I didn't name Perro. He is actually my dad's old dog. When I first met Perro, she was shaking so badly because Dobermans aren't kid-friendly dogs. After a few bites and growls, Perro and I are best friends. He despises baths and only takes one when I am there. Literally, my dad woke me up in the middle of the night so Perro would take his bath. I even had taught Perro how to play fetch for a while, which is very unusual for Dobermans. After being with me, Perro is now a kid-friendly dog. I am mj1321, the doberman tamer! Perro is a handsome dog. He is all black and has a cute short tail. When he runs, he sort of leaps up. It is so funny! He is pretty old, 13 human years this month. I am going to be so sad when he leaves the world forever.

Perro. Looove that name. xD
Hmm, let's see, Mango's a big fat gray cat who pretty much just lays around all day. I just named him Mango because...I guess it just seemed like a good cat name. :p I got him when he was a kitten, a little stray cat that attacked me in an alley, I know right, instant bond. :p

I've got a rabbit and some baby bunnies. They aren't really my "pets," but they live under the shed in my backyard. They are cute and quite friendly. The "Mommy Bunny" actually let my little brother pet her. She won't let anybody else touch her though.

Fish have such short lives....luckily, people don't normally develop close bonds with fish like they do dogs or cats because of their short life span.

I had a close bond with one of my oldest fish, Sucker. It was so sad to attend his fishy funeral.

Oh gee... has anyone else had a dog or cat who walks real stiffly and seems to have arthritis? My BB hobbles up and down when she walks for the past few months. She walks as little as possible. Usually she's lying on her side.
I mentioned it before, but since I see all these new pet owners I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with walking probs with their friend dogs or cats?
I love it that you all are posting a lot about your pets!!! Please keep it up, I love it!

Hey Shawn -
My masseuse had a dog with bad arthritis - he did a lot of massage on the dog and it really helped. He worked every day just a little but a few times a day, and the dog has improved so so much!!
He didn't just work the affected area though, he worked the whole body and made it a really relaxing enjoyable experience for the animal so that it wouldn't see the massage as being a bad thing - something that would cause pain.
He uses a method called "plunge, drag, release" where you put your fingers into the affected area, drag them along (almost pulling the skin in a way) and then release. Its a bit different to typical massage, but he said it encourages blood circulation which of course stimulates healing...
I'm happy to explain further if you like...

Thanks Beetle! Gosh, I have been massaging my BB! I even think I've noticed some improvement, but it may be wishful-thinking. I think I understand the method you described. I took several courses in massage-therapy way way back when. Thanks for the advice!
Does anyone feel closer to "God" or a spiritual presence, or Love, or whatever, when they look into the eyes of their pet or spend time with their pet?
I sometimes have the most intense feelings when I look into my Little BB's eyes... I just LOVE animals! (even the Humans!) (I know, can you believe it?)

Yeah Shawneeo...I love looking into our doggies eyes.
Sometimes when you are doing something stupid, you look at them and they are giving you this, kind of, LOOK...like "You are HUMAN!!! What are you doing? Don't you KNOW it will be baaaad!!"
I had an occasion recently where I was in a spot of bother at home. I couldn't move out of the situation I was in. All I could do was hold on for all I was worth. Well, Nina the Dalmatian skipped around me...I was crouching...and she was licking my face, dancing about...I was saying "Go get dad...get dad!" And then SHOUTING at FULL VOICE to Mr Snappy just below in the garage...he was in the garage, exercising to LOUD music so he couldn't hear me...I must have been there for 10-15 minutes...shouting yelling between the sound of these loud songs...dog licking face. My both hands holding on.
Then I got the giggles. I was in such an absurd situation. Half the neighbourhood heard the wailings of the weird woman but the person I needed couldn't hear me. So I said to Nina "Go Rusty...go get help...get help Rusty...down below...find dad" to which ofcourse Nina wagged her tail and slurped my face. 'What a lovely game, mummy!' she thought.
Then Mr Snappy emerges from garage...looks up at me and says "Why didn't you call me!!!?"
HAHAHAHA!
Now Nina's nickname is Rusty the rescue dog.

The thing that really just slays me, in a good way, about animals is their utter and total HUMBLENESS. They have no pretensions at all... no "masks", no clothes, they are just THERE. Animals cannot do anything about most of their circumstances, there is no escape for them. They have to live where they live, eat what they can find or are fed, and they don't even get to complain... although, that might be debatable!
Humans, in general, are afraid or shy about LOVE. For whatever reasons, we don't want to love much. I guess we're afraid of being hurt. But animals? They just love you, period. I mean, my BB, she is totally comfortable with coming up to me and rubbing her head all over my shoe! Then she lies down on it and purrs! She doesn't care that it's a shoe, she loves me, and that's the part of me that she can reach at the time, so, she does!
I really think I've learned at least as much about life/love from animals as I have from humans! (and yes, the feel-good lecture is over... for now)
Life... can be so many things... how can anyone ever think they are RIGHT? HAhahahahahahaha!!!!! |

Glad the massage has helped he Shawn - what about fish oil tabs? I've heard they help joints in animals just as much as humans. They are expensive though....
My little kitty went missing on the weekend. What a horrible experience - she's normally in my front yard - at the most she is next door either side, but never more than a house away. When you call her she always comes running.
Mr. Beetle put her outside at 6AM because she was attacking his feet while he was trying to sleep, generally annoying him and wanting to go outside. When I woke up a few hours later he said "hmm, haven't seen her for a while". I thought "oh, she's young, probably stretching her wings and exploring a bit further than she's been before".
2pm comes along with rain (which she hates) and still nothing. We took the dogs for a walk, hoping that if she was in a neighbours yard the dogs might flush her out. Usually when we take the dogs for a walk she walks along with us - she loves coming to the park and climbing the trees (really funny to watch this tiny cat walking with two people and two big dogs!!). Nothing!
I started getting worried - she's 6 months old but is the exact same size as when I first got her (we haven't had to adjust her collar once yet!) - she's tiny and so cute. I thought maybe someone had taken her - mayvbe a child on school holidays.
6pm - still nothing. we drove around the neighbourhood looking for her, and my parents came in their car to look too. I was so grateful to them - they love her as much as we do, and it was so great of them to support us!
10pm and still nothing. I am heartbroken - just dying inside with worry about my baby. She hadn't eaten or drunk anything to my knowledge since the evening before - I was just hoping if someone had her that they were looking after her. I start driving Mr. Beetle crazy, going outside onto the verandah in the middle of a stormy cold winters night calling for my cat.
10:30pm - pacing in the bedroom, I think I hear a jingle of a cat bell. I pul the curtains open to look - I think I see a movement of black in the garden but think its my eyes deceiving me. The sensor light hasn't come on after all. I say to mr. beetle "I know you think I'm mad, but I swear I heard a..." JINGLE!
I ran outside to my little kitty mewing at me! I cried with relief - just so glad to have her back!! She definitely had been held by someone - even though it had been raining and the ground was muddy, she was perfectly dry and her white paws were perfectly clean. She hadn't been fed or given water - starving and dehydrated she was so happy to be home.
I've been letting her out but she's a lot more clingy and stays close! I don't wanty my fears of losing her again result in a lack of quality of life for her - she loves being outside and I just hope this experience has taught her to remain close!

So glad you found your kitten Beetle. It is always so worrisome when they stray off somewhere. Is it possible she might have gotten shut in a building or someones garage? Since she was hungry and thirsty that is what would make me believe maybe she had been trapped or shut in somewhere. Most people will care, or at least give a cat water. Glad you had a bell on her. I still miss my pets. Darned landlord, anyhow.
The sound of the wild, but if there is no one there, does anyone hear their howls? |
