NOt too shabby, snappy!!! Good for you and the sheep, lostfan!!! I think about you, admittedly with envy, at times! I'm trapped in the city, and the only country i have is the parks... although thank God there are some nice ones.
Beetle, I am SO glad you found your baby!!!!! OMG! I know what that's like, and it is really hard. I would just be devastated if my Little BB ever disappeared! As for her going far away, I don't think you'll be hurting her if you limit, if possible, her traveling to your yard for awhile. It sounds like she doesn't want to venture very far anyway. But, this happened with our cats growing up, several times, and they did always come back eventually. We always put a bowl of food outside, and that always worked! But what I was saying is, even if you do think you should limit somewhat her area, at least for awhile, I don't think it will hurt her too much. I've always had indoor cats in the city. Although I always wished they could roam freely, they can't in the city, and they still were always very healthy and happy, as long as they were able to go down the hallway now and then, or up on the roof for a little adventure.
I'll think about the fish oil for BB, Beetle and thanks for the suggestion.

awww! Are you gonna post any pics, or in other words, send me any so I can post them? of Fifi?
I have a 17 year old cat, BB, and I had two cats until about 3 years ago. So, BB had a cat-sibling (not her biological sister) for 14 years, her entire life. When Tiger died, BB was very depressed, and slowly she has kind of come into her own and is now comfortable being the "alpha cat"!
But, I keep wondering if she would maybe be happier if I got another cat... not a kitten, but another cat around 4 or 5 years old. What I wonder about is: Would it make her less lonely when I'm not here, as well as make me feel less guilty about leaving her all alone when I go out... would she enjoy having another cat friend, OR, would she feel once again that she was the beta cat instead of the alpha cat? She has an extremely low-key personality, no agression at all...
Does anyone have any similar experience?

Well, I sent my email so if you need it again, let me know! I'd love to see Fifi, and any of your other animals!
Maybe I can move to NZ and be like a hired-hand on your farm? I can do most things even though my eyesight is extremely limited. I mean, I clean, cook, take care of BB, shop, I do everything I need to do to run an orderly household! And of course I'd do it for free! As long as I had room, board, a small entertainment account, a PC and an iPhone, yearly bonuses, an assistant... I'll add to the list if/when I think of other things...
My Little BB, who's 17 and extremely "fat", although she's more like "huge" instead of simply fat, is definitely showing signs of age and perhaps an early illness. She has little tremors from time to time that she didn't used to have, and she seems to have arthritis in her front legs. I'm taking her to the vet next week just for a check-up. I'm a bit hesitant to bring her to the vet because I expect them to lay a guilt trip on me about how big she is. But, she doesn't actually eat so much. I took care of a cat before that seemed fat, but then we found out he had cancer and what seemed like fat was tumors. He didn't act sick at all, so one never knows. But, hopefully they will NOT lay a trip on me, and even if they do, I have to get her checked-up on for her own good.

I live with two black cats (I mention their color because it's Halloween) and a Bearded Dragon.

My sister had a pet spider when we where kids. She named it Wendy. Until Mom found out. Than Wendy met the vacuum.
I'm on Braingle far too long, I stay on the computer from dusk to dawn. Playing games and chatting with friends, the novelity of it never ends. |

What's a bearded dragon, caberet?
And shawneeo, I know what you mean about cats grieving for sibling pets! I had two cats (Mischief and Millie) for 8 years. They were brother and sister. But in June this year, Millie died (she was poisoned, along with over 10 other cats in the neighbourhood - just happy Mischief didn't get poisoned!) and Mischief was clearly grieving. He would roam around the house, and meowing (he never meowed) for Millie. He would also go out for whole days searching for her. He became really skittish and didn't want to be picked up. He stopped eating as much, which was strange because he used to eat both his AND Millie's food! We had to feed her separately - that's how bad it was! But everything changed. It was really sad. He would sit on the stairs for hours, because Millie usually spent her time upstairs, in my sister's bedroom, while Mischief, either because he was fat and couldn't be bothered going up the stairs , or he just liked downstairs better, stayed in my room, or my twin's room.
But it wasn't for about a month before Mischief returned to normal. But he definitely is back to normal. The thing is, when Millie died, we found her body and took it back home and put it in front of the fire, and waited for however many hours Dad took to get home to dig the burial. In that time, me and my siblings all just spent time with her. We were all so upset, just sitting there and crying. But Mischief popped into the lounge, and we were unsure if we should let him see Millie dead. But we decided it was fine. And he just went up and curled up next to Millie and just slept there until my Dad came home. Then at her funeral in our front yard, Mischief came along too. It was sad, but cute.
Anyway, the point of that story is to show that cats DO grieve for other pets that they're close to, but it's just a matter of time before they get back to normal. We just gave Mischief lots of love, and he came back within a month.

awww... That is such a moving and bitter-sweet story! I almost cried when you related how Mischief would go outside for days searching for Millie... That has to be one of the saddest most touching cat stories I've ever heard. Yes, they DO grieve, and have all the other emotions we experience, and thanks for supporting that idea. People who don't know cats will listen to me tell them how, for example, my Pretty Tiger had this huge emotional reunion with me after I returned from being in the hospital for six weeks... and how Little BB grieved so much when Tiger died, and then they'll say something or give me a look that says: "Well, you're just seeing what you want to see, but whatever... You cat people are crazy and a bit pitiful...". But, THEY are the ones missing out!
So, I have a wonderful announcement and something to share! lostfan got a new puppy, a schnoodle, named Fifi, a short time ago, and I have the honor of posting the first pic on Braingle of Fifi! She really has got to be the sweetest looking doggie I've ever seen!!! No exaggeration! And lostfan's pics of her animals just keep getting better and better! Look how Fifi is looking RIGHT at the camera, and the focus is perfect!

lostfan, how in the world did I get the idea you live in NZ when you live in Ohio? I think it was because of your having wool sheep, which is huge in NZ, and there are some Brainglers from NZ, and some things about your life, like when you've mentioned going to Matins or Evening Choir or some such Mass at your church sounds very Old World... I guess it's harder to imagine your life happening here in the Good Ol' USA than somewhere remote like New Zealand!

Aw, that is such a cute dog. It's ears are cuuute!
New Zealand isn't that remote. I love New Zealand, personally. It's really nice, and green, and it isn't over-populated! Plus, our country isn't in any turmoil like other countries are. So it's pretty safe too. You should all come to NZ for a holiday sometime.

My wonderful poor Little BB has got so big and overweight, it's just so troubling! I'm going to take her to the vet soon, but from previous experience I'm expecting to be "shamed" because of her size. She doesn't eat nearly enough to cause her to be as large as she is. She is shockingly big these days, and her walking has become limited because it seems her back and front legs can't hold her weight for very far or long. She's still the sweetest, most loving cat I've ever known! She sometimes seems totally normal, except that she's never been so big, and sometimes she seems ill. I've been putting off taking her to the vet, but I've thought about it enough and I know I have to do it, so I'll be doing it within... I'll make the appt. next week.
There is also another cat that might need a home, but the friend of mine who knows about it hasn't told me yet that he does need one. He's a house cat, several years old, orange and white, and his human died, and the relatives apparently don't want to keep him, so he's been shifted from home to home. I hope they get the message that I will take him, and don't send him to a shelter. People who don't care for cats... you never know what they may do.

Well, thanks for asking! I took Little BB to the vet, finally, on last Tuesday. I expected them to say she had like, tumors and cancer and and and... but she was way healthier than I thought! And, they said they weren't so worried about her weight, because usually cats as old, 18 years, human years, as her are too thin. So, they also took blood and all her results were healthy, except for one, which we are going to talk about on Tues. I was just overjoyed afterward because I was sure this was the end. She still at the "end", but I have some time left with her, hooray!

We have a lot of animals at my house, But my baby is my devil kitty Jasmine. She was abandoned at my roommates house when she went home for vacation and brought 4 kittens back with her. I personally was a dog person, but fell in love with one little flea ball. I was eating a big plate of cheesy mashed potatoes when she climbed the couch and jumped on my plate. At first i was mad, but have you ever seen a kitten covered in mashed potatoes?? Its the cutest thing ever. I decided to keep her, but should have known that she would be trouble. The first year and a half was terrible, but shes calmed down now and is a real sweet heart. Before that she cost me over $300 dollars in damaged items and what was supposed an $50 fix bill turned into a
$200 dollar bill. But i would do it all over again because shes purrrfect now.
