I think the students have the rights to wear their pants as low as they want to, as long as they're not revealing anything illegal. I mean, whether one wears their jeans low or not is a matter of style, as long as, like I said, nothing illegal is going on. Maybe the staff thinks it's unsightly, but, how does it affect education?

Of course I understand that many people don't like this look... but, should they have the right to control how others dress just because they don't like it?

And yes, I wear my pants hanging low! I also always wear my shirts untucked, so even if my drawers were showing and my pants were around my mid-butt, nothing is showing. I used to highly disapprove of the hanging crotch look at first, but then I started to appreciate it. What can I say, it's just how I roll! I'm glad I didn't adopt this style when I was a student!

Life... can be so many things... how can anyone ever think they are RIGHT? HAhahahahahahaha!!!!!

One thing a school has to consider is safety. If I were the Principal I'd put an end to the saggy drawers for this reason only. If there should be an emergency, and people had to exit the building asap, don't you think these hideous looking baggy pants would be a problem? I think they may be, and for that, I'd put an end to them. Also, if they signified a certain group or gang, that would be another reason to rid them. Kids have a right to express themselves, but I think schools have a right to implement a dress code, as long as good reasons are given as to why certain things are not allowed.

Swallowed pen still works 25 years later
By Cari Nierenberg

The pen is said to be mightier than the sword. But an unusual case report has shown that a pen may be mightier than stomach acid.

The case, which appeared in the British Medical Journal Case Reports, described a 76- year-old British woman sent to a GI specialist because of weight loss and diarrhea.

She was diagnosed with severe diverticulosis, a condition that's common in older people in which small pouches bulge out from the colon. But when doctors did a scanning test of her belly they noticed something strange: "A linear foreign body in the stomach." (Click here for photos.)

When asked about it, the woman remembered accidentally swallowing a black felt-tip pen 25 years earlier. (In case you're wondering, dentures and toothpicks are two of the most common items that adults accidentally swallow.)

According to her gastroenterologist Dr. Oliver Waters, who authored the case report, she was standing on her stairs using an uncapped pen to poke a spot on her tonsils. She was also holding a hand mirror to guide the pen to the exact spot. Somehow, while doing this, she lost her balance and stumbled. The fall managed to push the pen down her throat. It glided down her gullet and found a home in her tummy.

She told her husband and her doctor what had happened, but they were skeptical of the story. X-rays done at the time were normal and found no trace of the pen. Flash forward to the present, to a different doctor and even better stomach-scanning technology to investigate the case of the missing marker. More than two decades later a scan hit pay dirt: The pen.

Although the woman's current digestive problems had nothing to do with the marker she had unintentionally downed, doctors decided to remove it anyway. Their rationale was a case in the medical literature of a child accidentally swallowing a ball-point pen that bore a hole in his bowel. Incredibly, the pen had stayed in her stomach for 25 years without causing any significant damage to her GI tract, Waters says.

After bathing in stomach acid for a two-and-a-half decades, the pen was corroded and the plastic was flaky, but, amazingly, the pen still had usable ink and could write!

"This case highlights that plain abdominal x-rays may not identify ingested plastic objects and occasionally it may be worth believing the patient's account however unlikely it may be," the report advises doctors.

Burglar returns family's stolen goods and leaves apology note. Adds in $50 for broken door

When a Guelph, Ont., couple woke up last Friday, they found their digital camera and Xbox console in a plastic bag on the front porch. According to the attached letter, they'd been robbed the night before — and the thief had been having second thoughts.

"I compromised your feelings of safety in your own home," read the anonymous letter, headlined "apology," and addressed to the "family I have wronged."

"I've been having a very tough time financially lately and I made the worst mistake of my life."

The package included $50, apparently for repairs to a window screen. So they checked the back of the house, and found one of the screens had been ripped.

More + apology note

And we Canadians wonder why we have a rep for being soft

Another burglar/pizza story? Montana man robs pizza place; cries and says he's trying to feed family

A man who apparently summoned the courage to rob a U.S. pizza restaurant changed his mind as the clerk started to hand him money, broke down crying and ended up leaving with a pizza to feed his hungry family.
Just after midnight Monday, a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a bandanna across his face entered a Papa John's restaurant in Montana and handed the clerk a note demanding money.
The cashier started to comply, but then the man started crying and told the clerk he was just trying to provide for his wife and family.
The clerk talked with him for a few minutes and offered to make the would-be thief a pizza and some chicken wings.
As the man waited, a large knife fell out of his pocket. He did not threaten anyone with it. The man took the food and some soda and left on foot.
Helena Police Chief Troy McGee praised the clerk's actions.
"I'd say the clerk was pretty astute," McGee said. "I mean, he knows how to talk to this person. Kind of commiserated with him a little. Talked to him about it and, you know, actually changed his mind about robbing the place. That was pretty good."
McGee said he's not sure what he could charge the man with.
"We'd like to locate the suspect," McGee said. "We'd hate to have him do this again."
