I have seen a three-word post in a public forum. I want to report it as spam, but I cannot do so. What should I do? Also, the Braingle time is 6:30-ish, but I have set to an hour later in my account? Is this a bug? Should I report it to Jake?

Braingle Time is not the time on your account; it's the server time or something like that. It's always Central Time.

As for the three-word post, I suggest you leave it be unless: (a) they're advertising something, (b) they're posting just for the sake of being annoying or adding to their post count, or (c) they said something else completely irrelevant to the conversation. Actually, the fact that you wanted to report it as spam but didn't is an indicator that it probably isn't spam.

By the way, this is Ask a Quizmaster. The issues you mentioned are ones that moderators take care of. Just start a new topic for those.

Happy New Year.

Can we know who submitted a correction to our quiz? I also want to give my responses to him or her directly.

Sorry, no. That info is not given out.

As you know, a user is banned from making quiz corrections for a few days if that user submits too many incorrect corrections. If this happens a certain amount of times to the same user, are they permanently banned from making corrections?

No, I don't believe so, but after I had a series of rejected corrections, I started only correcting what I was absolutely certain of: i.e. spelling mistakes, missing or improper apostrophes, and the like. I also stopped trying to hunt down corrections and just checked the newly published quizzes. Not sure if any of this applies to you, but I went from an F grade to an A grade and I now have over 1200 corrections, I've not had a rejected correction in some months, though it still happens.

Further, if you are not flooding the person with messages, consider PMing a QM before submitting a correction that you might be on the fence about. Since QMs process the original quizzes, they might be better sources of info regarding errors that may have been missed.

Another correction of mine was recently rejected. The correction was made on question 9 of this quiz. Here it is:
Problems Reported
Technically speaking, someone could click on any of these answers and be correct!

Comments
This issue has come up before and my source has been shown to be accurate. The current selected answer is correct. No change is needed.

Quizmaster Comments
Since the question is specific as to half siblings, and 5 is the correct answer, there are no changes necessary.

Result
Your correction was rejected.

Now, I'm not saying that the person who made the quiz was wrong, but that someone could be correct with any of these answers, as there are many different versions of the myths. It's just not fair! It's as though the question was the following:

Which of the following is a prime number?

2
3
5
7
11

See my point? I would like this cleared up as soon as possible!

Crocodile, your example above is not the same as the correction you submitted and posted above and really can't be compared. The question on the quiz specifically asked for the correct amount of half siblings. Even though anything below the correct answer might be technically correct, it is not what the question asked and therefore, not entirely correct. The correct answer of 5 is the only answer that includes the number of ALL half siblings. Answering 1,2,3, or 4 would be an incorrect answer since the answer to the specific question is 5.

Sorry for the confusion, but the QMs go by the QMG rules as well as what the questions ask.

Thanks, but there are varying versions of how many half siblings there are.

Hey QM's!

If I want to make a quiz for Baby Boomers on general trivia, where might I post it? What category? OTHER is what I'm thinking.

Yes, I think Other would work well. Sounds like an interesting quiz.

One of my corrections on this quiz has been returned. It reads as follows:

Problems Reported
Technically speaking, the term "Ice cream truck" refers to the truck, not the treats themselves.

Quizmaster Comments
This quiz is about ice cream. An ice cream truck is associated with ice cream. No change necessary.

Your correction was rejected.

Please do not waste the Administrator's time by protesting every rejection. If the Administrator agrees with the QM, it will hurt your Quiz Corrector grade. If you honestly believe that the QM made a mistake, you may protest this decision.

However, the question I attempted to correct clearly reads, "What term is used in the US to describe ice cream products distributed from traveling..."!

I would like this to be cleared up ASAP!

Sorry, but that's a bit too picky. The correction system is in place to correct actual problems with quizzes, and I don't think a quiz about ice cream mentioning ice cream trucks is a problem.

One of my teasers was recently rejected. I must ask you a question as to why it was rejected. First, read the teaser:

Tall Tales
Category: Trivia
Body: One day, you are approached by four men. Each man has a story to tell. Only one of the stories is true. Your job is to guess which story this is.

Mark claims that he has seen a real mermaid.
Joe says that he has witnessed a turtle the size of an island.
Ben states that he has met a live dinosaur.
Andrew tells of his encounter with a fire-breathing troll.

Well, which of these is a not-so-tall tale?
Hint: You might want to look at the teaser's category.
Answer: You should believe Ben. It is now thought that some small, meat-eating dinosaurs developed feathers and the ability of flight. They evolved into the birds we know today. Dinosaurs live on above our heads!

This teaser was rejected.

Reject: 5

Comments:
Your teaser does not work as presented. Birds being descended from dinosaurs doesn't make them dinosaurs. Also, this is only a theory, and recent studies indicate it is likely not true. [Insert this site] Additionally, most think that gators/crocs are the closest to living dinosaurs. Also, was there not a previously extinct fish that was caught, proving it was the oldest one? Please take time to well research something to verify accuracy before submitting. Thanks.

However, here is the problem: literally all of my other sources show that birds did indeed descend from dinosaurs! In fact, if anything, my sources show that the theory that "Birds are not dinosaurs" is the outdated one! Shouldn't the teaser maker use the fact that shows up in more sources? Could this please be cleared up?

Hi Pottercrazy. There is no backlog; there are only 6 quizzes in proofreading right now. It's just a matter of waiting for volunteers who are interested in proofreading.
