Attendance Challenge
If every player posts one valid post (not double, not spam), then every player will receive 5 points. If it fails, then those who did post will receive 1 point for participating.
This Challenge lasts until the end of Round 2.
Keyword Challenge #1This Challenge lasts until the end of Round 2.
If any player posts a valid post with the secret Keyword in it, he or she will win a free item. The word is a potentially everyday word. (So, it's not 'hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia'.) Word lists do not count. The word must be found in a sentence inside a valid post. This has a good history of promoting activity, so let's see some interesting stories! (Update: remember that the post does not have to be about the game. Also, any tense of the word will work as well [*-s, *-ing, *-ed, *-like, etc. will all do.) This Challenge lasts until the end of the game.

I was thinking the same thing Max.
Not a clue how to interpret the memo and psych. If Stewie was in the game, with the spelling and answer I'd vote for him, but as he is not, I have to find someone else to suspect.
I would say a male, probably young (but that is most here).
I'd really be interested in knowing where the system of time is currently being used. The only place I can see time not being important is perhaps in lesser developed countries where people are still living in huts and there is no real industry to of which to speak.

Maybe the dog only brings the ball back because he thinks you like throwing it.

haha seriously that post gave me cancer http://knowyourmeme.com /memes/that-post-gave-me-cancer
Anyways, I think the boss is obviously trying to distance themselves from using good grammar and spelling in the last round (which really isn't much of a lead) but random vote for HABS.
Voting list so far:
max318 - dawnrising
srbaxi - HABS2933
(add as you go)

I don't actually agree! The type of wording and spelling used here is deliberate - not autocorrected or even effectively shortened. To me, it looks like the boss purposefully replaced words like "that" with "dat" to lead us off track.
It sort of sounds like someone tried to imitate a thug and didn't really do it too well..."Now git on wit' da game" looks like someone's trying to imitate Hagrid but didn't actually read the books...

Changing my vote to srbaxi for putting a greater light into that monstrosity of that memo
funny how he spells some as sum and some leaving me with an odd feeling that dis guy, as the boss would say, isn't good and is a joke this should clear HABS at least.

Unfortunately, we cannot learn anything from the firings as there are some loops.
100ra- did not post a vote likely mandatory.
Faith511 Posted only 1X during the round only to say she had no idea on the puzzle, and never sated a vote - likely a mandatory firing.
lissiclown Stated a vote for 100ra who was fired himself so we learn nothing new here. Although she did make several comments about liking the idea of naming the hours and that the time zone thing "made sense". Were I the boss, I'd have kept her around based solely on this so I could point to it later to cast suspicions on her. Perhaps the boss is less experienced and did not think of later rounds this early.
minakodeb Did not post at all, and probably did not vote. Likely another mandatory firing.
Will have to wait until later in the round to cast my vote as I currently have no idea where to place it.

A few people aren't being useful today! You have to work or have to go. Now get on with the game! And some of you don't realize that my time system (except timezone) is already a used system but I just made it twice as good. And sure, all countries can have the same time - we all have the same months! It's July and it's summer for some, winter for some, and even no seasons for others. If it's "rosebud" hour why can't it be day for some and night for some?
Psych Question: If you could go anywhere in the known universe, where would you go and why?
That's a very hard question. Do you know how many times I typed and deleted my answer? I'm finally going with "Gliese 667 Cc". Why? It could be our new home if we find the right atmosphere. And I better submit this now or I'll delete and redo this question again...

Obviously the boss wrote like that on purpose., why point that out? I am just saying it seems mre like a young male would attempt that patter more than an older player or a female of any age.
BTW - who is "Hagrid"?
I'd suggest we form a majority this round - Let's clear (or fire) srbaxi

Funny how you mention hagrid but hagrid isn't even close. Hagrid is smart big guy. Well not smart but educated enough to spell with out using street terms.
BTW you should buy divination cards. The clues are more fun then something that might back fire.

I didn't mean Hagrid in characterization, but Hagrid as in accent.
fictionalley.org/authors/swissmiss/HTWHD01.html
And true about the div. cards but that's still a possibility with the miracles and some of the other miracles possibilities look like they yield better returns.

I'm glad you reminded me of that. I fixed a couple of errors with the list. Some of the values changed (they only increased, actually).

Whcih you already said you felt were an attempt to mislead - so should not be taken into account.
So, if you learned this from Google, would it not follow that the boss may nave seen the same thing? I don't doubt the boss is smart enough to operate a search engine. Just saying having heard of a star (or cluster of stars) does not mean you know anything about it. I have heard of Alpha Centauri (A and B) but other than it is the closest star (and it is a binary star) i know nothing else. But I know enough to toss it into a conversation.
You can say that, doesn't make it true....
I have never seen any of the movies or read any of the books. I tired to read the Philosopher's Stone, but couldn't finish it.

I think the memo is very forced cliche "ghetto" and also, pretty poorly done. it was not consistent and the tone changed from uneducated to texting shorthand and back again a couple times. that makes me think it was written by someone who doesn't have to read that type of writing regularly, so probably not a teenager.

As a teenager, I've had to read quite a bit for school, so I wouldn't base it upon that tiger. The higher up in school I got, the more required reading I had to do, so I agree with HABS statement of a "younger" person.

not have to read as in have to read things like books, I'm pretty sure most people on this particular website read regularly, weather for work, school, or fun, as it is a website designed for people that enjoy riddles and thinking. Have to read that, that being things written in the style the boss was copying, like texts from lazy teenagers, and essays from people that don't care if they don't pass a class, and notes written by kids that want to irritate adults. (and yes, those are actually reasons some of the kids in my classes write like that, really, its crazy) I don't think it is someone who has to read mangled, shorthanded sentences often.
also i realize that i could have made my first post a bit clearer, and will fix that now.

The memo certainly sounds like it was intended to disguise the identity of the boss. However, I don't have any idea who the boss really is.
It bothers me when I see tax money wasted on signs telling deer where to cross the road.
It bothers me when I see tax money wasted on signs telling deer where to cross the road.
I definitely agree with tiger's analysis of the memo - though the boss tries, it doesn't really seem like "texting" style to me, which could indicate someone who isn't a teenager.

Reading over the posts, I am thinking that tigerlily and srbaxi are the boss/rat pairing (though not sure yet which is which), they seem to be "backing" each other's opinions a bit.
I will stick with my vote for srbaxi and suggest we form a majority this round as the random votes don't help us as much as a 50% would.
We have 16 players left, assuming we all vote - that means we need 8 votes on the boss to fire him or her. Since the boss and rat can claim votes, we need 10 people to state votes for the same person to ensure that we have 8 people voting that way.

Then again, HABS, you initially agreed with max, but that doesn't prove that either of you are the boss. I don't really see how two people agreeing with each other makes them the boss/rat - we were simply pointing out that the memo seems like an unsuccessful attempt at ghetto...
In my opinion, the boss is someone who isn't a teenager any more, but is also an inexperienced boss - maybe new on braingle or new to WTB.

Even people who don't live in the US could have been exposed to a Southern accent? You yourself mentioned that you travel a lot.
I know there's no reason for you to believe me, but I'd like to say that though I do live in the US I've never seen/heard anyone with an accent like the memo, and I don't travel a lot seeing as I'm still young.
Regardless, I think we should move away from over-analyzing and develop a game plan - though I'd hate to see a round wasted, I'm perfectly fine with you guys clearing me, just make sure you get a solid majority so the round doesn't go to waste

A solid majority is only needed to fire the boss, not to establish innocence. Any player fired did not vote for the boss, so we can eliminate people based on the firings as well.
This is why it is VITAL we keep track of who voted for whom each round.

Obviously the memo was purposely done. Last round the boss wrote proper. Faking accents can just mean exposure to other cultures. As for writing like some book character, if they write improper English, anyone else writing improper English would be similar? And the boss can think obviously, and if the boss didn't know that planet already, can operate a search engine. Pretty sure anyone here can. Maybe the boss is young, because he/she found the last question hard, too many things in the universe and can't pick? But then everyone here only knows Earth, so outer space is new for everyone.
I'm voting srbaxi to get a majority. But does it sound like she's eager to be cleared? Rat maybe?

what added bonus? i don't understand.
I was also considering using two div cards if rat decides to show his identity for a win/win.

I have often wondered that and have said as much in many games. I don't trust anyone in the game 100% until I have cleared them in my own mind by not only this game but by their behaviour in other games as well.
Even if we know who the rat is, it does nothing as a good rat can point out the boss early on (on a "mild suspicion" or "gut feeling") so we discount that person as a suspect later. (Well we know X is the rat, and he suspected Y, so Y can't the boss). To me, the only person who benefits from the rat's identity is the boss (so he knows who not to fire).

Maybe the dog only brings the ball back because he thinks you like throwing it.
For the clue what about tigerlily. She was difficult to understand last round when her computer messed up but I will keep looking. Miracles are abusive I see.
I'll just wait until I can buy 3 divination clues at once.

I now when I moderate games that is how my clues are - they seem to make no sense, often point to multiple people, but when the game is done and you go back over them, they all fall into lace and you have the "AH-HA" moment. I think this mod is much the same.
I know I suggested TigerLilly earlier, and she could still be either the rat or boss, but doubt the clue points that way.

Just to show you guys how precise I am and how I crave order, here is a picture of what I am doing right now (aside from checking the game periodically):
I am baking cookies, and CANNOT allow more than one colour M&M to be in the same cookie. I even have the piles sorted alphabetically. I sort everything like that. My cupboards are the same way. All packages are sorted with the ENGLISH side out. I fix stuff on store shelves if it is not faced right (English side out).
No way I could survive in the chaos of no specific time (I am still puzzled by that, if there is no subset to an hour - how long does an hour last? If you tell someone to meet you at "Rosebud" when during that time should they show? How long do you wait for someone? Currently I don't wait more than 10 minutes past the agreed upon meeting time.
I know SRBAXi, I am "protesting" too much, The "too defensive" argument will rear its head now I am sure. Trust me, I am not the boss and I have my reasons for the "defence".
I play to win!

I will vote on Hermy, since the boss may want to blend with the people.

She lives in a place with multiple timezones too, making her a bit suspicious.
I don't think it's that useful but I think HABS may be the rat.

Clue 3 could be a teacher or a student he was taught or he taught him. polychrome could be multiple colors on a flag or profile pic. I think alpha is the Greek letter alpha and the greek langue is based off of European and middle eastern countries and Nirtobasel is from Egypt, a student, and has a polychrome type picture

Are there any limitations on a Golden Quill Psych question? Just wondering...like if I asked: "If someone asked you in a thread post during the next round of this game if you were the boss, would you say yes?"
And then even if they said no, we could ask everyone and they'd all say yes and whoever didn't would be the boss...since they have to tell the truth?
I don't know of any limitations I have now... however, psych questions are not meant to be future-oriented.

Nice one, SR! If Jar allows it you should definitely do it. Although I think the boss would obfuscate the answer.
First polychrome example is Greece. Alpha is Greek, but scientists use it. Or is it a double meaning on the web browser "Chrome", since it's related to computers? Perhaps difficult to understand means either Greek? Maybe critical is related to critical theory?
We shouldn't buy soi many div cards.
Ally or die. That is the motto of the new, REVAMPED version of Alliances I currently have. Alliances is a social game to the style of WWG and WTB. To learn more and/or play, PM me or check the public talkboxes. Come for a fun game!

I'm going to interpret such a question to fall under that rule, and thus, it is disallowed. Sorry.

I thought that since HABS talked so much during the first round, she was the boss, but she doesn't fit with the Psych Question;but, since she tries to drop all charges, and obviously draws too much attention within game, she may turn out to be the rat.
And Hermy Granger has these things together, not each individually, making her a little bit suspicious.
Since it's the second round, this guess is more educated but still random.
And max, The polychrome thing may mean the country flags, not the profile pictures.

So do: HABS, CountryGiirl, Kaipper, Krugger, max, tiger, and Srbaxi
And what have I done to seem rat-like? Besides, I thought I was the boss?
I will vote on Hermy, since the boss may want to blend with the people.
Hermy changed her vote when other people did.

She lives in a place with multiple timezones too, making her a bit suspicious.

I don't think it's that useful but I think HABS may be the rat

I was scrolling through the posts to see what you are talking about in nitrobasel's post and couldn't find it. Then I noted iit was delelted. This could be construed as odd - what did he say that he felt the need to delete? OR did the MOD delete it for a violation?
I would post something explaining why I deleted it.

Just so it doesn't get misconstrued later, I'll point out that I deleted a post because my phone randomly reposted something from earlier.
I think Greek is a really strong lead, but I still don't see yet how it could be connected to anybody.

I've never head that as a reason to suspect someone before.
As the rat, I'd point out people I feel may be the boss, and why, not say why someone is NOT the boss. I was the rat in 2 recent games . HERE AND
HERE . IN the first game the Boss and I both made it all the way through and the boss did not receive a single vote the whole game. In the 2nd game, the boss was obvious to all form the beginning and I didn't stand a chance.
and EVERY player in the game has a multi-coloured flag, so this does not help us at al.

Dawnrising and genesect did not post so we fail the challenge
Back to OCD. Sorted 1000 cards in alphabetical order at least (munchkin cards) and then my dice I have a slot for oly 10 at a time so I have a system for placing them in.

Darn! We failed the challenge...oh well, guys, good try! We definitely made some solid progress this round.
And hopefully Kruger isn't fired, because I don't think her purchase kicks in until the start of the next round

KRUGERGIRL14, your purchase request occurred after this round ended, and so the transaction will process at the first moment of Round 3.
Again, a friendly reminder to players that posts don't count for points in between rounds, purchases wait until the start of next round, and the Keyword Challenge cannot be won in between rounds.
Unless I get a valid explanation from Genesect soon, that person will be ModFired for not posting. dawnrising, I'd also request a statement from you as well in my inbox.

If they did not post, there is a good chance they also did not vote. They will be mandatory firings which doesn't help us much.

Ugh...it's so discouraging when people are active at first and then become mandatories.
If they do not end up being mandatories...I think one of them might be the rat trying to slide under the radar.

That is very true. We have already used Rat Trap, so clearly the rat can't be completely inactive. It's possible, though, that we have an inexperienced rat...there is more than one new player in this game as I recall.

I was rat my second game out had no idea what I was doing. Luckily people were very patient with me.
EDIT: Just checked, 7 players have played fewer than 5 games.

wonder what was in that deleted post by habs...
anyway, i'd just like to mention something about how jarmihi's clues worked in the previous games. the set of clues, you can group them into different categories. like we have already established one category as greece/greek. all the other clues need no fit with them. and then, each group generally points to a part of the boss's name, not to the boss directly. when we gather all the parts together, we get the boss.
atleast that's how the clues worked the last time i played an ASR game, so unless he's changed the working, it should be similar this time.
Leo: Hold on. This is gonna hurt. Coach Hedge: I was BORN for HURT!!

I know you think you are on to something Buu, but why, especially after pointing it out a few posts earlier, would I do the same thing?
I don't quite understand what you mean. Could you give an example. How many clues go together?

it generally depends. like one game where jayo was the boss, one set of clues referred to yoyo (the toy) and another set referred to the blue jay, i think (i don't remember that set totally).
@mod: do you have the links to ASR games earlier than the 5th edition?

Do any of the players who have been around longer have the link to the database of games that used to be kept? Is it still active?
