I would like to introduce to you all one of my favorite nemesis' on Braingle! Ferocious on the checkerboard, it is the one and only dfamina!

Welcome, dfamina! Good luck and have fun!

Guidelines for interviewing:

Only five questions per post - and you aren't able to ask more questions until your five have been answered. This is to avoid huge lists of questions being put to the interviewee making answering them a daunting task. It should also improve the quality of the questions and the answers.

I'll go ahead and take the first swing:

1) How does it feel being interviewed?

2) Do you have any apprehensions?

3) Did you have any aspirations of being interviewed?

4) Have you ever asked questions in an interview before?

5) Why did you not ask me any questions in my interview? ;)

Interview #100, is it? I'd better make this one count.

I'll go ahead and take the first swing:

1) How does it feel being interviewed?
Well mocha, I must say that it's an honor to be in the hot seat and to know that someone out there wants to know more about me, even if you happen to be the only one.

2) Do you have any apprehensions?
I've always been reserved, albeit less so these days, so any sort of spotlight is a little nerve-wracking.

3) Did you have any aspirations of being interviewed?
Absolutely. When these interviews first began, I was excited at the prospect of having a bunch of people I barely knew try to learn more about me. (No sarcasm.) I know that that conflicts somewhat with my answer to #2, but I suppose everyone wants their 15 minutes.

4) Have you ever asked questions in an interview before?
The only one that I specifically remember participating in was Gizzer's. Beyond that, I think I gave up once I realized that the next interviewee was chosen by the current one.

5) Why did you not ask me any questions in my interview? ;)
Because after having known you for 5 years, I couldn't think of anything I hadn't already asked you about.

a) What is the question you most dread being asked?
A trap so obviously set, you almost have to walk into it. Hands down, "What are your weaknesses?" I particularly hate that question during a job interview.

b) What significance do you think there is in being Interviewee #100?
The fact that poor #101 has to follow the show that I'm going to put on. Also, considering that it's taken approximately 9-10 years to get from 1 to 100, it follows that Jake will not be around to run this website (nor we to enjoy it) when it would've gotten to 1,000. Which means that I brought us into the triple digits, where it will stay until the last interviewee finishes and has no one left to whom to pass the torch. (I'm not nearly so egotistical as to claim that this has significance; I just thought it would be a fun point to make.)

c) Who is your favourite fictional character and why?
Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander. He's a renowned wizard from the Sword of Truth series, my absolute favorite books. First of all, regarding fantasy, there's nothing cooler than magic. Second, he's both respected and feared for his power, while at the same time loved and trusted for his wisdom in using it. And like any good wizard, he's old, but not frail. Going into his mannerisms would make this post unbearably long, so I'll spare you that. If you want to know more about him, simply look him up. Or even read the books.

d) Are rules meant to be followed or broken?
Knowing you, you're not expecting my answer to fall on any particular side. Enter: The Grey Area. Obviously, the maker of the rules intend for them to be followed. Some, right to the letter. I, however, believe strongly in the expression "to each his own". Rules tend to spur people into doing things they wouldn't otherwise have done. Some folks, sad to say, cannot think for themselves, and thus rely on rules to dictate their every move. And we all know that person who likes to remind you of what you shouldn't be doing. Others feel the need to break rules, precisely because they ARE the rules. I'm one who will bend or even break a rule in the name of progress, but not to be willfully belligerent. Specific examples would include military flashbacks, probably best reserved for another time.

e) Do you take stairs one or two at a time?
If I'm not carrying anything, I all but fly down them. There's no philosophy here; I simply hate moving slowly.

Hurry up and answer these so I can come up with the next set.

1) How did you get so good at checkers?
It started out with a lot of lost games, until I learned what not to do. I learned how better players than I would react to my mistakes, and remembered it for the next time someone made that very blunder against me. It started out with that, then over the years, evolved into being able to see several moves ahead, just like chess. However, if you were looking for a short answer, I'll simply say this: Because I'm awesome.

2) How can I get so good at checkers?
Be awesome.

3) What is the answer to the question you answered a) above with?
Being asked questions I can't answer. But more than that, it's depending on other people. I absolutely cannot stand the thought of being at anyone's mercy, to any degree. Before I had a car, I would walk in any weather to and from work before I'd ask for a ride. I distrust people to a fault, and assume that everyone will hold over my head any favor they do for me. So, I learned to do for myself.

4) What three words most accurately describe yourself?
Independent, Reliable, Quiet

5) What three words least accurately describe yourself?
(Trying to avoid simply listing the opposite of #4's answers) Optimistic (That's not to say that I'm a pessimist, but I don't believe that "everything will be alright"), Tolerant (I have patience in spades, but tolerance is a different matter), Dishonest

1) How did you learn about Braingle?
It was pretty random. It was near the end of a day in high school, about ten years ago, and a friend of mine had Googled brain teasers. I came here, gravitated toward Food Fight, and there you have it. I've been here ever since.

2) Do you believe in second chances?
Absolutely, unless you're testing the length of a new bungee cord.

3) Name three things you would like to re-do.
1. High school. I wish I'd been more outgoing.
2. The military. But that's more of a "If I knew then what I know now..." They didn't tell me back then that you could secure a specific job before you went in. Had I known, I could've gotten into something I truly loved, and I'd probably still be there now.
3. I don't know that I have a number 3. Everything has turned out pretty well in the end, even if it wasn't that way to begin with. But for the sake of the interview, I picked two.

4) Favorite color?
Green.

5) I just felt like having a number five, deal with it.
The Pythagorean Theorem and a box of donuts.

f) Inside or outside?
At the end of the day, I'm an inside cat. Unless I'm vacationing at or near the beach. It may sound cliché, but nothing beats that for me.

g) What is your favourite sport?
I never really got all that into sports, whether it be watching or playing them. Despite being tall, I'm no good at basketball. I'm a pretty healthy weight, but I'm not into football. I'm pretty good at baseball, but I think I'll have to go with bowling, if you consider that a sport. (Some may not.) Or extreme chess, which I will some day invent.

h) What is your least favourite sport?
That would have to be golf. That one, I simply cannot get into.

i) Tell me about the first time you went camping. (Technically not a question - I know.)
I tried out a youth group many years back, and we all went on a trip to King's Island in Ohio (an amusement park). We camped out at the grounds near the park. It was October, cold, and rainy. The tents were large enough that they held 4-5 people, and the other four guys in my tent were huddled together for warmth. During the night, before the rain came (before we knew it was coming at all), we thought it would be a swell idea to toss sardines in front of the girls' tents. Then the water came. Have you ever smelled a wet sardine? I don't recommend it. The rain was light enough that it didn't wash away the scent, so the entire camp had a rude awakening. I'm wondering now if those sardines had expired...

j) Which is your element of choice: earth, wind, water, or fire?
After being stationed in Mountain Home, Idaho for a while, I have a healthy respect for wind. (The wind hardly ever stops, and the terrain is pretty flat, so there's nothing to stand in its way.)

k) Is there anybody you would take a bullet for?
Definitely anyone in my family. Barring that, I wish you the best of luck.

l) Who do you most/least respect in the world?
I hate to do this, but my answer to this one is non-specific, as it refers to a group of people. I respect those who aren't afraid to see the truth, and to see things for what they really are. It's one thing to have wishes, but it's quite another to have delusions of grandeur.

I respect not at all those who can fend for themselves but don't, and rely on everyone else to do for them. THAT is weakness.

m) (No HHGTTG Please) What is the meaning of life to you?
I agree, this "42" nonsense has got to go. I don't suppose life has any singular or clearly-defined meaning for me. Just live yours for yourself, because your life belongs only to you.

n) If you are so untrusting, do you use banks/pay taxes etc.?
I'm not so untrusting as to be paranoid of everyone. I use banks, I do my taxes online, and my bills are auto-paid via their respective websites. In a one-on-one setting, however, I tend to err on the side of caution.

o) What is your favourite fruit?
Kiwi. And yes, I eat the whole thing, except for the ends.

1) Type of music you listen to and favorite song?
I can't pick any one favorite song, but I'm a rock kind of guy. I can at least pick a favorite band, and that would have to be System of a Down. Their style is just so different from any other.

2) What T.V shows are you currently watching?
Two and a Half Men. (Charlie Sheen era) I don't care at all for the new version of that show with Ashton Kutcher. I have no gripe with him, but Charlie was meant for that part.

3) Favorite T.V show?
Lately, the Big Bang Theory.

4) Favorite movie?
An oldie, The Sandlot. Liked it ever since I was a kid.

5) Any actors/actresses you really like? (I figured it's hard to pick a favorite)
I'd have to go with Jim Carrey as my favorite actor. Actress? Don't have a favorite.

Hey again! Looks like you've got some attention in here.

1) Looking at the list of people who have been interviewed, what percent of them do you know or remember seeing around the site?

2) I was looking at this recently and found myself reminiscing. I wonder, what addition to braingle was your favorite? Why?

3) Along the same lines, what addition to braingle made the biggest change to the website?

4) At one point in your Braingle life did you change from just playing games to being a member of the community?

5) Who was the first person on Braingle you really got to know? Where did you meet them?

1) Looking at the list of people who have been interviewed, what percent of them do you know or remember seeing around the site?
After taking an actual count, around 70%. I counted 30 that I either have only seen once or twice, or have not seen at all. Some I knew, some I only saw around.

2) I was looking at this recently and found myself reminiscing. I wonder, what addition to braingle was your favorite? Why?
I'd probably have to say WWG, although I've just recently gotten into it. I like that you can have themed games, where additional roles can be added. If done right by an active mod, it can be a blast.

3) Along the same lines, what addition to braingle made the biggest change to the website?
That one's hard to say, since I've taken several breaks over the years, some of which lasted several months. I don't remember which one it was, but I came back from one break in particular to find that there were a LOT more younger folks around. Sad to say, I didn't keep up with all of the site's updates, so I can't say for certain which ones elicited that change, but that's the one that stands out the most.

4) At one point in your Braingle life did you change from just playing games to being a member of the community?
Just a few months ago, actually. Until then, I was almost exclusively on the checkerboard, with a little chat room thrown in there when certain people were on.

5) Who was the first person on Braingle you really got to know? Where did you meet them?
Definitely Smithy. And as you may have guessed, I met him playing checkers. He was only 13 when we first met. They grow up so fast....

1) What is your avatar supposed to be/mean?
My avatar, strangely enough, says "No Avatar" in... I think that's Russian. I could be wrong, though. I haven't yet found one that suits me, although I change it according to the theme in the WWGs I play. I changed it to Princess Peach as a joke during a Clue-themed WWG (since you had to have a name with a color in it), and since you can't remove an avatar entirely, I chose this generic one until I find one that I really like.

2) Do you eat meat or are you a vegetarian? If you do eat meat what is your favorite kind?
I'm definitely a meat-eater, and as almost any guy will tell you, bacon's the way to go. Or at least, the ones I've met.

3) Any things that you must have on you at all times?
My iPod. Even if I'm taking a 5-minute drive to the store, I bring it with me.

4) Why is the sky blue and the grass green?
Because if those colors were reversed, far too many bluegrass puns would be made.

5) Do you believe in aliens and ghosts?
Aliens, yes. I'm very much into Astronomy, and I just can't believe that there's nothing out there in all that empty space. Ghosts, I don't really have an opinion about one way or the other.
