MOD: Hey, guys, sorry it took so long.
It's another day of mourning on our part, men. We lost two good agents. One we lost to our spies and one we killed ourselves, who we can only hope was a spy- but lets face it, with all of these murders, it's unlikely. It looks like the score is Genovia 4: US 0. We need to get our vengeance, men. I do believe El-ahrairah was getting somewhere though, the coroner found this paper balled in his fist:

Well for the record night timed out because when I logged in there was 4 minutes left.

I saw it with one minute left, so, yes, it timed out.

I am also up at this hour and witnessed Night timing out. But I checked and found no one more than a day away from the Braingle site.
Edit: I have to correct myself. MrSly has not been on for three days. However, his activity when he was here does not suggest wolfish, excuse me, spyish behavior. So I think our spies are playing like they are absent. (Of course, some could be as stupid as me. I once was involved in the game and was voting to protect the seer and playing as a human and didn't even bother look at my status until the third round of the game when I noticed I was a wolf. "So, that's why Night keeps timing out." Fortunately, nobody else could tell my mistake. And nobody would have known of my stupidity if I hadn't just blabbed it here. Anyway, something similar may have happened here.)
For those curious, yes, I checked this game to make sure I was a human, so I am not the reason for Night timing out this game.

Maybe a wolf isn't voting to throw us off?? I don't know just a thought.

The wolves seem to be aiming to eat people who are good at clue-solving (and El figured out that the numbers were coordinates). Admittedly it's a good strategy on their part, but...bleh.

Hi guys, I'm sorry I haven't been active, as I have been on vocation with very few time to go online. I'm going home tommorow, so I will be active soon, again, sorry :p

Yes, night timed out if my calculations are correct. Either a spy is trying to throw us off, or an inactive is a wolf.

Lunasimba, why the vote without posting?

I know. I'm having no luck with this one.
I'm also worried that we are spending so much time on the cipher that we are not focusing on who the spies actually are. And because the spies are killing off good cipher solvers, it is not helping us deduce who is onto their tails. I don't think I'm putting too much at stock in the night timing out, it is easy for a wolf to delay or not vote to eat to not clear anyone. I am, however slightly suspicious of people who insist that this must be happening, it would be an easy sell to convince us to vote for what would be a cleared agent.

I agree with Mocha (although, I do think it would be quite helpful to be able to solve the clue). Thus far, we have mostly been focusing on solving the clue, but to no avail (unless a spy has solved it and kept us from getting the clue). It would be nice to get some dialogue going so that we can get a better feel for who the spies are and who the agents are.
Unfortunately, I have been quite busy this weekend, and will continue to be until I finish my homework. However, I will try to make a post that outlines who may be suspects based on voting patterns, posting patterns, and whatnot.
(Ran the cipher through the ceaser cipher, but to no avail on any number (1-25), so we can probably rule that out unless it is a combination of that cipher and another cipher).

Skinny, I had the same problem, and I'm worried it could be double encrypted.

Yes, we've been pre-occupied with the ciphers, and haven't made much progress on nailing down suspects... And seeing as how the Spys are taking out the Agents who do well with the ciphers... I question whether the Spys got the clues and kept them from us, or if Agents got them and were just too scared to share, in fear that they would be the next one eaten...
I've been working on this cipher... I tried all the different ciphers as well... Hopefully one of us figures it out before a Spy/Wolf does...
If we don't get the clue, though, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to lay out what we do and don't know, and who may be under suspicion...
Edited to change "clue" to "cipher"...

I ran this through every cipher on Braingle that would let me, and so far nothing. Unless it's one of them that involves a keyword, in which case I'm not even sure where to start.
I agree, though, that we should focus more on discussion and less on deciphering. We could even go so far as to discuss the cipher very little, so that we could see who the spies will eliminate over the next night. I'm not sure if it would help us much, but it might be worth a shot.

Hey guys, I've been busy for the last day or two, but now I'm turning my attention to the cipher. Also, Kaipper what do you mean by discussion?
UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, I'm back, and now we have to decipher this!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, oh well, getting started on it, i'll keep you guys posted, (super tired)

I guess tuku was feeling sorry for me and made this cipher easy to translate. But I have a feeling there is more to it than the translation. For those of you trying to use some sort of cipher code, it probably will not work to try to get your machines to figure this out. There is an extra twist in the translation that takes the flexibility of a human mind to figure out (which is probably why I got it, being an avid cryptogram solver without the cheating of technology).
Edit: Since I will be busy today, and with 17 hours to go, I might not make it back before the end of Day, I am going to go ahead and make an SPV. Just a random shot, not a true target, my friend.

Luna also reacted rather strongly, I feel, to my vote on her last round. Mine was an SPV, but her reaction was as if she felt under attack... It struck me as a bit odd. Also, she hadn't posted until after there was a vote on her; that move always makes me suspicious.jpost: I'm glad you were able to translate the cipher! Hm. Maybe now Ceasar?
Nope. Still nothing.
I'm looking at frequent repetitions in words, like three letter words that could be "THE".
OGW appears a few times, and so does OGXXW.
TH _ _ E Same letter in the space. Anybody have a clue?
FYL also shows up. if FYL is THE, then since one word is FSTUYL, T _ _ _ H E. The most likely for this would be "TOUCHE", a french originated word meaning "Good point", coming in origin from fencing. Probably not right, though.
Still looking, G shows up twice alone, meaning it must be a vowel (I or A). OGW is out of the equation.
_GXXW shows up twice with O and F as the blank.
BRAINWAVE. What if OGW is SPY?
SP _ _ Y Anybody have a clue? Hm. No, that's wrong. No english words with X being the same letter.
BRAINWAVE II What is the code is coded so each letter's Ceaser increases 1 per letter?
Hi kcnoyzpb
Well, Hi seems promising. I might be onto something.
Or not at all. Help?

"This thaw took a while to thaw, it's going to take a while to unthaw." -George W. Bush, on liquidity in the markets.
For the clue, it's simply a case of the letters being different letters... For example, in the sentences, I would assume that "g" is equal to "a", since the only other letter that can stand alone is "I"...
So from there other letters equal other letters, etc, etc... I managed to translate it, but I still got back a "Sorry"... So either the translation needed to go further, or someone else got it before me... And I'm sure this will get me eaten tonight, but here's what my interpretation was:
************
My daughter was lost many years ago in her youth, she was stolen from a meadow.
Her hunger betrayed her in the dark halls.
And because of rules of old she is trapped in his walls.
She was found again but no man could save her, but then he made a deal with the cur.
Now the time is split between us and the story of our seasons is thus.
************
So... If this is supposed to be taken further, I don't know how... My best bet is someone translated it first... (also, "deal with the cur" was probably supposed to be "deal with the cure", but technically, there's no "e" on the end)....
All that being said... Sometimes I get suspicious of people who "Try" to solve the clue, but are always off... Sometimes it seems like overcompensation... Or people who try to lead the vote before discussion has really taken us in a specific direction... Cuz I feel like those people are A) trying to look helpful, when they're just leading us down a wrong path and B) trying to push people to vote for Humans by "fish" voting or randomly picking people for random reasons...
And frankly, we're not getting anywhere anyway... So I'm... I'm trying to go with my gut on this one... I feel like at least one of the Spys is someone who's active in this thread, and trying to be involved... Now nailing down which one that is... I also think at least one of our Spys is not as active...
Will wait to see what others think before throwing out names... But I think we really need to come up with something beyond the clues/ciphers, cuz in the end, that hasn't helped us at all, really....

Thank you for that, Faith. I'm also really hoping you don't get eaten for that bit of help. I have been working at it since it was posted and have gotten no where.
I'm thinking the answer is the solution to the riddle, I am not familiar with this riddle, and am currently on my lunch break so I don't have time to deal with it now, but I'll try after school. On that note, I have an interesting evening ahead of me, but I brought my notebook with me so I should have a chance to go through and see what my suspicions are. I think there is enough information about each player now for me to share my impressions and leanings.
I agree that I think at least one spy is very active (and thus eating people who are helpful)and at least one is mostly inactive (and causing the nights to time out), the question is determining which one is which!

K... On the off chance I do get eaten tonight, here's how the voting went through discussion for the first 2 rounds... Will also share my thoughts/suspicions, in case I'm not around next Round:
Round 1: Uloseha
Suggested Uloseha first: Elios
Leaned toward: WittyKitty
Tempted: Mocha
Seconded: TheSlyMrSly
Then: Witty and Mocha agree...
Full Disclosure: I did end up voting Uloseha as well...
Round 2: 4Wheels
First Vote: Mocha
Seconded: Kaipper
Round 3: Varies
Round 3 isn't done yet, but I noticed Elios was first to suggest Luna...
For now, I'm voting Elios...
I hate to suggest it, but I feel like our more inactive Spy might be TheSlyMrSly or Kaipper...
And our helpful Spy might be... Gosh, that one's hard... I'd hate to point a finger at someone who's been very helpful...

you will also notice in the translation that the letters "c" and "p" were not substituted. That was the twist I spoke of and was wondering if that had anything to do with the final answer to the cipher. Since somebody is already voting Elios, and as I said, she is not my real target, I am changing my vote to even things out more.

For all we know, the spies could have been seeing our progress, progressed themselves, and solved it. Dang.

I can't find the answer to this riddle anywhere :/
I agree that there's probably a more active spy and a mostly inactive one, but it's also possible there's someone who isn't posting and is just reading so they can eat the helpful people. It's hard enough to find the correct answers, so I don't really think anyone would go so far as to try and make up wrong ones...but I could be mistaken.

Woah, woah, ah, OK, look I know that I haven't been that active lately but that was because i was on a 3 day vacation to Los Angeles, and they blocked Braingle at school. Yes, I can see it's a little suspicious, but I just got back!, hence the new Avi. For the cipher, meh, I still got nothing. I agree though that we should really just mostly focus on discussion for now, but we should till give the ciphers a go.

bababawhomp: Hasn't participated much, questions what we mean by discussion, voted randomly in round 1, followed the vote for 4wheels
Elios: Agrees with voting for inactives, was the first to vote for uloseha, in round two, votes a second time for an inactive: Lunasimba this time. Votes luna again because luna responded defensively.
Faith: Followed on the vote for uloseha, voted innovative because there was no consensus vote. It surprises me that she is looking for a consensus to join, it seems very wolf-ish to look for a consensus to hop on to. I find that more suspicious than fish voting. In round 3, she defends lunasimba, which also intreagued me. I also thought some of the suggestions she gives could have wolfish motivations: "lay out what we know" might be to know who is a threat, she also suggests people are scared to share clues because they are afraid of being eaten, possibly really saying they SHOULD be scared to share. She says she is also suspicious of those who are trying (and failing) with the cipher, does she mean she wants us to only post if we get the answer? Again, these could all be the activities of an agent also, but all together seem suspicious. Faith, I'm not familiar with your playing style, this could just be the way you play also.
Innovative: Fish votes for faith, but is "upset" when someone fishvotes for him. Points out that Limerick was probably eaten for being good at the ciphers. Thinks outloud about why night is timing out, but the most suspicious was his post just a bit ago,
This really seems like he is trying too hard to be concerned when perhaps he was the one who solved it as a wolf??? I'm not sure, apparently I've misread his tone before, but that was how I read it. Between this overconcern and his defensiveness last round, he is on my suspicious list.
jpost: random vote with no post first round, then came on to defend it. SPV for Kaipper. I was curious about the comment:
I was wondering, what do you mean you and Innovative are on the same side? Are you saying you are both wolves? Do you know somehow you are both humans? Changes vote off elios to bababawhomp because didn't really suspect elios.
kaipper: Seems to be a follower. Changes to 4wheels in round 2. Also thinks the wolves are eating good clue people. Asks why lunasimba didn't vote. Doesn't have much to write about. Was offline during night 1
LunaSimba: has even less to comment on. defends inactiveness, votes for 4wheels, I don't know at what point in the process he made this change. Now, has only voted with no discussion.
Mocha613: I'll let most of you make your own judgement about me, but, I pushed for inactives and ended up being the 4th to vote for uloseha, also was the first to suggest the 4wheel vote. Seems suspicious because I have supported or pushed voting for two agents.
nicats: in round 1, defended her inactivity, in round 2 didn't say much, round three started the round, said something confusing, care to elaborate?
I'm not sure what you mean by your "trusty old fashioned way", or how it could have gotten you nowhere.
TheSlyMrSly: Second to vote for uloseha, works on the cipher. Is offline during night 2. Seems to unnecessarily defend self about inactivity, like he thinks he is in danger of being shot. Is this wolfish, or is this just sly?
WittyKitty: 3rd to vote for uloseha, points out kaipper being off line over night round, in round 2 votes for jpost for not contributing much, not very active this round due to HW.
So, where does this leave me? I think my top suspects right now are:
FaithDushku (with Lunasimba)
Innovative (but why would he have fished for Faith if both are spies?)
Someone less active: Lunasimba, Sky... I'm not sure.
I also have several thoughts as to who I think could be seer, but I see no reason to give the wolves any reason to eat them.
I think this leaves me with a vote for FAITHDUSHKU for now, but I am still feeling out ideas. I'm looking forward to reading peoples comments about some of the questions I have posed here.

Thinks outloud about why night is timing out, but the most suspicious was his post just a bit ago,
For all we know, the spies could have been seeing our progress, progressed themselves, and solved it. Dang.
This really seems like he is trying too hard to be concerned when perhaps he was the one who solved it as a wolf??? I'm not sure, apparently I've misread his tone before, but that was how I read it. Between this overconcern and his defensiveness last round, he is on my suspicious list.

I figure it's the latter, Innovative. BTW, it's nice to be on the same side this time.

Well i am going to go with a vote with my trusty old fashion way and see what i come up with. Well that got me no where. I need a few more rounds I guess. Darn...

To recap:
Voting Round 1:
4wheels voted for WittyKitty
bababawhomp voted for uloseha
El-ahrairah voted for uloseha
Elios voted for uloseha
FaithDushku voted for uloseha
jpost voted for bababawhomp
Kaipper voted for Innovative
Limerick voted for uloseha
mocha613 voted for uloseha
TheSlyMrSly voted for uloseha
uloseha voted for FaithDushku
WittyKitty voted for uloseha
Voting Round 2:
bababawhomp voted for 4wheels
El-ahrairah voted for nicats
Elios voted for Lunasimba
FaithDushku voted for Innovative
Innovative voted for FaithDushku
jpost voted for Kaipper
Kaipper voted for 4wheels
Lunasimba voted for 4wheels
mocha613 voted for 4wheels
WittyKitty voted for jpost
Voting Round 3 (thus far):
Elios voted for Lunasimba
FaithDushku voted for Elios
Innovative voted for nicats
jpost voted for bababawhomp
Lunasimba voted for Kaipper
Blue = Majority, Red = Eaten, Green = Shot
Thus far (as of 6:49 CST), it's a MoO this round.
Limerick voted in the majority against uloseha and was eaten.
El-ahrairah voted for nicats and was eaten.
Now, the spies most likely ate Limerick because he is a helpful player. His vote for uloseha probably did not factor into their decision-making (since uloseha was the majority vote and was human).
As for El-ahrairah, he is also smart and active. He voted for nicats. Now, El-ahrairah's vote could have played into the spies' decision as nicats is still in the game. If the vote was factored into their decision, either A) they were trying to throw suspicion onto nicats, or B) nicats is a spy. However, it is possible that the spies did not even consider this and just took out a helpful player. Something to think on, at least.
Lunasimba voted this round without posting. This is the third round in a row that someone has voted and not posted. Why do people do that? Just to look suspicious? Even just posting that it's a random vote or SPV is better than not posting at all. It shows that the player is at least paying some attention to the discussion.
Dinnertime, but I will be back on later to cast a vote.

Well usually its pen and paper and i i think wolves dont vote for wolves (mostly depends on activity or majorities) humans tend to random vote and luckily get a wolf. It usually works better when i tend to know who a wolf (if the mod tells us) is and can follow a voting pattern but was hoping something would stick out.
Otherthen the one huge rant about being voted for no seems to are at this point. I usually like to vote to help the seer but it is also a vote i feel has some kind of thought in it but this is a tough game to read.

well, this round is almost done, and for now, I have no idea who to vote for. I'll just random vote and go for Innovative, since no one has voted for him yet.
Also, yes, that is just me :p

I just noticed that Mochs posted right before me. Interesting thoughts. I agree that nicats has been somewhat cryptic.
Nicats, I don't fully understand what your most recent post is saying, either. If I understand correctly, you try to deduce who the wolves are by analyzing voting patterns and writing your conclusions down on paper, yes? Or were you trying to say something different? Also, your statement: "Otherthen the one huge rant about being voted for no seems to are at this point" doesn't portray a fully-formed line of thought.
At this point, Faith isn't really standing out as spy-ish to me. She seems to be someone who is trying to solve the clues as best as she can. Besides, I don't know why she would feel the need to share the decrypted clue unless she felt that it would help the humans. On the other hand, if she is a spy, she could have posted it so that her fellow spies might be able to solve it. Still, though, reading through all of the posts, Faith just seems eager to help.
Jpost, however, is striking me a little on the suspicious side. He was able to solve the cipher rather easily it seems, but he did not post what the cipher said. He could have just wanted to hide the information from the spies, but the majority of the players are agents, so I would think he would've taken a gamble on getting their help. According to jpost's last post, it appears that the solved cipher was not all of what Tuku was looking for in an answer.
Innovative strikes me as suspicious as well, but I have never played any games with him before (at least, not that I can recall). So, I do not know if this is standard behavior for him.
Lunasimba's activity is rather frustrating. No vote in round 1, very inactive/quiet in round 2 (apparently because she was busy), and a vote but not a post in round 3. Although, bababawhomp has been rather quiet, too (and bababa, by "discussion" we mean dialoging so that we can try to determine who wolves are by the content in their posts). The only reason I can think of for Lunasimba to ensure that she votes despite having enough time to post is that she is the seer. However, she did not vote in round 1, so I am thinking that is highly unlikely.
Mocha's playing style is as it usually is: helpful and active. She was on at the end of both nights, so technically, she could have voted at the very end of the round. However, Mochs is on a lot in the evening, so I do not find it that suspicious that she was on both times night timed out.
Elios has not been very active this round. He has been active each day, but not more than two or three posts per day. Don't have much to go on.
Kaipper had been absent for a couple of days when the first night timed out. As I said before, this could just be an attempt to frame him. Also, he has been quite active this round, and nothing really is standing out to me as spy-ish in his posts.
Sly had been absent for a few days when night two timed out. Again, the spies may just have not voted in order to incriminate him. He was fairly defensive about his inactivity, but I am chalking that up to him being a new player who is excited to be in a game where he isn't shot in round 1 because of his username.
At this point, my top suspects are:
Lunasimba
jpost
Innovative
Neither Innovative nor Luna voted in Round 1, so most likely neither one is the seer. Their votes do not indicate any hostility amongst themselves (although, if Kaipper is a wolf, then I would suspect that Luna and jpost are not wolves since they have both cast votes in his direction).
I know that no one wants to put anyone in a majority in case they are wrong, but at this point, there are 7 votes and 7 targets. Assuming that all three of the wolves voted, that would mean that unless the wolves voted for each other, there is at least a 3/7 chance that a human could be randomly shot. Also, when you factor in that the humans who have voted are not sure of their targets, the chances of randomly shooting a spy are rather slim (I would go into the statistics of it all, but that could be rather boring to you all). As it is, I am going to stick my neck out there and place a second vote for Lunasimba. I don't know if she's a spy or not, but I figure the chances of shooting a human in an 8 random vote situation are more likely than shooting a spy.
EDIT: Misspelled a word.

And yes, I see exactly where you are coming from and support that vote as well. However, I think at this point I'm going to hold my ground.

reply to mocha: The last game I played Innovative was in, one of the first the newbie participated in. In that game, I happened to be the seer, a rare privilege for me, and in one of the rounds, I divined that Innovative was a wolf. At that point, we were on different sides of the game. Since the likelihood of Innovative being a wolf twice in a row is low (although I do know it has happened at times), I was replying to a comment I made in that game that I regretted we were on opposite sides in the game. I hope that mystery is cleared up for you.
reply to WittyKitty: Yes, I solved the cipher, but I was not going to post it here because as I long as I knew it and it seemed others here did not, I had an extra edge toward guessing what the cipher meant, including any spies who knew cryptograms also. Alas, somebody else decided to post it instead and thus the advantage went out the window. Not that I am blaming FaithDushku, she just has a different strategy than me, obviously. Anyway, I received no clue, in fact no communication from our moderator, probably because I wasn't the first to send in the translation.
I wish I had some clear suspects that I could point to, but it is still too early in the game for me to piece together the identity of the spies (all of them). However, since lunasimba, from what I have read of the posts here, causes a lot of controversy by voting without posting, I am for getting rid of that particular argument, so once again I change my vote to lunasimba to ensure their removal. And there was no attempt for defense as someone else suggested.
Last minute edit before Day ends: I just found that the moderator did indeed send me a note but it was to say that I wasn't getting the clue. This comment is in the interest of full disclosure. See y'all Tomorrow (hopefully).

jpost, honestly, in a random system, i don't think that it matters if you are a wolf twice in a row, but i think witty should probably respond to that comment, since i know zip about statistics next to him.
