Here it is St Patrick's day, and it's time for me to pass on the luck of the Irish.
Hrsemn4 is up next for your interviewing pleasure, so ask away!

Guidelines for interviewing:

Only five questions per post - and you aren't able to ask more questions until your five have been answered. This is to avoid huge lists of questions being put to the interviewee making answering them a daunting task. It should also improve the quality of the questions and the answers.

Hey Hrsemn!!!

1. Do you still play Boss games?

2. How about Werewolf?

3. Did you know I used to admire your skills in those games? (past tense only because I haven't been around in a while)

4. In all your years on Braingle, who is now gone that you miss the most?

5. Where did your user name come from?

1. What is your opinion on cheese?
I am in favor of it. I add cheese to MANY foods I eat. Though I do not branch out into more "exotic" cheeses; I stick pretty close to the norms.

2. How would you describe your appearance?
Depends on what you want to know. I think I'm pretty normal looking. I'm about average height, a little heavy, maybe. I'm not fantastically handsome, but I think I have kind eyes and a good smile.

3. What is your favorite thing to do on Braingle?
I've been a QM for a while now and I have really grown to enjoy reviewing quizzes. I like being able to help the authors shape the quiz into something they are really proud of.

4. Do you have any kids? If so, what are they like?
I have a 9 month old son. He's my first and he's a hoot. He was pretty boring at first, as I understand many babies are. Now he definitely has his own personality. I'm blessed that he is, for the most part, a VERY happy little boy.

5. How do you feel about being interviewed?
Ha ha...a little shocked, like "who am I to be interviewed?" I'm very honored to think that users on Braingle would want to know more about me. I've been passionate about this site for many years and have been pleased to be able to help it from time to time.

1 & 2. I've not played any social games for some time now. I cut back my time on Braingle and focus most of my attention on my position as a QM.

3. Thank you! Very kind of you to say. I think being an actor really helped, even though it's only text. I always tried to get ahead of the other players' logic trains and derail them with false, but realistic sounding alternatives.

4. I think I just miss the overall social aspect I used to have here. I'm sure it still exists, but my time is so severely truncated these days. Who knows what the future will bring though?

5. Ha ha ha, this is a good one. Basically, it is an approximation of "Horseman4", which is a reference to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. This bears further explanation. I enjoy Marvel Comics, my favorite character is Angel/Archangel. When Angel was turned from Angel into Archangel by the villain Apocalypse, he was briefly made into the "Fourth Horseman of Apocalypse" or "Death". Add to all that a 14 year old (when I originally came up with the name for another site) with a taste for the dramatic and there you have it!

1) Currently, it's "The Walking Dead". I cannot recommend this show enough. It's not about zombies; it's about people. The zombies are actually pretty incidental. The human/human interactions are fraught with far more danger. Brilliant show. I also regularly watch "Once Upon a Time" and "Glee"; "Once" is a very well done show, while "Glee" is pretty much a guilty pleasure, I'm aware of how badly "Glee" is written, yet still tune in. One of my ALL TIME faves is "House", I miss that show SOOOO much.

2) Xavier - because their school has mutants. Seriously, I have nothing invested in the NCAA.

3) That's tough to say, it's not as much the category as the passion of the author. I like movies, but I've seen some very well done quizzes in many categories. I enjoy it when an author is passionate about their topic and really interested in sharing that passion with the quiz takers.

4) My "Figures of Speech" quizzes in Linguistics seem to be a crowd favorite and they are a lot of fun to research and write. I also enjoyed writing my series of three quizzes about "The Princess Bride"; it was fun being able to subtly ratchet up the difficulty and point out some interesting details of the film. Overall, I'm very passionate about Movies, but when I find an interesting topic, it can really draw me in. I hope that comes through in my quizzes.

5) I feel like I'm a LOUSY cook, so it'd be a challenge. However, I can put together a pretty decent Asian dinner. I'd make a stir fry dish I like called "Thai Peanut Chicken" over jasmine rice, some homemade egg drop soup, some dumplings, and either spring rolls or egg rolls.

I will have to look up your quizzes. I don't know if I've taken them, but then, I don't spend much time in the quiz section of Braingle.

1) Ok, so you're not a cook. What would be your responsibility when you have people over then?

2) Speaking of responsibilities, out of all the responsibilities you have at home, which do you prefer?

3) Do you have any pets?

4) What was your favorite math class?

5) What is your favorite movie?

1) Well, in my house, whoever doesn't cook does the clean up. Really hate that, but it's the nature of the beast. I would also probably keep the conversation going. I can be pretty social in the right situation.

2) I've grown to enjoy grocery shopping. It gives me some time to be "by myself", plus I like to look for new foods to try.

3) Yes, my wife and I have a guinea pig. It's mostly hers, but I help out with it a bit. I've grown to like the little thing...lol. Someday I'd like to get a hedgehog or a couple of Sugar Gliders.

4) I enjoyed geometry and statistics and really excelled at both. I also took calculus and HATED it (really stunk at it too), but that may have been partially due to the teacher.

5) All time favorite movie is "The Matrix"; it works on so many levels. It can be a quick escapist action movie, but those with the inclination can delve deeper into the symbolism, wordplay, and references and really get a lot out of it. For a time after the first move was released, I was very active in a chat room dealing with "Matrix" philosophy. Some of my other faves are: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Star Wars, Labyrinth, Willow, The Princess Bride, and The NeverEnding Story.

1) Where do you think everyone on Braingle went in the past 3 years since I was last here? (That's a rhetorical question, you don't need to answer it)

2) What is your favorite foreign language to hear?

3) Do you speak any foreign languages?

4) What is your opinion on cell phones?

5) Do you ever play checkers on Braingle?

1) I think some people just got bored and moved on. Some may have had some difficulty with other users in positions of authority. Some others may have just gotten frustrated with not getting their way. I don't really concern myself with it too much. If they were unhappy, I would rather they moved on than to continue coming here and frustrate themselves. I wish them all well.

2) Tough choice; there are many beautiful ones. I think Russian is particularly nice to hear in speech and Arabic is especially beautiful to hear in song. I also like Gaelic and Old English. Also, while not foreign languages, I like listening to the accents of the Irish, Scottish, and Australian.

3) I took Spanish in High School, and I can kind of muddle through for the most part. My knowledge in Spanish helps me understand a little Italian. I also took Old English in College, but sadly, much of that knowledge has faded. I need to re-read my textbooks, it's quite a lovely language.

4) Well, I just recently upgraded to my first Smart Phone, so I may still be in the throes of infatuation with it. I think, at their base, they are an invaluable means of security and communication. That being said, as with most technology, there is the penchant for over-dependence and abuse. We should not gain cross country connection at the expense of losing connection with those in our very households. I think it wise for everyone to take some time (each day, if possible) to cut off all technology and fully engage with their friends and family.

5) I used to. If you browse my awards, you will see I was fortunate enough to attain sufficient points for the Checkers Award.

1) I was lucky enough to get a chance to travel to the south pacific (Australia and New Zealand) during high school as a "student ambassador". Easily one of the greatest trips I've ever taken; it was like coming home.

2) It wasn't MY work, but as an early teen, I accompanied my mother on a business trip to San Antonio, TX. I LOVED that city. Thankfully, the trip allowed plenty of free time to do touristy stuff between business obligations.

3) I'd love to get back to Australia and New Zealand, but I'd also like to go to Greece and Israel.

4) I love driving my Mustang convertible with the top down on a sunny day, radio blasting!

5) My dad was a very avid camper, I never felt the same. So, the few times we went camping, I was just anxious to get back home.

1) Sadly, no, though I sing a bit. I've tried to learn guitar and piano, but I can't seem to make good progress.
2) Love theatre! My BA is in theatre. I don't get to go (or perform) as often as I'd like though.
3) Yea, I like musical theatre, more to attend than perform. The several musicals I've been in are just SO MUCH WORK for the final product.
4) I've been in lots of shows. Some of my favorites are: Threepenny Opera, Neil Simon's "Rumors", "Wait Until Dark", "MacBeth", and "The Actor's Nightmare"
5) Never did very well in sports, though I was on my high school's ultimate frisbee team.

1. Any random/fun experiences you've had as a QM?
2. When you review quizzes, do you sometimes wonder or guess who the author of a quiz is?
3. If so, have you ever been surprised that the author of a quiz was not who you thought? (No need to reveal the specifics if you don't want to.)
4. Do you know that you're awesome?
5. When did you start doing HITs?

1) I've had occasional quizzes come through that the author was clearly passionate about. In the few cases where I was also knowledgeable of the subject, I had a lot of fun helping the author to really make their quiz the best it can be.

2) Not usually. After a while, certain authors tend to develop their own "voice" within their quizzes, so it's not difficult to assign certain quizzes to certain authors. However, I never let the author's identity affect how I review their quiz.

3) No, because I really don't give it much thought. We are getting a lot of first time authors right now and they are all getting used to Braingle's QMG format. I'm also not terribly active on the "social" side of Braingle, so I don't know many users on a deeper level. I love to see some of the same authors pop up over and over, but I'm also enjoying working with brand new authors who are bringing new subjects and ideas to the trivia section.

4) That's very kind of you to say. I try to be an easy going guy. I've only "clashed" with a few other users on Braingle, but I don't let that spoil my time here or dominate my thoughts. Life's too short for petty bickering. All I know is I do what my heart tells me is right and I always try and do the very best job I can. If someone still manages to find conflict with me after that, there's nothing I was gonna be able to do to prevent it in the first place. If I am "awesome", it's only because I stick to those principles and try to give everyone else the same treatment. Thanks again!

5) I started doing HITs the very day they were introduced. At the time I was in a job that allowed me lots of free time between tasks, so I was very active on Braingle. I also saw the HITs as a good opportunity to positively benefit the Braingle community, much like being a QM.

We are rapidly closing in on the same sort of time frame as the previous interview, so I'm wondering what the standard practice is here.

I'm so thankful for the questions thus far, but it's obvious the traffic is pretty light here, so perhaps it's time to move on and let someone else have their turn.

We're fortunate here in that neither of those users asking questions, Mocha and JQP, have been interviewed as yet and would both make excellent subjects...

I don't know the answer to that. Maybe decide who you want to interview next, talk to them to make suer they are ok with it, and create the new interview thread with the original post at the top, adding your name to the bottom of the list?

Speaking of that list, I wish we could go back and see those previous interviews! Some that were held while I was gone I would love to have read.
