UFO in Texas!

This "thing" was caught on video by a traffic-cam in Ft. Worth and was seen on the morning news. I'm posting a link to the video. Now, here's the thing: The regular speed video, for me anyway, looks like not much. All you see is a flash. But keep watching. After several repeats, they show it in a darkened or high-contrast mode, and slow-mo, and you see this tube-looking thing come down from the sky, and then curve around and "swim" off to the upper-right! I mean it really does look like a sea creature the way it curves around and then goes back up! What in the world do you think it is?

btw, I know it could be something on the camera, etc. but, discuss!

UFO

That is something, Shawn. I think I'd have to agree with the consensus that it was probably a meteor since several people saw it with their naked eyes.

Meteor would be a feasible explanation except for the fact that meteors don't change direction.

I believe that we are not alone in this universe. With so much out there, it is logical to think that there would be at least one more planet capable of supporting human life, and many that could support life. Just because the planet doesn't have an oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere does not mean that things couldn't live on the surface or under the surface.

Not everybody in Texas is one of those "I got abducted and probed by aliens" cooks and more stories like that have come out of backwoods areas of the Appalachian mountains and the hills of Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, and some from the eastern portions of Texas. Please don't stereotype my home with your ignorance. Thank you.

Whoa!! I don't think any offense was meant (certainly not by me) so take it easy. As a matter of fact, there have been sightings of "unexplained things" here in New York my husband for one swears he saw a UFO back in the '80 and nothing has changed his mind even to this day.

But you are right about meteors not changing direction like that, something I had not thought of. So, you live near where the sighting occurred? What is the general consensus from residents in your area or hasn't there been any speculation voiced in the news media? I'm genuinely interested.

Yeah...I lived in Fort Worth for most of my life. I moved back in March and will be going back next year. I couldn't tell you about the speculation around there, since I'm not there anymore. I can call up my family back there and ask them.

There wasn't any offense from your part, Bobbi and just a bit from the maker of the thread. I, being a Texan, loathe when people stereotype Texans as the dumb rednecks that we are not. Many of us live in the country, way out in the sticks, but there are more intelligent people there than in many of the cities I've been to. Just hoping that by saying something, the stereotyping people lay on each other will subside.

Have to admit that when I saw the topic "UFO in Texas... of course!" I was somewhat taken aback myself. Other than the Marfa lights, I would have thought New Mexico was the UFO mecca.

Dunno what shawneeo meant by it though.

To be totally honest, I really don't remember what I was thinking, but I didn't say anything about "dumb red-necks, etc."! I can understand you being sensitive about being stereotyped, but I myself lived in Texas growing up, and I know many people who live in Texas. I think that what I was thinking of was that Texas has lots of individualistic, independent and interesting people and lots of things seem to happen in Texas. But, I wasn't even thinking of it as a slam, because I wouldn't have posted that if I'd thought of it like that. I am not ignorant, and just saying "of course" might have stirred someone to ask me what I meant? That is really jumping to conclusions and putting words in my mouth, especially since I didn't even mention anything about it being in Texas except for in the title.

Nevertheless, I'm sorry you were offended. I'll ask the mod to remove "of course". I've been on here for years, and if you are offended, the best thing to do is to either PM the person and ask them what they meant, or PM a mod.

Per your request, I have modified the title of the topic. Mod RGW4

Well, for one, a UFO is not unidentified because when you identify it as a UFO you are giving it an identification.

It was probably a meteor on an unusual angle. It was a bright light so that indicates a chemical reaction of some sort.

Yes, you're right Kronos - All UFO sightings are strictly from Texas. I'm sure that's what everyone in this topic was thinking, it was nice of you to bring it out in the open for us.

That video was really something. Too bad it was so far away that we couldn't confirm that there was only 1, and not 2 objects.

I have seen my share of unusual sky sightings in Texas, and have known of many bizarre interpretations made by both city rednecks and country ones. I did not get to see this one first hand, although the local news there covered this one pretty clearly and explained it away quite satisfactorily, but there are still others who are certain it was bug eyed cattle probers doing their scheduled rounds. Being from here, and dealing with this first hand, i find no offense at all in the comments which lit off that flame.

I'm disappointed Kronos was not jumped by a mod for his rude comment.

Thanks for that, IO. Like I said, I know I don't think all Texans are rednecks, so I know that's not what I meant! But I am very glad to see that the comment was finally removed!

I'm late to this party but I just watched the video a couple times (couldn't make anything out at first) and it looks like what I imagine a meteorite would look like against a hazy night skyline. What might seem like the blob changing course is likely just the camera flare off the visible shock wave. Imagine a parabolic bow wave leading the unseen meteorite as it shoots down from camera-left. A bead of light reflects at the camera from the left portion of this wave, then, as the object itself approaches impact, the bead seems to travel around the parabola and back up the right portion and vanishes as the light angles move away from camera, seeming to disappear in an upward manner to camera-right.

Review the video with the idea that it's the pressure wave you're looking at and not the meteorite. Video enhancements are a tool useful for measuring and so on, but you need to keep track of what the enhancement is doing to you as an observer. Red-eye reduction can make red eyes turn blue. Just remember that the eyes were never red and they are only blue because the computer made them blue after the fact. If the real eyes were blue, it's just a happy accident.
