For those unfamiliar

I'm just an ordinary average guy with nothing to lose.

It was right of him to expose it, though what the NSA was doing wasnt that horrible imo. As other people think its more or less or an invasion of privacy, my standard shouldn't have to be that of the whole country.

No vote, since I wouldnt call him a "hero" or a "traitor"

I think the hero and traitor labels are definitely way too extreme, but he certainly should not be punished.

Snowden just revealed what anyone paying attention already knew. Obama is a neoconservative continuing the policies of his predecessor, and thus he doesn't care much about civil and privacy rights. We already knew this with the extension of the patriot act, and the FISA bill which were well publicized. So basically all Snowden did is confirm the obvious.

I don't think I'd call him a hero, but he's a good guy with principles and I respect that.

It isn't heroic to agree to confidentiality then break that agreement.
Legally, he is liable for his actions.

he is the one that signed agreements not to talk about his work or what he saw there.

he has made no effort to take responsibility seriously, other than run and hide at the knowledge that he did a bad thing

The first part of the whole mess, where he leaked information on the NSA spying on Americans, could have been chalked up to more of a whistleblower move. If he had stopped there, he might have had enough supporters to get him a slap on the wrist from the government (i.e. banned from any government jobs, maybe a fine or short jail time). The problem was that he then went to China and started telling China how they were being spied on, and then proceeded to start telling numerous foreign governments how they were being spied on. THAT is a serious crime, and he should not simply get away with it.

I think what he did was one of the best things anyone has done for a very long time.

What the NSA and the US government (along with US businesses) are doing, spying on their own citizens and consumers and people from other countries in order to predict "National Security Risks" is wrong.

This is coming from an agency headed by the CIA, which is known to torture and kill and break all kinds of laws without scrutiny (refer to MKULTRA experiments, Iran Contra, the Crack epidemic.)

It is my opinion that these people are not looking out for our well-being but are instead trying to find ways to control the masses, by any means nessesary. This is just another move to help label people who don't agree with the government "Terrorists". Barack Obama himself said that they are moving away from terrorists in other countries and are trying to find terrorists in the US.

This massive spy network only works against the people and restricts us in our own decisions. It is government Tyranny and it became exposed. The question is, are we going to continue to fight for our freedom (which we don't have contrary to popular illusions) or are we going to let the people in power and the wealthy few bring us back 500 years socially? The majority of the population might as well be labeled surfs; the only difference is now the wealthy have found ways such as television and creature comforts to dull us down and settle us down.

I think what Edward Snowden did and continues to do is for the people. It transcends patriotism to any one nation, but rather he is a patriot of people living in all countries.

so protecting innocent people from harm is wrong? puhleeze!

are not looking out for our well-being but are instead trying to find ways to control the masses

don't forget area51 and elvis and the secret plot with blue smurfs invading the minds of children as a plot to .. oh wait, it must have worked, after all, judging by the quote.

what Edward Snowden did and continues to do

is prove what a liar and untrustworthy individual he really is. again, i say he is a traitor to his work, his peers, his government and the people, and should be punished as a spy in the sternest of ways.
