maybe they are not worthy of a whole section. perhaps a catch all can get some activity going here again.

place a current event subject in the wind, here, even if it isn't worthy of a whole topic

All it took was one more mass shooting.
On that topic, an ad on braingle says 1,089 Americans have been killed with guns since the sandy hook shooting. Can anyone verify this?

This website has the tally at 926. Gun deaths by state.
Don't know if it's all true, but I can confirm the ones listed for MN.

An 11 year old collapsed during a soccer game, and died of a heart attack here in Ducky's home town. They had a bake sale to raise money for the family.

They think the Sandy Hook shooting was a conspiracy set up by the American government to act as a "false flag" attack so they could disarm American citizens against them. They are the epitome of ignorance, and it's a huge insult to the lives of all the innocents just for political gain.

Nah, I think they're just desperate for attention and not good enough people to get it somehow else.

It IS sick. To think, as the partent of a pre-k child myself, if someone said that about my child if they had been in a horrible tradgey such as this I would have to go APE $#!+ on them....AMERICAN style......and then tell their family it never happend, they are just dilusional.
Same type of people who think the American government is the ones who committed 911.....REALLY???

And Harry....the laws he signed are insignificant when you look at the whole scheme of it. Laws that need to be passed to make real change in gun law can not be done without Congress aproval.....and THAT will NEVER happen.
The gun deaths that you all are speaking about are close to 1000 in a month, but if you look at the stastics most are innercity crime related and only 12 were committed with semi-auto guns. The rest are with your average `ol hand gun that grandma keeps in her nightstand drawer "in case the coloreds break in."
Yes I grew up in the south....No I am not racist.
In days and years past this was the mentality of people. Their guns were for their home protection, and for the majority of Americans that is what they are for today. Meth-heads and crack heads that wanna break in and rob your jewerly box to get their next fix.
Honestly, the second ammendment has been law for 250 years and it is not going anywhere. It is Americans view that we won our freedom from British tyranny by owning guns and we will defend ourselves and our families from any future threats.....government or not!

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make itwidely available to law enforcement.
11. Nominate an ATF director.
12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effectiveuse of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to developinnovative technologies.
16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.
He signed through those actions. They don't solve all the issues because congress is necessary for that (as you said), but they're a start.
And gun laws are not a gun ban. No one is taking away the 2nd amendment - it just needs to be regulated. If the 2nd amendment is unregulated, you should technically be allowed to acquire nukes because it is your "right". Soon enough congress will come to their senses.

Oh I hear ya......it is just that as someone who grew up in a region of this country where guns are a popular thing any mention of gun control is "taking away the right" in the eyes of gun enthesists. This is where congress will not allow changes to be made. The south and rural congressional members are not likely to even bother looking at a bill regarding it. As it stands right now they are already attacking the laws he has placed in his proposal.
There are changes that need to be made. The second ammentment was made almost 250 years ago. ALOT has changed since then....ALOT

Which is why we have amendments in the first place.

My biggest problem with those who want to fall back on their right to bear arms is the fact that in 1776... the gun held one bullet, which had to be manually loaded and prepared, once fired, they had to take time to re-load. Most of them also lived in a wilderness, in today's definations.
In 100 years from now, someone may come up with a gun that can shoot a nuclear shot that could wipe out an entire town. Someone will use the same ammendment to say they have the right to bear this gun, because our fore-fathers could easily have seen this in their future and want that to be their intention.
I feel a person should be allowed to own one, maybe two guns that are basically simple in nature to protect themselves... but at no point should any civilian own a gun that can fire off 50 rounds in two seconds... so they can say they are trying to protect themselves. Reality missed a few steps in the middle.
A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new. -Albert Einstein- |

I agree with you RGW4.
The world has changed.
But I wish we had the right to bear arms in Australia.
I'd have a gun.
And I'd use if if anyone came to my house to threaten me. By geez, I'd let them have it.
As a community we need to look at how we deal with the 'bad guys'.
In Australia, it seems the bad guys have guys [because they can...they illegally buy them, have them, deal in them] and the ordinary people are not allowed.
If someone breaks into your house...as was a case a couple of years ago, and you happen to have a gun [being a farmer] you shoot at them as a warning....YOU are arrested and become the 'bad' guy!!! The man and his wife were hiding in the bedroom, yelling "We have a gun! We'll shoot! Dont come in!" and they still did....and the court found the old man guilty of an armed attack! What the???
We give rights to the bad guys. They can attck us but we cant retaliate.
