Since this topic deals with subject matter that suits the Entertainment forum, this is just a heads-up that I will be moving it to said forum tomorrow at this time. So if you suddenly notice that this topic disappeared, you'll find it over in Entertainment. Anyway, let the discussion continue! ~ Mod Shadows

Oh my god, yes. This happens to me all the time. I find myself googling the lyrics hoping I find a match.

She also knows kids look up to her yet does careless things like this.
miley isn't supposed to be a role model she is a person making a living through music she isn't your kids baby sitter
she can do what the hell she likes with her own body and that doesn't mean she lacks self respect
not even about her music anymore i'm just not here for this sexism

Many of her fans are young girls though and thats what i meant. And im not sexist at all, im the least sexist person you could meet, in fact i hate it when people are sexist, no matter if its male or female. Ive met plenty of sexist people, people who use girls, people who use boys, ive been used myself by an ex who thinks girls are just objects. I just think people should think before they do things like that. Put it this way if your young teenage daughter started posting photos like that online im sure youd be very concerned and worried about her doing that. After all there are many dodgy people online, who look for photos like that and even ask you to send them photos, and trust me ive been asked to do that. But my common sense told me not to. Nothing wrong with having body confidence and showing off, but there is a way of doing it in a tasteful way. And by the way i have no kids im only 17 and not everyone wants to be a teenage mum I have tried to move away from this whole subject in my last post saying about getting songs stuck in your head so it could go back to music, so lets drop this whole thing yeah? After all i dont want arguements

sexism
As if girls are the only ones who have to keep a clean image. You get popular and people think certain things about you. That's how it's always been. If you're a male movie star kids look up to and do something the tabloids dislike, you garner some negative publicity too.
That is getting off topic though. Whatever she does, her music is still terrible. Just like Bieber's.

Yep thats what i meant LogicalRoger thanks for explaining it better than me its just like men sending those sort of photos as well its just the same as girls.
But anyway back to music for definate i really dont like her music at all its just the same thing thats been shoved down our throats plenty of times already. Just wish there was a bit more originality out there i dont like madonnas stuff from her new album. Nothing against madonna though, in fact i got one of her albums and i borrow two of my mums madonna albums, i just cant get into her new stuff. I love her ray of light and american life albums however

Jodo
I have a lot of things to say in Mileys defense but jodo pretty much said it haha
Madonna always changed her image in order to keep her fans. I like some of her songs, haven't really heard her new album

Nobody ever calls Justin Bieber's outfits too racy though. Miley's outfits are a daily news story. Justin does stuff like thisthis and people are like "oh how cute, he's growing up." Miley is slammed in the media for that kind of thing. That's where the double standard and sexism and all comes in.
It has nothing to do with their music, but very little stuff like this does.
As far as good pop artists... I have always loved Katy Perry. People assume she's a manufactured pop tart, but she isn't. She writes all her songs, dreams up her own crazy elaborate outfits, fought for and enjoys complete creative control over her career. She does the weird things she does because she likes them. She writes heartfelt songs that she's lived. She left two record labels that wouldn't let her have the control she wanted.
I feel like you can just tell when artists are being genuine. That's why I don't like Lady Gaga. It's hard to find a real person underneath all that weirdness. She obscures her lyrics in superficially artistic metaphors so people think they're deep but don't really know what they mean. I want to relate to the music on the radio. I can't relate to Lady Gaga, so she doesn't seem real, so I just don't buy into her.

No ones even said about her weight As ive already said this whole thing applies to boys as well its not just girls. Miley was an example. And it seems youre just here to argue now, everyones talking about music again. Can we seriously just drop this?

I agree with dolphingurl12 as well about katy perry everything you see and hear from her is real and thats what a good musician does. She also very sweet in interview reminds me of a little girl bless her id love to be mates with her
I have to admit though im a big gaga fan she also writes her own music and she was dropped from her original label. In school she was bullied a lot for being different and her teachers always told her she would never become a star. And she used that for motivation to keep going thats inspired me because ive had many setbacks with my own acting and writing, but i keep moving on and ive had amazing experiences doing drama and music all her costumes and designs all have symbolic meaning behind them to get people thinking.
Fair enough though if you dont like gaga she does seem to be one of these artists you either hate or love
Another thing that annoys me about music is when songs get overplayed on the radio. Not saying all these songs are terrible, some are amazing like Gnarls Barkley's Crazy but unfortunely it became so overplayed. Still a good song though they just seem to play the same song over and over again and it becomes too repeatative.

lord. it was pretty much a reply to LR's "as if girls are the only ones who have to keep a clean image." weight is a part of the image she gets critisized for a lot so i used it as an example.
w/e this topic is kind of odd and is in the wrong forum anyway
if i see someone perpetuating dumb sexist ideas like women who post semi-naked pictures of themselves online have no self respect, i'm going to say something and not care less if it's on topic or not?

I know this is in the wrong part that was a mistake on my part. And i werent only saying about girls doing things like that, boys as well, and yeah i know theres double standards and no im not sexist in the least. I said about boys using girls and vice versa and its the same with the photo thing, i hate it when boys send pictures of themselves that show far too much off as well. But seriously lets just drop this now and get back to the music like ive said far too many times now after all i dont want to argue. At the end of the day you got your views and i got mine and neither of us are going to change each other minds so lets just leave it at that

Arem't there a lot of popular pretty boys in music too? Not as much as there are women, sure, but I don't think you can say a pop star, no matter the gender, can look however they please and get by. Not in the overly shallow world of popular media. Otherwise "hunks" wouldn't be a selling point. I'll give it that women have it harder, and that can be a bit sexist, but the whole idea itself goes beyond sexism to shallow stupidity ingrained into numerous fans with numerous ideologies.
Not much to say on the actual topic. I have listened to some of the top music listed on Grooveshark. I am not pleased. :/

Grooveshark's list of popular music is not the best humanity has to offer.
Oh yes, and I HATE "Call Me Maybe." I have tried to listen to it, and it just grates me. I can pretty well get through it until the part where it repeats something about missing the dude before knowing him over and over. Ahhh, I just can't do it. Very rarely is there a popular song I just can't tolerate, but that is certainly one!
