need to be a subscriber.
One other question that maybe you can answer; How do you add the text underneath the avatar that shows only in forum posts, yours, for example, "Grayma V"
I am guessing that it is also for subscribers only.
