Beowulf the recent CG one - Not too good. It deviates from the story in many ways, and doesn't add anything new. The story in itself is pretty boring to someone like me, who doesn't like action-packed heroic epics. Also, the CG was just an odd choice. I guess it makes some sense, but still made me wonder why they didn't just use real actors inter-spliced with CG.

Harold and Maude. I've wanted to see it forever. It was pretty good.

I've watched a few since I last posted.
1. Slit-mouthed Woman - Based on the yurei legend of the same name, it was pretty good. It was sad though, as usual for J-Horror. I just mainly like how this urban legend was actually rumoured to have happened in the 1970s.
2. 時をかける少女 [2010] (Generally Translated as The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, I just wanted to put the Kanji and Kana because I can actually recognise all of it, ha) I liked it. It had a bitter-sweet ending and was fun. The novel of the same name's been adapted so much, and this is only it's most recent one, it makes me want to read the original and then check out all like eight adaptations. It'd certainly make an interesting and worthy research paper on adaptations for other generations and media. Haha. Just saying.
3. Poltergeist - Lols. It was okay, though not really scary. The family's pretty annoying at times though. Very Speilbergian.
4. The Great Yokai War - A fun film, not scary at all, but involving a lot of interesting yokai and even pays homage to Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro. It's a playful and epic adventure with a young protagonist as he goes into a mad world to fight a war. Not the most original storyline, but it does play around a bit with the story and reminds me of an early and classic Burton film evoking magical realism to conjoin two vastly different worlds. As someone else said, it was very much like a live version of Miyazaki's films. And it was done by Miike!
5. Ahem. Speaking of Miyazaki films ... Pom Poko - Spoilers: Wow, a film with a green message where the development isn't stopped. Not that I like deforestation, but it's refreshing, sad, and realistic that the film took this route instead.

Easy A
It wasn't the greatest thing ever, but I liked it. At least not too horribly teen movie cliche and had some nice literary references I could feel smart explaining to my parents.

This may be off-topic a bit, but I have to put in my two cents here. They did that movie right. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship. To my recollection, it mirrored the book almost exactly. Of the three movies, that one was by miles the best. Everything meshed flawlessly. And that is my say on that subject. Ha!
Saw The Karate Kid (the newer one) last weekend and found it isn't as worthless as I had heard. I rather liked it, to be honest. But it will never hold a candle to the originals. Of course not. They never do. Still, in all fairness, it was enjoyable.
