There had to public outrage because that was all that was against him. No evidence. No reason to believe anything else. Then the real racists stepped in.

Oh come on This needed to go to a trial, you even just admitted stand your ground wasn't a good reason to let him go. There had to be some evidence that what he did was actually self-defense, and the defense was able to string together a potentially plausible story. The police knew none of this

So stand your ground was sufficient?

He succeeded without it and with a stacked deck. He would've won with that defense.

Your country may have guilty until proven innocent, but that's not how things work in the United States. In the United States, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty by "competent evidence". There was no such evidence in this case. All you have are a flurry of accusations of intent, no actual proof of intent. And although innocent until proven guilty is NOT in the Constitution, this was a Supreme Court ruling in 1894.

In what way was I presuming his guilt? The evidence of unlawfulness was the unarmed dead body of a teen, the 911 call with a frantic and paranoid Zimmerman, his racism/hatred towards blacks (besides his profiling/stereotyping, he even used a racial expletive in the 911 call referring to Trayvon), etc. There needed to be a plausible, evidence-based explanation for what happened. We knew Zimmerman killed him, and for no validated reason...you can't just walk away from that and take his word for it.

And America is the last place to go to if you're looking for "innocent until proven guilty". You guys literally have laws that authorize the government to assassinate its own citizens without a trial, and a place where people serve out indefinite sentences without charges or trial.

The evidence of his innocence was his bloody and bruised face and head.

Yeah, because no one has ever self-inflicted any wounds before and that could just as easily be evidence of Trayvon defending himself from an armed attacker.

Ok folks... I am not against this discussion, but it has turned into a debate, even though up to now it has been civilized. If you wish to debate the outcome of this case, I suggest you start a topic in the debate forum please. Point is, the justice system has had its moment, Zimmerman was found not guilty. If you do not feel justice was served, open a debate topic and go from there.

Thank you, Moderator RGW4

Sorry, RGW, that's pretty much all I have to say. It seems we keep rehashing the same points

Anyway, this was a tragedy for everyone involved (including Zimmerman).... RIP Trayvon. A life ended far too short no matter which way you look at it.

Here is a short video by a prominent liberal youtuber which puts the case in the most reasonable perspective, IMO.

Hey Harry, no problem. Like I said the discussion was very civilized, I just saw enough quick posts with opposite opinions that sort of leads to a debate... just thought a friendly reminder was needed.

By the way, there is already a Zimmerman topic in Debate if anyone wishes to check it out. Thanks.

Recent news told of Zimmerman being stopped for speeding in Texas, and he apparently acknowoledged to the officer he had a gun in the glove compartment. The fact that he was crossing multiple county lines made it legal to carry it (locked in the glove box, that is) and the fact Texas upholds other states carry permits enabled him to take the speeding ticket and go on without further issue. the video showed he had to prompt the officer to realize who he even was, before the officer became aware of his (my words) "infamy"

i am sure governor Perry will have him over for dinner and a shooting spree soon! (chortle)

if you are hunting him, there is where he's hiding.

Thanks for the update, IO. Say, where is your update for us about when Zimmerman stopped to help the family in the overturned SUV? Would have thought that counted as a current event too.

one can only comment on what one has heard along the way, and i never heard a peep about the overturned suv... blame the media, for not holding my attention, or blame me for using the remote to squirm around much of the so called news.

as for where is the update, it seems you just gave it.

next?

Further updates
- Zimmerman arrested for assault after pointing gun at his girlfriend
- Zimmerman threaten's (ex)wife's family with a gun

A strange pattern here...I'm sure it's nothing.
