Red Zone Walk to Christchurch Cathedral

Hey guys, later on today my Mum and I are hoping to go in the red zone as they have set up a walking track from Cashel mall right through to the Cathedral.
Wish me luck as there is still a chance that we could get another big earthquake and if that did happen, we probably wouldn't come out alive.

That seems a bit dramatic.

What's the probability of that actually happening?

You'd have to be underneath a crumbling structure during a strong quake for there to be any danger. Odds are the tater will return to our fold unharmed.

Seems odd to have a walking track in the "red zone".

It's not what you know, it's what people think you know.

A bit of concrete between some fences, well that's what it is here!!!!
I guess the walk wasn't what I expected it to be, but it was still great to see the old thing still standing!!!

The probability of another big earthquake happening is possible, but not that likely. The worst bit is we haven't had an earthquake for a bit!!!
At least we got in and out in one piece!!
Well if you think that a walking track is odd in the red zone, they have a bus doing tours of the red zone!!!

If it's a red zone, I would think that any activity is odd, other then military.

Glad you made it out alive.

Wow! You're still alive! /sarcasm

Earthquakes that could happen at any time no longer scare me, since where I live is 100 years overdue for a major one. Though I think it would be cool to be in an earthquake, but that may just be the nerdy geologist in me.

We had a minor tremor here, well, it was major enough for almost everyone I know to feel it, but, here there was no damage. In the epicenter a few buildings came down or maybe just cracked. That was the 2nd earthquake I've experienced. The first was even smaller, and I was in NYC, in the 80s. This one, even though it was harmless in Philly, went on long enough for my friend to ask me why the wall was shaking, and then for me to stop and realize that the entire wall of the house was indeed wobbling! We had no idea for sure what had happened until we saw it on the news!

The first earthquake I ever experienced was the Sept 2010 7.1 magnitude earthquake that was centered just out of CHCH and the Aftershocks after that.
