ROUND 2!

Psych question with a twist:
The question is based of off the movie "Office Space" (1999) and "Dilbert", which was a comic strip (1989 - Present) and television show (1999 - 2000). Assume you are a boss in real life. Would you rather have Bill Lumbergh or the Pointy Haired Boss as a middle manager?

Just like before, feel free to answer or not.

This boss does seem to sound a lot more female than male. I'm not sure why though... however in saying that, buu's post about the clearing of all those who say they wouldn't copy and paste was a bit suspicious, don't you guys think? I don't know, it just seemed boss/rattish, I'm not sure.

Don't think the boss is Yuffie nor Elios. My two main suspects from last round were babyjuice and fame, both of whom are fired - thanks boss! I will put a vote for buu right now as I have nothing else!

EDIT: Once again, never even heard of these shows, so I will bow out of answering the optional question this round.

Never heard of Office space, but I do read dilbert occasionally. I think the boss is young. Can anyone get a read if the boss knows dilbert and office space? Im having a hard time.

I'm voting JJputz for now. One of my top suspects.

I agree with koin, JJ is one of my top suspects. The whole "annoying" thing sounds a lot like him with CG, although she isn't in this game.

I can actually see JJ as boss the more I think about it. Can we get a majority, maybe?

I'm not sure, and of course it could be a ruse, but it doesn't seem to me that the Boss is familiar with these shows/comics. While I don't watch "The Office", I have seen "Office Space" and read "Dilbert" - it's kind of required once you enter the office work force. Perhaps we're dealing with a young Boss. However, seeing as the majority of players this game are what I would consider "young", that doesn't help much.

I think I would rather have Bill below me as a middle manager. I mean, he's a real piece of work, but he gets results. Pointy Haired Boss is kinda clueless.

I don't have any suspects of my own. I am always wrong when I try to read a male/female tone in the memos. I can sort of think of people I don't suspect as Boss (GA, Yuffie, Har), but that's not anything to vote on. Sooo, I'm Ok with clearing JJ this round; joining the majority.

i had put my vote on jqpublic at first, but changing to JJputz to help form the majority.
Anyway, i dunno, but the answer to the psych question feels like the boss is not familiar with either of the shows. dunno why. The answer just seems to give off that feeling.

i am unfamiliar with either show as well, so i wont be a proper judge. anyone else also thinks that the boss aint watched either show?

I've seen Office Space & read the Dilbert comics (although I've never seen the TV show): They're both horrible bosses, but Limbergh is more "cruel" and hard to talk to; Pointy Haired Boss is more of just an idiot. I'd rather work UNDER PHB but ABOVE Limbergh.

I agree that the Boss sounds young. Office Space is a cult classic, but the younger generation seems to have missed out on it. S/he sounds like they've read (or seen) Dilbert & know that they don't like Pointy-hair and therefore decided to go with Limbergh for that reason. Although admittedly, I'd rather have people think I'm an insufferable jerk than a simple idiot, so maybe that's where the boss was going with it.

JJ is very blase regarding us voting for him, so I highly doubt he's our boss. Still, It's good to clear people so I'll join the majority. I'm too sleepy to come up with solid suspects myself, but I'll try to come up with something productive tomorrow

I think Buu was simply stating that the way the answer was phrased sounds like someone who doesn't know the characters. You don't have to be familiar with a subject to be able to tell if someone else knows what they're talking about.

I'm voting for JJ. JJ is certainly one of the people I most suspect. I can cite several reasons:

Plagairism. We're learning about that in English, which literally IS English in Hawaii.

Apparently, he tried to respond to the whole plagiarism thing without saying anything constructive that could lead to the revelation of the boss's identity. That is one sign that he's either the boss or the rat.

Secondly, he said book and fame were mandatories without explanation. I can see how one can come to that conclusion (book did not state her vote and the memo says there were two mandatories and one non-mandatory), but JJ's lack of explanation sure makes him suspicious.

Thirdly, the boss memo really does sound JJ this time (although admitting that he isn't the perfect boss is slightly out of character but hey, this is WTB, so he probably wouldn't let his true self show.)

My conclusion: Most likely, he's either the boss or the rat.

@Yuffie: saying 'I'd never copy' when you did copy makes you a real hypocrite. If the boss really says this to win, he or she may win a WTB game, but he or she loses his or her trustworthiness.

Edit: By the way, now that we know the boss was copying in the first round, I'm taking back what I said about buu being cleared in the first round. The second-round memo still isn't sounding very buu-ish, however.

I had this weird dream last night (where a lot was going on on here apparently) and everybody voted for JJ and everyone but me, Elios, and JJ were left. It was kind of random. But anyway, there's been a lot going on, like I said, and JJ is just seeming more and more suspicious. I agree with most of the things posted, all of the stuff about JJ being suspicious. I'm interested to see what he'll say if he gets back on before the round ends. I'm sticking with my vote, even though I may be lemming.

I agree in every other aspect in life, this would be hypocritical. But, if you cut out everyone whose ever lied in WTB or WWG, you'd have no one to play with - Lying is part of the game. Have you ever heard/played the card game BS? (Stands for a bad word) In it the entire game is trying not to let your friends catch on that you're lying about how many cards you put down (ex: 4 Ace's, 3 King's etc) Saying you put down 3 King's when you really put down a King, a 2 and a 4 is lying, which in normal circumstances is a horrid thing to do, but is the object of the game. Otherwise, we should be able to ask every single player what their role is & the Boss & Rat would HAVE to tell us (same thing in the WWG).

That doesn't make the game fun. I'm not condoning copying or lying, I'm just trying to explain that whoever the boss is, they are not a bad person just because they copied without giving credit. They would be if they did it on a school paper or something, but in a silly game like this - I don't think we should judge anyone's character based on an online game strategy

That being said, you guys seem to have a lot of solid reasonings for thinking it might be JJPutz. My vote will stay on him to help clear him, but I'm not sure he's our man. I've got to do some actual work but I promise to analyse the game & come up with some theories myself.

EDIT SO AS TO NOT DOUBLE POST!

Okay, I read through the rounds again & I have a few "iffy" vibes from some of the players but really I'd believe anyone was the boss at this point (well, I don't suspect a few people at all) my main suspect so far is: Blackest_Red. I don't have anything too solid, but I'd like to voice my theory & get feedback; maybe I'm misreading things or maybe we should try for a majority on him next round:

First, his writing style seems odd to me, like the kind of Perfect English someone would have if English was their second language. Am I crazy for thinking this? (I post examples below) He also doesn't add anything to the conversation as to whom the Boss may be and his end of round posts just seem.. weird...

So I screwed up! It is hard working under these conditions and I said that I will never be the best boss. There were two lazy workers and one who was just so annoying I could not keep her around. I will leave you to figure out who was which.

I would like to think that they would think of me more as Bill because I really dislike that pointy haired boss and I would not want to have anyone think that I am like him.

Youre definitely on to something, yuffie. I have a few suspects, JJ and blackest red being included. Its a little too late to change majorities, but next round we should definitely be looking into that.

Have you considered that blackest submitted those posts after submitting the memo, thinking that started the round? Seems possible to me.

Agree with elios about the copying thing. It isnt really plagiarism if you dont publish it for your gain. Lying is a part or the game. It is a part of any game like this.

Edit: Remaining suspects in order of most likely to be boss:

Blackest_Red
JJPutz

buu441
Izzie
Oldcustard
JQPublic
Elios

I would almost leave custard, JQ, and elios off the list completely, but I don't want to dismiss them quite yet.

Okay, so it looks like we have some decent ideas here. Are we still clearing JJ this round, and then B_R next? Probably, as we only have 58 minutes left as of this post. I think.

Also consider, it's still possible, even though I think it's extremely unlikely, that Yuffie is the rat, and JJ's still the boss, and she's trying to get votes off JJ.

I don't think this is very likely, though, so don't take offense to my speculation, Yuffie. Just trying to cover all the possible angles, and I'm a cynic. Not really, but when it comes to this game I like to be sure.

No offense taken! It does kinda sound like I was trying to take the votes off JJ, but I promise that's not what I was intending - I'm always worried I'll be fired and so I like to voice my opinion before the next round starts

I read it like that the first time around, too. I think JQ was just responding to me and used the "royal" you, or whatever it's called. basically, replace the "you" with "one" so "Saying 'I'd never copy' when one did copy, makes one a real hypocrite". At least, that what I think he meant since I've not copied anything (without giving credit, like when I linked to the NBC thing).

I was wondering the same thing; does the mod have to 'end' the game? I think it happens automatically. We do no that SirHar did not log on at all today, so he should definitely be fired (unless he's the Boss LOL Does the rat HAVE to vote? I forget...)

Nope, the rat can't even vote. He/she just has to hack the network to get the voting results, but there's no mandi for rat.

Another thing...Blackest_red has gone strangely silent, despite posting at like 4:30 in our WWG...

I don't know what this implies, if anything (maybe he just forgot about WTB?), but it's an interesting point. It might just be the power of suggestion, but BR (as I am now calling him) is just seeming like the best candidate.

Also, I know I'm overly active. We get computers at school, and most of the time I'll have a Braingle tab open, and I'll just click over and check every once in a while. It's all project based (school) so it's easy for me to get on.
