Round 7 Challenge
Treasure Chess

Part 1: Treasure
Earning the right to vote is something to treasure in this game!
For the first part of this challenge, you must collect enough booty to earn this

Each of the teams has at least one player who already has this award:

Team Alpha: unctarheel
Team Bravo: freakshow and talanpoe
Team Charlie: Elios
Team Delta: jpost
Team Bazinga!: Yuffie

These players can serve as coaches/mentors for their teammates, but awards already earned do not count towards completion of this challenge.

When you have earned this award, send me a PM, and I will give you Part 2 of the challenge.

Note: As always, dead players can participate in earning the right to vote for their team, they just can't vote themselves. Indeed, only people who have the award will be allowed to vote!

Reveal: sonic102 was human . One wolf and the seer remain.

Here's where we stand. The final wolf has been outed, and all the humans are anxious to shoot him. The only way that the wolf can win is if the humans cannot solve the challenges in Rounds 7, 8 or 9. Well, let's see if they can!

I will post the Round 8 and Round 9 challenges in the second half of this round. In the meantime, you can work on the challenge for this round.

The not-at-all-randomly selected Scapegoat for this round is buu441.
Buu, please cast your vote for yourself now. If you earn - or are extended - the right to vote, you may change it.

The Scapegoat has been extended the right to vote. The restriction against voting for the Scapegoat has been lifted. Players may now vote for the Scapegoat if they have earned the right to do so.

So, what happens for people not on your list who already have the award? Or for the people on your list, for that matter... Can someone do enough to earn it again and then PM you? Is this something where one member of the team can complete all the challenges and then extend (or choose not to extend) the right to vote to their teammates?

There is really no incentive to complete this challenge unless buu completes it. Just let buu vote for himself and wait for the round to time out. If he completes the challenge, then only two other people need to have completed it in order to vote for him.

If none of the humans can earn the right to vote, I will allow buu to change his vote and shoot whomever he wishes. Then we will play 2 more rounds very quickly shooting the scapegoats and eating sacrificial lambs, and the wolves will win!

Skinny, not true. Look at the last thing Giz wrote.

Who did I miss?

I considered this. I suppose it would be OK, if they can send me proof.

Yes, but the teammates would have to have the award in order to actually vote in Round 7.

You didn't miss anyone. For some reason, I thought I had already earned it, but I was mistaken

So wait - those who already have the award are disqualified, right? The award is for reaching Level 30, so to prove that they've reached the level again, would a screen cap count?

So, this time it seems to be backwards - humans would be better off helping out Buu to win this challenge, so that we can actually vote to shoot him & end the game. Otherwise, anyone who earns the right to vote will have to shoot a human and if Buu can't earn the right to vote, he'll be able to switch his vote off himself (which he may opt out of doing, but it won't matter if there are votes in for someone else).

At this point I would say earn the right to vote but don't actually vote until/unless Buu receives the right to vote. Right?

Yuffie, that seems to be the case about earning the RTV.

Sure, a screenshot of a completed level 30 would work.

Sorry, I realize my question was redundant - I'm having an unusual-busy day at work, so I'm a bit distracted.

buu441 wrote:

What did I get wrong?

- Until/unless you get the right to vote, no one can vote for you.
- If you don't earn the right to vote, then Gizzer will let you switch your vote (at the end of the round) on someone else, so you don't get shot.
- If you earn the right to vote (or are given the right to vote) then we can vote for you & it doesn't matter who you vote for.

Can someone point out what I'm supposed to be missing?

As I understand it from gizzer's post unless/until you get that award you can't even be awarded the right to vote.

so of buu doesn't get that award he can't be extended the right to vote.

This also means I am basically useless this round.

Oh! That sucks... well, alright then. Might as well earn the right to vote just in case ^_^

Edit:

If none of the humans can earn the right to vote, I will allow buu to change his vote and shoot whomever he wishes.

Wow I've been out of it, sorry - so if a human CAN earn the right to vote, then Buu's vote on himself will stick. And earning the right doesn't mean we actually have to vote (as stated earlier in the game), so if at least one human can earn the right to vote, the game will end this round. That sounds more doable

For those who've been waiting, here are the Round 8 and Round 9 challenges. Solve either (or both!) and you will earn the right to vote!

Round 8 Challenge
Lost in Translation

Oh dear! I was working with a sheet of paper filled with one of my favourite kinds of challenge. It was a hot day, and I had several fans going, because the air conditioner was on the fritz. I must have been too close to one of them. Suddenly, the sheet hit the fan! Now there are pieces of shredded paper all over the table. Can you put the pieces back together correctly, decipher them, and also figure out which term doesn't belong?

kieł kött kun ный muff nağı pôb roz wien yás zevk

Round 9 Challenge
Final Round

Last round! To the victor go the spoils!

If you are a brainiac, mister, you should be able to find the
country that will complete this series and earn the right to vote:

Oman, Chad, Peru, Mali, India, Sweden, Canada, _______

I am still slightly confused regarding the role the Round 8 and 9 challenges play with the acceleration of the game. What exactly do they do?

ETA: And when are round 8 and 9? It almost sounds like they are part of this 48 hour "day" and the later 8 and 9, if necessary, are just quick placeholders.

I think the Round 8 & 9 challenges are there so that anyone who can't achieve the award in Pirate's Booty can still have a shot at voting.

Also, the game will most likely end this round, so it gives us a chance to try to solve the clues Gizzer planned out

Buu is no longer able to change his scapegoat vote off of himself, so I think we got this in the bag!

Edit to reply to Limerick's Edit - As I understand it, she's given us the Challenges early, but won't give us any hints to solve them (?). So if the game does enter into Round 8, we'll still have to solve the challenge in order to vote.

Yuffie is mostly correct.

Players, including buu, can solve any of the 3 challenges to earn the right to vote.

So the round 8 and 9 challenges don't require the award and allow voting now? Or they allow voting in the actual round 8 and 9 but have to be solved this round? Still kind of confused xD

Oh sorry, I wasn't clear in what I meant - a few humans have earned the right to vote, so Buu cannot use the option Gizzer provided (where, if no human earns the right to vote, he can change his scapegoat vote on himself to another human).

Limerick wrote:

That's how I took it. Round 7 is the two parter (Award + 2nd portion) but Round 8 and 9 are completely separate of Round 7's requirements (and are also separate of each other).

That is correct. Players who don't have the award can earn the right to vote by solving these challenges. (Or by earning the award)

Limerick wrote:

If the game does not end in this round and continues into Round 8, I will provide instructions, based on who solves the challenges. If play does continue, though, anyone solving the Round 8 challenge will already have the right to vote in Round 8. Solving the Round 8 challenge now gives you the right to vote in both Round 7 and Round 8. Solving the Round 9 challenge now gives you the right to vote in Rounds 7, 8 and 9 - should it go that far!

SPOILER WARNING!

THE COMPLETE SOLUTION OF THE ROUND 8 CHALLENGE IS BELOW.

Okay, the decoded text formed by combining the text provided to form full words, put below for reference:

ar basa brød bullar cai Caws чер er fal fe gul in kay
kieł kött kun ный muff nağı pôb roz wien yás zevk

wienerbrød: "pastry" in danish = 'danish pastry' (wein+er+brød)
kiełbasa: "Sausage" in polish = 'polish sausage' (kieł+basa)
köttbullar: "meatballs" in swedish = 'swedish meatballs' (kött+bullar)
Caws pôb: "rarebit" in welsh = 'welsh rarebit' (Caws + pôb)
muffin: "muffin" in english = 'english muffin' (muff+in)
черный: "black" in russian = 'black russian' (чер+ный)
zevk kaynağı: "delight" in turkish = 'turkish delight' (zevk + kay+nağı)
arroz: "rice" in spanish = 'spanish rice' (ar+roz)
gulyás: "goulash" in hungarian = 'hungarian goulash' (gul+yás)
caife: "coffee" in irish = 'irish coffee' (cai+fe)

Finally the odd one out, as the only non-comestible...

Falkun: "falcon" in Maltese = 'Maltese Falcon'

The solution above will allow any player to obtain the right to vote this round.

ETA: Team Bravo has extended the right to vote to Team Bazinga so, buu is now an eligible target. Vote locked for buu441.

Anyone made any headway on Challenge 9? I have looked a bit, but not found much. Nothing on the site seems to play in with it from searching, though, we all know how easily I may have missed it. I noticed we go first 4 four letter countries, then a five letter, then 2 six letter countries, so, maybe a seven letter? Awful lot of those though...

This teaser seems to tie the four letter countries together with IRAN being the only country not mentioned, but nothing to tie in India, Sweden, and Canada. Nothing's alphabetical, Oman is not number 1 in anything I can find... Barely mentioned on the site. That's what I have for now.

ETA 2: Oh, and credit goes to talanpoe for the actual explication of the translations, mine wasn't quite as pretty. (We solved the challenge just about simultaneously strangely enough, though we wouldn't have had the full understanding of the solution without eachother's cooperation xD Go teamwork!)

ETA 3: Somehow I missed my customary ETA text which has now been added above

Round 8 Challenge
Lost in Translation

All remaining players have earned or been extended the right to vote.

Solution:

You didn't need the hints that I had prepared:

Hint #1: Knock on Norwegian wood! Czech mate!
These are references to similar translation challenges in WITW 3 and RTV 1.

Hint #2: Here's looking at you, kid!
This is a well-known line from Casablanca, said by Humphrey Bogart, who starred in the 1941 version of The Maltese Falcon

ar basa brød bullar cai Caws чер er fal fe gul in kay
kieł kött kun ный muff nağı pôb roz wien yás zevk

wienerbrød (wein+er+brød) = "pastry" in Danish = Danish pastry
muffin (muff+in) = "muffin" in English = English muffin
gulyás (gul+yás) = "goulash" in Hungarian = Hungarian goulash
caife (cai+fe) = "coffee" in Irish = Irish coffee
kiełbasa (kieł+basa) = "sausage" in Polish = Polish sausage
черный (чер+ный) = "black" in Russian = black Russian
arroz (ar+roz) = "rice" in Spanish = Spanish rice
köttbullar (kött+bullar) = "meatballs" in Swedish = Swedish meatballs
zevk kaynağı (zevk + kay+nağı) = "delight" in Turkish = Turkish delight
Caws pôb (Caws + pôb) = "rarebit" (literally baked cheese) in Welsh = Welsh rarebit

Finally the odd one out, as the only non-comestible:

Falkun (fal+kun) = "falcon" in Maltese = Maltese Falcon
