The Smarter Sex? Women's Average IQ Overtakes Men's

It seems that as men and women are becoming more and more equal, men's IQ are lagging behind that of women, although there is an overall increase in both genders. What do you think? Are women smarter than men?

Considering the data is primarily from 15-18 year-olds, the differences in development during adolescence likely have an impact on the differences in IQ.

Also, considering how statistics work, half an IQ point isn't of high significance.

Hmm.. ive never heard of that...

Math is fun, it teaches you life and death information, like when you're cold, you should go to a corner since it's 90 degrees there.

From an evolutionary perspective, I think it's not impossible. Men did all the work that requires physical strength back in caveman times, while women stayed at home, which might allow them to cultivate intelligence.

There certainly is a possibility. I was at first skeptical of your claim, what with the single chromosomal difference making genetic differences not too large. But then, a single chromosome is over 1% of one's DNA. Quite a bit. Plus men and women already have been proven to have different brains on average(sizes of various parts have differences, on average), so it's quite plausible.

While it's very likely men and women have different natural intelligence levels in various areas, on average, the data from the linked study is just not very good for proving this. IQ tests already are known to have major flaws, and the age group in the study is not going to be representative of the whole population.

Now none of us is genetically superior and during your teen years your brain cells can increase or decrease at an impossible rate, therefore I believe no sex is smarter. For reference move to the debate forum topic Girls or Boys (it has a poll.) the answer is neither, and this topic should move to the Debate forum although I don't have the power it will be. If this is offensive to either sex please I'm sorry, sometimes the truth hurts. And I believe this topic will lead to a debate as a woman will stand for women and men will stand for men, Either way you might not get a fair judgement, I am no master of the human mind but I believe what I have said is true. if you object just say so.

Despite the social equality between the sexes, biological differences remain, and those differences may lead to inequality in intelligence. The two sexes should learn to treat each other as equals in spite of the differences, not blind themselves to the differences for the sake of equality.

IQ tests already are known to have major flaws, and the age group in the study is not going to be representative of the whole population.
I agree with this statement. These limited studies do not show women being smarter than men, they show they can test better which, given the IQ test, means little, especially in the real world. There have been far better studies and tests that have proven a difference in average between men and women, but unless I recall incorrectly, the disparities in intelligence certainly aren't enough to mean much.

It would make sense, like previously, that women now have more access to prepare for such tests than men, or at least the men tested. Unless men just actually were smarter inherently before. Could it not simply be that these women tested had more privileges than the male subjects in this current society? I don't see why they would jump to the conclusion that women would be inherently more intelligent if men weren't before. [Not saying that women have it easier, there are still struggles, but it doesn't mean that men aren't less aligned with the skills needed in this society or vice versa.]

From an evolutionary perspective, I think it's not impossible. Men did all the work that requires physical strength back in caveman times, while women stayed at home, which might allow them to cultivate intelligence.
Why would staying at home promote intelligence at a time when sitting around would hardly promote problem solving asked in such tests? Men likely saw much from hunting and gained valuable insight and problem solving skills. Women did as well, as they did not just sit at home but also gathered nuts, berries, and other items that provided the bulk of food that early people were known to eat. Also, just because women sat around and "cultivated intelligence" doesn't mean they would pass on that intelligence physically! The evolutionary theory does not support Lamarck's mad science. Even if this worked in that society, it would not pass down to their children, let alone women from various cultures different and many years later.

and those differences may lead to inequality in intelligence.
Unequal aspects of intelligence that likely are in specific sections that are equally balanced by a section that the other gender is better at. I recall hearing that women are good at one thing but worse at another.

Well, there ya go. I think I ranted enough for a day.
