I think Dolly Parton's version of that song was the best.....

Whitney had talent. I don't even think she was at the pinnacle of her career. She had years left in her yet.
But drugs are bad.
I don't care how 'safe' someone says they are. These same people have NO IDEA about the danger of drugs.
When a person is cool headed and rational, they may decide something is OK.
However, when you are off your face, with no-one rational around you, you do not know what you are doing. You don't consider consequences. There is the danger. They take one tablet, then two...then they can't remember so they have another one which they think is their first...then they get fuzzy about stuff...and it just spirals down and out of control.

It is such a shame she went this way. Such a talent. So much potential.
Hopefully some of the younger folk may learn from this.

I agree about that, snappy! And, so many young people with talent have died of drug overdoses lately! It's always happened, especially since the mid 1900s, but lately it seems to be happening at at alarming rate!

As for the elephant story: I liked the story and was glad to read it. My extremely humble opinion, lol, is (not that anyone asked, but my humility requires it) that one should simply post a great story like that and allow that people will have different interpretations, AND, that what people post isn't necessarily everything they thought or felt. Yes, I very much got from the story that we hold outselves back because of our early childhood conditioning. But I also don't believe that we are the most important species. I don't believe that animals (and don't forget, we ARE animals, no ifs ands or buts about it), are MORE important than human animals. I believe that we are equal. Why? Because WE ARE ALL HERE. Why would all the other animals that exist be here if they were so unimportant? It just doesn't make sense.

But I suppose we shouldn't debate that here. I can't help but add that: by the way, animals (non-human), all follow a totally ecological way of life that does not damage the balance or the planet, EXCEPT for the human animal.

Lastly, I would bet money that IO was totally aware of ALL the various meanings of the story.

Yes shawneeo, that made me think.

What we call the 'animal kingdom' has really got it worked out well.
Survival of the fittest. That is what happens in the animal kingdom.

We humans interfere with the natural process of life thus UNBALANCE the natural way of the world. Humans interfere in the normal ways of nature.

We feed people who would otherwise die. We keep people alive who would otherwise die.
We bring babaies into the world who would not be brough in under normal conditions.
We keep young people alive, middle aged people alive.
Under all Mother Nature circumstances, none of this would happen.
That is what mucks up people's thoughts - we think HUMANS run everything. We play God too much.
We think we are in charge when indeed we are not.

Just my opinion. You don't have to agree.

Snappy, I don't totally disagree with your last comment (to a point), and your last comment made me think that if you see a person in need, you would rather turn away then help... because you think they should be eliminated. This forum is definately for discussion, not debate, so I will not debate it. I say this... but sort of share your thoughts, in some regards.

As I drive off the freeway each day, I am enlightened by the person on the side of the road (person seems to change about every two weeks) with their sign about being unemployed and help me. I look at them, and see their bottle glass bottle of water and figure that is their first problem. I'm okay with Costco brand water.... you can panhandle someone else.

Do I believe there are some needy individuals out there just trying to get enough to change their lives.. yes! Can I recognize them? Not really... but don't stand on the same corner for a couple weeks... because frankly, I don't think you can help yourself if you aren't out there trying to find something better than you will get at the offramp of a freeway.

On one street, the "panhandler" seems to be there everyday. However, he tries to help you, to help himself. He only has one arm... but with the other, he is willing to wash your windshield while you wait for the light to change. Do I support him? Why not? He is trying to give me something for the buck... not just a cardboard sign that says help me!

Point is, there are people who need the help of those of us who are still working. A little help is okay, in my opinion, as long as they are willing to do SOMETHING for their free ride!

This is a family room. I always have converastions such as this with my family. Often you lot from Braingle are quoted and your opinions aired around my dining table!!!!

I think my point was more that we can't really interfere too much with Mother Nature. Not to say we can't help her along, though.

Going back to the elephant story. Just as much as we might think keeping the baby elephant tied up is cruel, maybe it ensures the baby elephant stays wher it should and wouldn't be killed by poachers or tusk hunters!!!

So when your parents tell you not to go out, stay here, they are protecting you, not stifling you.

You can look at things from amny different angles.

PS And when I come across someone who is homeless or struggling, what is wrong with buying them a donut or a coffee [or both!]

That is my point of view. That's all. Rantings of a stray cat!

I have been thinking about this for a while. I just can't seem to 'get it'.
Last night a girl was attacked in our town. She was in her ground floor unit and some SCUM jumped the fence, went into her house and set her alight!
If it wasn't for her quick thinking neighbour jumping in and throwing her into a cold shower, I don't know what would have happened to her.
She has 60% burns to her upper body and torso. She is 25 and was a gorgeous looking young lady. She is currently in an induced coma.
What sort of 'person' does this to another human being???!!!

I just can't begin to imagine how she feels and how her family feel. The family is too distraught to speak. I mean, you'd be feeling good about your family, as a parent, when your girl moves out of home, has a good job, looks like she has life all together... and then this!

Their life would just ... and the young lady...
and what is REALLY much worse is that if they do catch this little * rse hole scum bucket, he will probably serve a few years in jail and that is it. I hope if he goes to jail, he gets done over. B*astard.

Maybe I should have posted this in a RANT forum.

She was just attacked out of the blue? Is there an article on this story?

I feel the same way... I read your post snappy, and that's all I needed. Recently, I'm not sure where, but many girls took on one other girl, beat her and stun-gunned her, and then they POSTED IT ON FB!

Of course the girls are now being arrested, thank the police, but... how can a bunch of girl be so cruel as to first of all jump one girl by herself, stun-gun her, and then be so unbelievably ignorant as to post it on FB!? I mean, I'm glad they did, but why did they? Are they living in a completely different reality?

And there have been so many extremely cruel attacks on people lately, all by teens/early twenties. A middle-aged man was attacked on the street, out of the blue, by two young guys, and hurt very very badly. It was caught on a surveillance cam and they've been caught. All they took was his cellphone. And that's only ONE of many, just in this area, in the last several weeks!

I know we always think crime and violence are getting worse, kids are getting worse... but, maybe they ARE! And you young people here should know that I'm not including you in this. You guys are doing better things with your time, like being on Braingle!

Thinking about all our New Zealand friends at the time of the first anniversary of the Christchurch earthquake.
In your reflection, may you find solace and peace to continue rebuilding your lives.

Good night all my braingle friends. I am going to go sit on my bed, wrap the covers around me and curl up with a good book.

But I will be back on tomorrow

Sleep good

I'm on Braingle far too long, I stay on the computer from dusk to dawn. Playing games and chatting with friends, the novelity of it never ends.

I love the signature above! That's how many on here used to be!

I have congested sinuses and a fever... wahhhhh! I've had a low fever for a few days, on and off, but the congestion just started. If it goes as usual, it will move into my lungs, make me very miserable, and eventually it will leave. I'll go to doc if it gets beyond a certain point, because if it's Bronchitis, which I've had many times, antibiotics can help.

I hope all y'all are healthy, happy, and safe! I almost never get sick... not in the last few years at least! I hate it!

don't blow your nose too hard, it traps the infection higher in the sinuses.
use bengay or similar odiferous ointment to soothe the cough and loosen the congestion in sinus and bronchai
drink lots of hot liquids
good thoughts your way, shawn

Thanks so much, IO, for the advice and good thoughts!

I've been drinking lots of fluids and hot liquids more than usual, besides coffee, which I am not drinking much of now.

Did anyone hear about the "conversion hysteria" in west NY state? I posted about it in Current Events if you wanna see the article. I didn't think I should start that topic in here, but in case some of you don't know, look at the link and tell us what you think. It's still active, and still a mystery... It was in the news for like half a second, but you know how that goes. Very very perplexing.
