That's a rather ambiguous question.

Do I believe that the world is at peace? No. More like the world is in pieces.
Do I believe that world peace is possible? Yes. Though sadly it might be more probable if only one dictator/ruler were in charge.
Do I believe that world peace is a good idea? Yes, oh yes. Imagine all the people living life in peace...

Great thought, but impossible. As long as there is sin in the world, peace cannot and will not exist world wide.

I have to agree with Cab. It's difficult how to answer that. I'm going to assume that you mean whether humans can ever achieve it or not. I'm not sure. I'm skeptical about it, as it would take quite a bit to make every nation declare peace with one another let alone to actually mean it. It would be even more miraculous if all groups in all nations and all people could be at peace with one another. Heck, even then what about animals? If animals stop fighting, some will starve. It would not only be incredible but defying natural instincts.

I would absolutely love if everyone would stop fighting over useless nonsense like land or beliefs or pride or power or money or even food. I wish we could all treat each other as friends, neighbours, and loved ones. I shall hope for it, and try to do what I think can help go towards that goal, but I ain't going to wait on the porch for it to come anytime soon.

A beautiful thought, though. If only all would listen and truly hear.

Not a whole other reasons come to mind on what else they would fight about!

When I first saw the topic, I thought maybe somebody was running for Miss America and had to have a better answer to what you would like to see other than World Peace.

We all want it... it's usually messed up by the politicians who think they can gain votes by stirring things up so they look more powerful!

so far i cannot see why sin is the major element. greed, selfishness, envy, dominance, disrespect, racism, supremacy.. are these sins? i don't think so. they are sometimes despicable, but they are sometimes just our nature as human beings...

religious definitions of sin? lets not even go there, please. we have too closely tied the west/east battle to religious beliefs in the christians versus islamics already. i say let em go at each other with sticks and stones, like the old days, and the rest of us can just ignore their childish petty battle.

world wide strife/war/fighting is no different than small family squabbles. someones feelings get hurt, and they retaliate.

there cannot be a world at peace, but it is because we are human. flesh and blood. not because we are sinners.

my rule of thumb is there will always be a fight if there are two people in a room, and it doesn't always take two people.

World peace? What's world peace? What an odd term.

World peace is a myth. Never going to happen. People have a knack of causing issues, especially with the ever-growing population.

The only thing that prevents this world from destroying itself completely is fear. The Cold War, for example, was controlled by fear. Russia was afraid of getting bombed, and we were afraid of getting bombed.

The same is going on today. We are controlled by fear on every level: personal, community, state/province, country, region, world. Fear, however, is not a peaceful emotion.

The only thing that stops terrorists from attacking the U.S. is because they saw all our advanced military equipment and fighting power, and they were like .

So, to answer your question, no, I do not believe in world peace. Trust me humans are not perfect. Even though some areas might be "at peace" on certain levels, that doesn't mean somewhere else someone is trying to break the peace. It's happened before and history will repeat itself. That's humans for you.

With seven billion people it's impossible for there not to be an issue. To quote Richard Harris from Gladiator: "There is always someone left to fight."

The only thing that makes terrorists want to attack the US is the fact they USE their advanced military to kill innocent people and rob their resources.

I don't think the world will ever be at peace simply because the earth wasn't designed as a peaceful place. There is always an instinctive battle for survival and competition for finite resources whose supply is only getting smaller.

Theoretically, it's possible for it to be peaceful if there could be some way for every individual to be completely satisfied, having all they want and need. However, even if we could do that, there are many rich people who have all they want and need + more NOW, yet still find it necessary to take advantage of people and ruin their lives. There's a critical flaw in humanity - greed; which, once again, probably stems out of our survival instinct. Which reminds me of why communism is a theoretical utopia, but fails when it's actually applied.

On a similar note concerning our flawed mindsets, I read a quote the other day that said "Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" -Ernest Gaines. I think that in itself is very telling.

So if we could a) completely satisfy everyone and b) completely reshape and improve our mindsets and culture, the world would be peaceful. Thus making the task virtually impossible.

If only...we convinced osama bin laden to meditate and go to retreats in the Appalachian Mountains. I believe that if you get really good at being bored, it becomes calming and thus peaceful. Since I started meditating, I have become much more whole of a person

Until humans accept that they are a single species and work together for the good of that species we'll continue to have war.

Until all humans have access to the basics, meaning plentiful food, water, shelter... there will be fighting for territory and supplies.

Just basic biological facts. Doesn't even include all the added drama of the higher brain.

I'm reminded of an X-Files episode Je Souhaite where Mulder is granted three wishes by a genie he freed from a storage locker. He of course wishes for "world peace" and instantly becomes horrified at the cost of his wish. The genie had a sick sense of humor, granted, but, her interpretation of true world peace was very legitimate.

Someone else has hinted at concepts like the Pax Romana which came about through supreme dominance of a single force that simply forced treaties hence peace upon all lesser entities. Yeah, world peace has an ugly connotation that way.

So in other words, for world peace to happen, we have to lose our individuality, freedoms, liberties, self respect and . . . . . because you cannot force anything, without those being forced losing everything. And World peace is not possible without "force". Why? Because of the sinful nature within us all. As long as there is Sin in the world, there will never be "peace" unless we are forced to accept the rules and regulations of a controlling force. That is not peace to me. That is domination.

I hate to have to say this again, but this has not one thing to do with "sin". That is a is a figment of a philosophical imagination where being human is somehow wrong, and the domination is called religion.
Peace is an act of choices by multiple individuals, in agreement to be tolerant and accepting. There is no sin involved. World peace is unlikely because not that many people can agree to get along without some holdout with an agenda making waves in the calmed waters...

Like I said, didn't even include the added complications of the higher brain... simply for biological reasons it's unlikely the human species will ever just get over it and cooperate... and due to our higher brains, no forcing, yada it can't be invoked for our own good... so yeah... extremely unlikely.

The worlds never been peaceful really its a shame be great if it was but somewhere theres always going to be something going in, not just wars, but in peoples personal lifes as well. Like domestic violence, crime, bullying, things like that Even if someday there will be no more wars these things will still carry on. I dont understand why people want to hurt others surely theres better things to live for?

I got all my sisters with me.

You call it sin, I call it natural inclination to ensure your own survival even at the expense of others. But it's the same thing IMO. It's the basic nature. Some override it and will starve so another can eat, that's the higher brain working, the conscience, the willful choice, the moral obligation, whichever works for you. We call it something different but really it's the same. And until we choose to overcome our own selfishness to self, even over species, we're going to continue to have fights over resources.

Of course it's not just donating to feed others, shirt off your back, etc... this goes all the way down to reproduction... hormonally driven to do it, even if not able to protect/provide for offspring... can you say teen pregnancy... or that guy with 30 kids who's asking the state for a break on child support? Perfect examples of self overriding species.

Not that I have room to talk... we have two children, both unplanned but loved and provided for... yet I was fully aware of the overpopulation problem when they were conceived, carried and born. Hate being a hypocrite but can't for the life of me regret either of them.

Depends on what you mean.

I believe that world peace is possible, but with a basic ultimate ruler or government of the whole world. And that system may have many problems of itself.

I don't believe that we're are going to get anywhere with world peace in my life, because first people need to be thankful for what they already have, and not go to other countries so they can be richer. If there is war, which there shouldn't be, why involve so many soldiers???
Why not have one person represent the country to fight another guy and that would be the war??? I guess that would probably have a lot of problems too.

But back to the question. I do believe in world peace, and I do think we will accomplish it one day, but that one day isn't any time soon.
