Grayma, I love your stories. Keep 'em coming.

We don't even do presents with one side of the family anymore. I think this has just helped the Christmas we have. No pressure, just each other. That's why I love Thanksgiving so much (even though I did kinda skip it a little bit...).

But I do love to give presents. I love the looks on my siblings' faces when they open a gift that they will really use and enjoy. I usually start shopping in August!

Last year, the library had this book sale. Some of the books were in great condition, so yeah, I used some of them as gifts. So did my brother. On Christmas Day, we both found we had gotten each other the same book! We shared a look and started laughing hysterically. That laugh was better than any gift we could have given each other.

Does anyone have a favourite Christmas song? Somehow, my go-to is "Let It Snow," the playful, cheerful song that just reminds me of not only Christmas, but winter in general. It makes winter sound nice for a change... it just cheers me up!

I know it's impossible to pick, but you've got to have one you never get tired of hearing...

I love "Santa Baby" or at least I think that's what it is called.

My favorite had always been O Holy Night because as a fifth grader our school put on a show for our parents, that was recorded by the local radio station for replaying on Sunday. The entire grade school sang most of it, but when it came to "Fall On Your Knees" we had a first grade boy who sang the solo. First time I remember getting goosebumps from someone singing.

I have also this year fallen in love with Joseph's Song. Last year just before Christmas my Nicole was very pregnant and sang a solo at Christmas Eve service at church. I have been trying to find the exact name of it -Babe Will Make a Difference I thought was the name, but I can't find the one I know-will have to ask Nicole.

I love singing the "12 days of Christmas" and getting 9/12 days wrong. That always gets me in the Christmas spirit and it helps me know Christmas is approaching.

I'm double posting because Christmas is 2 weeks away (about).

We have to "re-hype" the forum with the Christmas spirit, since Ching started it like a month early

Let the Countdown begin!

Oh no! Have I started a trend of skipping holidays? Don't forget New Years'!

Anyway... we were talking about Christmas... I'm preparing a TON of Christmas music right now for our church's Christmas program... I have a week left now and I haven't really even *started* on my arrangements. I'd better get myself in gear.

Is there anything that you do EVERY year? A true tradition? On my dad's side of the family, we always have a white elephant gift exchange... that's probably by far the most exciting time of the holiday. And we all open our gifts one at a time. If you know how big a family I have, you know that can take a looooong time. And of course, my grandfather always reads Luke 2 right after breakfast, just before we start to open anything. I always hope that one of these years, the little ones will grasp the significance of this...

Yesterday night, I was at school, in the band room, playing Christmas carols with my friends, listening to other groups play Christmas carols, hugging people, eating cookies, and drinking hot chocolate. That's all it takes. The last time I felt as warm and fuzzy and happy as yesterday was... quite awhile ago, actually!

Christmas doesn't make me happy; the days before Christmas make me happy.

(We had a poinsettia fundraiser a few weeks earlier, and the poinsettia arrived yesterday. People were coming by to pick them up, and we were providing background music for them.)

Not meaning this to be a downer about Christmas, just a very very big warning about Poinsettias. My mom died in early December and there were a lot of plants at her funeral. Of course Dad had the floral arrangements sent out to different places, but he want me to have all the plants. Mom and I both seemed to have green thumbs. Anyhow I wound up hauling 3 "settia" plants, plus 8 other plants home, 300 miles in the winter. And I did get home with all of them and my husband, son and 11 month old daughter.

We got everything unpacked and the flowers and plants actually took the ride fairly well. About two weeks later, of course my daughter had been walking since she was 8 months old. I was exceptionally PG with my youngest. I tried to keep my floors clear and clean, but I saw my daughter with something in her mouth that she had picked up off the floor. All mothers know how quick the little sweeties can be and how stubborn they can be if you are trying to get something out of their mouths. Anyhow I found she had a fallen blossom petal off the poinsettia. That evening she became very ill with projectile vomiting and crying, etc. We took her to ER and after many questions I remembered her having mouthed that poinsettia leaf, or blossom part, I never really determined which it was. Immediately they started treating her for poisoning.

Big, Big Warning for Parents and Grandparents with little ones who believe everything is for their mouths. The plants maybe beautiful, but not as beautiful as that precious child. Even if you place them up high so the child cannot grab into the plant, you have to be extremely cautious of fallen parts.

You asked about favorite songs before and I told you the one that impressed me the most, but I am also very partial to this one. I'm sure you can figure it out, but some of you may not know it. Talk it out!

Grayma, I, for one, happen to love that song. It puts me in a fun, cheerful, warm-welcoming mood.

And that's what I love about Christmas. There's something in the air that says "good cheer." Or maybe that's just the smell of gingerbread...

Actually, they are all being given away as gifts....my friend has a funstion on and these cellophane wrapped gingerbread houses will be used as place settings - they will all have a name card on them! Phew! I have just laid the turf on each of the cake trays...I'll take a photo when they are done...later today...

If I did the math correctly, this is the first day of Christmas.

So, if I had a partridge in a pear tree, I'd post it. But I don't, so you're just going to have imagine one for now.

Edit: Here you go, ka-ching!

i like when radio stations start playing Christmas music

I am still wondering why they make flavored shampoo. I've tasted them all and they make my mouth all bubbly.
