Yep. That's why I don't like debates. They're just making speeches. It won't give you much to go on. It's always too vague, panders heavily, and can be backpedaled at any time. More theatre than anything. Thus it makes sense that people are supporting Romney's aggressive readiness. One only needs to show that he is confident and ready with the same old statements. Well prepared for what to say, but not ready to actually evaluate what is being said.

And it is not what they SAY, it is what they DO!

Our Prime Minister said, BEFORE the election "We will not have a carbon tax!"
Then when she was elected...what did they do????
They introduced the Carbon Tax.

She is plain faced liar.

I scored the first debate as 1 for the Barefaced Liar, and 1 for the President.

Obama did not lower himself to the clownlike rantings and rebuttals repeated over and over again, made in obvious tauntings to get a response. In that, Obama did quite well, att 1/2 point for the President.

And Obama takes round 2 by a landslide.

Wow I'm glad the mod stepped in to set Romney straight on Benghazi. I guess he spent too much time pre-debate watching Fox News that he forgot about reality where Obama condemned the Benghazi attacks twice a day after as an act of terror.

Also, did he really think he could win over the women vote with stories about his "binders of women", and how he wants to let them get home in time to cook dinner and take care of the kids?

I thought that comment about women was going to be the worst thing he said, then they asked about gun control! His answer was truly "more two parent families will reduce gun violence!" Meanwhile, the President of the United States, product of a one-parent household, stands next to him. You know what else reduces gun violence? Not selling automatic weapons!

Romney did duck his head and waddle off, at the end of the reaction where Obama stared holes through him, and called foul for such a drastic offense as to claim it was used as a political football.
The only thing that keeps Romney from being the political football is the stitches missing from his head and Obama looked like he could give him some for a moment or two.

Way to GO! big O!

Why can't Romney see Romney just keeps harming himself, over and over? Shouldn't it be obvious? Is he really that dense?

yes, HP, a definate victory Obama

This may get a bit long, but this is the transcript of the first question asked in the debate, and Rmoney's answer.
If you read this tell me, does Rmoney answer the asked question?
------------------------- -------------------------- -----------------------
QUESTION: Mr. President, Governor Romney, as a 20-year-old college student, all I hear from professors, neighbors and others is that when I graduate, I will have little chance to get employment. What can you say to reassure me, but more importantly my parents, that I will be able to sufficiently support myself after I graduate?

ROMNEY: Thank you, Jeremy. I appreciate your — your question, and thank you for being here this evening and to all of those from Nassau County that have come, thank you for your time. Thank you to Hofstra University and to Candy Crowley for organizing and leading this — this event.

Thank you, Mr. President, also for being part of this — this debate.

Your question — your question is one that's being asked by college kids all over this country. I was in Pennsylvania with someone who had just graduated — this was in Philadelphia — and she said, "I've got my degree. I can't find a job. I've got three part- time jobs. They're just barely enough to pay for my food and pay for an apartment. I can't begin to pay back my student loans."

So what we have to do is two things. We have to make sure that we make it easier for kids to afford college.

ROMNEY: And also make sure that when they get out of college, there's a job. When I was governor of Massachusetts, to get a high school degree, you had to pass an exam. If you graduated in the top quarter of your airlines, we gave you a John and Abigail Adams scholarship, four years tuition free in the college of your choice in Massachusetts, it's a public institution.

I want to make sure we keep our Pell grant program growing. We're also going to have our loan program, so that people are able to afford school. But the key thing is to make sure you can get a job when you get out of school. And what's happened over the last four years has been very, very hard for America's young people. I want you to be able to get a job.

I know what it takes to get this economy going. With half of college kids graduating this year without a college — excuse me, without a job. And without a college level job, that's just unacceptable.

And likewise you've got more and more debt on your back. So more debt and less jobs. I'm going to change that. I know what it takes to create good jobs again. I know what it takes to make sure that you have the kind of opportunity you deserve. And kids across this country are going to recognize, we're bringing back an economy.

It's not going to be like the last four years. The middle-class has been crushed over the last four years, and jobs have been too scarce. I know what it takes to bring them back, and I'm going to do that, and make sure that when you graduate — when do you graduate?

QUESTION: 2014.

ROMNEY: 2014. When you come out in 2014, I presume I'm going to be president. I'm going to make sure you get a job. Thanks Jeremy. Yeah, you bet.

He will make sure he has a job in 2014 - I hear McDonalds hopes to expand that year. Of course this college student may be graduating in 2013... sure sucks to be a year early for a job.

No... both Romney and the President side stepped most questions with their own agendas. They always do. They direct the talk to the person who asked it and try to negotiate their answer to fit the question... but if the shoe doesn't fit they say tuff, this is what I want to say tonight.

That is so right RGW4, they have their talking points and they keep directing the answers towards that. So what do we end up with at the end of the night?
"Binders of women."
"Act of terror."
"Bankrupt Detroit."
Oh and don't forget about the moderator who was on one side or the other.

Let us remember that Wag the Dog was fiction, and the embassy situation was real.
Romney makes political hay that day, by claiming Obama is making political hay over the event....

now, who was the real haymaker??

yes, it WAS an offensive remark that Romney made.

but Obama is a big boy, and can take care of himself, as we gathered from the "bs" remark of late...

Envision the little boy from Christmas Story went to the mail box and his Romney bs decoder ring had arrived!
Ralphy saw through it, too.

apparently the 47 percent and 2 or 3 more voiced their wishes, and the electoral college is satisfies with a clear and decisive result.

that Romney/Biden result of a tie in the electoral college was REALLY scary.

LOL!!!!

(i have showed your revised ring of power grab avatar to SO many people, thank you!)

Too early to call, really. Probably plenty of new Republicans scrambling to "take back the white house" from the "Dem. terror" that has been in there for 8 years. Both new and old faces going back to the arena. Unless, of course, Obama turns it around for his second term and improves the country. That would great and, though some would still criticise his first term and try for a reelection, might also bring out Democratic hopefuls.

I wonder if Romney will try to win for the third time? I don't follow politics, but coming this close and losing makes me think he might not try again. Though there have been presidents who have tried and tried before.

At least I won't have to be called any more by silly political ads, at the very least, for another two years.

I hope Republicans finally abandon their platform of fringe politics and bigotry, and finally try to cooperate with Democrats. I already hear calls from Republicans to impeach Obama

But here are other things to look at to see America's progress:

First time same-sex marriage is legalized by state ballot measure (and in three states: ME, MD and WA);
First openly gay female senator (WI's Tammy Baldwin);
First disabled female veteran in Congress (IL's Tammy Duckworth);
First Asian-American (and first Buddhist) female Senator (HI's Mazie Hirono);
First state dominated by female federal leaders (NH has a female Democratic governor, two female Senators and two Congresswomen).
First states to legalize marijuana (CO and WSH);

Very impressive. For once I envy some aspects of American politics.

Haha!

A DEAD candidate has been elected to the the Texas state Senate in Wednesday's US election, just weeks after he passed away.
Mario Gallegos posthumously beat a Republican challenger on Wednesday after his friends and family continued to campaign on his behalf after his death last month.

What does that say about politics!!!!!

What it really says is that Texans don't want a Republican in that office! A dead Senator is better than a Republican.

I don't necessarily agree with that, but he wouldn't be the first dead politician elected or re-elected to a position.
