Gemstone
If you like pretty gems that sparkle and shine,
I invite you to dig in my virtual mine.
My first is purple, fit for a king,
My second is green where Dorothy did her thing.
My third is red, July's birthstone as well,
My fourth is seen in strings and is found inside a shell.
My fifth is hard, pure Carbon and expensive to buy,
My sixth is Crocidolite, striped like the big cat's eye.
Seventh is two words, a man-made fake of April's stone,
Eighth is very dark and found at Lightning Ridge alone.
Now take from each gem, one letter in its turn,
And you will find the stuff for which even the gods yearn.

The gems areAmethyst
Emerald (Emerald city - Wizard of OZ)
Ruby

Diamond
Tiger's eye

Taking the first letter of Amethyst, second of Emerald etcetera gives

Good teaser. I got most of the gems, but couldn't find the connection.
I found the connection, but still could not get all the gems.
Great teaser. I figured out all but the last two. But I guessed from there. I liked this one alot.
That was hard. I'm so dumb I only got two of them...
Jun 26, 2004
I like that one. I got the ruby cuz its my birthstone, the emerald because I've seen Wizard of Oz about a million times, and the tiger's eye one because I am a tiger nut. The other ones had me
I think this is the most AWESOMEST riddle ever, especially me and my sister got it right
Fun! But very, very easy.... I skipped everything and looked at the question... knew the answer right away from that, without looking at the clues... then, looking at the jewels only verified my answer ;-)
'' good one!

this was WAY WAY WAY too hard for me!! i only got diamond and ruby, but none of the other ones. then, i couldn't find the connection, and i don't know what ambrosia is!
This was great fun to do. THUMBS UP! keep up wid the gd tzrs
crystalstar, don't feel bad... I got as many as you did.
This puzzle was a real journey. I couldn't figure out Tiger's Eye because I've never heard of it. Number eight was semi correct - I got Opal but not Black Opal. But 6 letters was enough to put Ambrosia together!
i liked it! very creative, you made me think!
Fabulous! Bravo!
Easy but cute. Good one.
very good puzzle i didnt kno the fake diamond...
Great teaser!! I enjoyed this very much.!!!
I love jewels so this was easy for me ! Very good teaser!! I liked it a lot

Like I_am_the_Omega, I got the answer before anything, and then the connection as I looked at the first few ... but I could only work out "ruby" "diamond" and "emerald" ... I got "tiger's eye" and "black opal" in part. Very enjoyable!
i got the gems but not the answer this riddle was really fun to work on though..thanks for the brain exercise
haha that was good ....keep the good ones coming!!
The "god's" yearn for correct apostrophe usage.
I found this one hard. I got all but one gem..but when it wasn't the first letter of each or the second letter of each..I gave up. Now I'll know to keep trying..great job
Very easy teaser, but very nice!! It's going into my faves - nicely done!!
VERY NICELY DONE!
WOW GMoney you're really paying attention. But did you see the second line under "ADD a COMMENT"?

Great fun. Thanks
i got all the gems but not the word (i was thinking i'd have to take the first letter of each word, not the 1st then 2nd, etc.) good teaser. i liked it a lot!
yeah...so I didnt get it ...but good one
I THINK IT WOULD'VE HELPED IF I KNEW THE NAMES OF THE BIRTHSTONES!
Jimbo...this was a very good one!
I liked this teaser and got all the answers I didn't take forever like I usually do I love astrology, gemstones that goes with birthdays! Easy for me! cool

Please make more like this!!! Sooooooooo luved it!!!!! =)
I knew the answer before finding the gems (use to love mythology), but it was fun finding the gems and verifying! If anyone's ever had ambrosia salad, it's just not the same as what the gods wanted! Good one!
i knew ambrosia after i figured out only a few of the gems, but i got all the gems except one!
(I cheated and looked up 2 of them tho ops

Great job. took some big thinking to make that one. I love it! Excellent!
That was an extremely good teaser. Keep it up
One of the absolute best teasers I've read on this site. Keep up the great work. Love it!!!!!
I loved this! its so cute and I found all the gems but couldnt figure out the connection... more please!
It was fun I got 50%
I love Ambrosia. Good teaser, stumped me
For me it was really easy, but it was still very awesome! Keep it up, I'd like to see more like this one!
I'M BACK FROM BEING BANISHED U MISSED WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A FEW "GOOD" COMMENTS.
THIS WAS CUTE, BUT BU TAI HAO LE (NOT TO DIFFICULT) KEEP WORKING ON IT. MAYBE SOMETHING USING THE GODS, CERTAINLY LESSER KNOW THAN BIRTHSTONES.

hey imurray i think that is the nicest comment i've seen you make.........keep up the good work. and it was a very goooood teaser. send in more. imurray why don't you sent in some? love to see what you would send in
Fun and very clever! Liked it alot! GMONEY, if you're going to correct punctuation in your comments, at least get it right... Plural and possessive would be "gods'" -- the apostrophe after the "s". But who cares? It was a great teaser!
A little thinking was needed for this little gem of a teaser.
Unless you were a jeweler, how would you expect anyone to solve it.
I got most of the gems, but no way could I fiture out the answer.Good teaser. BTW Welcome back Imurray.
Same experience as Kinergy's! Got the answer Ambrosia right, though. A good teaser.
Not a gem guy, still only missed 2, but answer came to me anyway. very clever though
I really liked how the teaser was a riddle and a word scramble. Great fun!
Nice!
good fun
The information gives away the answer, for me. But, it is still a dynamically awesome teaser. Keep up the good work!
Great teaser! I figured out the answer without getting the last couple of gems, so I got some satisfaction and learned something, too.
GMoney--Sorry, you are the one that is incorrect. Why the apostophe? There is no contraction nor possessive indicated.I would not comment on an error in a teaser, but since you brought it up first I guess it's all right to comment on yours. And I mean this in a friendly way.
Good to have you back, Imurray. I missed you.

Good to have you back, Imurray. I missed you.
Way too dfifficult for me, but I definitly enjoyed reading it!
JCann is correct. I tried to put in a jab (above) but I'm sure my dry sense of humor fell flat. I think we all agree, per the rules, to leave the grammar and puct. coments out, and give feedback on the teaser. For the record, though, no contraction, no possessive, no apostrophe. For what it's worth, GMONEY's comment is a year old! Again, AWESOME TEASER!
I missed 50% of them,so I didn't get the answer. I think females are more tuned in to the gemstones.
The Gemstones were easy eacept for the black opal and I looked it up. But I did not understand the instructions and tried to use the first letters of each word for the answer. but it was great brain exersize figuring out the stones. thanks
This teaser's directions were somewhat befuddling, but worth the effort, even if I missed two.
I see the bad penny is back and still all mouth. As they say, every Eden has its snake.

Wow...that was cool. I liked it a lot. I don't know why, I didn't come close to getting the answer, but when I was done with it, I was like huh, I like this!
I think this was pretty neat and well thought out GOOD JOB
Great teaser! Not difficult and not too easy. A perfect start to my morning... and learned something new because I had never heard of black opal.
This was good. Fun.
Too expensive for me.
This one was very fun. Great job. I didn't get all of them right, but I got most... Very fun! One of my favorites!
I knew all the stones, how? I don't know. Good Teazer
Delightful! I knew ambrosia. I make a low-fat kind all the time. Most of the gems were easy but a couple stumped me. Had to use a resource. Keep writing great teasers like this. I learned a few new things.
Really enjoyed this one. Even learned something (didn't know about lightening ridge or Black Opals)! Keep 'em coming.
Woohoo, I got it!! That was fun, not too hard (maybe because I have the female advantage, like locutus13ds mentioned above). I got all the gemstones (cheating once by looking up Lightning Ridge, and I wasn't totally sure about the sixth so I looked it up and confirmed my guess of Tiger Eye, without the all-important S... but the hint about food for the gods immediately gave away the answer to me; I didn't even have to figure out that it was the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. letter of each word (each "in its turn" -- good hint on that!)
Very well done. Cheers and thumbs up (well one thumb anyways, since I'm cheersing at the same time!)

Great job, got all the gems, but didn't follow the instructions regarding the letters so of course only close in horseshoes and granades. But it was fun. Cool remarks Imurray. We love you.
humm.....that was very interesting....good one though
I sort of got it... but at first I got 'Adbrosia' because I can't spell Emerald.
I got "Ambrosia" just by reading the last line, but I didn't get any of the actual gems. Great teaser!
A great teaser. I knew most of the stones just reading through it. But I knew what the god's longed for from a semester of greek mythology in 6th grade English class. I like the way you didn't take the first letter of each word but the letter that corresponds with the number of the word. A very interesting concept. A+++++
Didn't get black opal but figured out ambrosia just by the gods clue. Great job!!
Not too hard, not too easy. Black opal also stumped me, but I still figured out the final answer. Really enjoyed this one.
Nice one, keep 'em comin'!!!
I got the gems, but couldn't figure out the answer; mostly because I'm ready to go to bed, and didn't want to take the time to write out all the gems. I figured there was a system with those words. Would I have figured it out???
Good one!
Good one!
I got as far as "ambr" then could not remember tiger eye and thought the dark stone was sardonyx. I should have know it was ambrosia from the gods all wanting it and figuring out that much of it anyway. Oh well, I liked it.
Unfertunately, crocidolite and Tiger's Eye are not the same gemstone, crocidolite being a form of asbestos, and Tiger's Eye being a form of quartz. Play fair, puzzle-maker.
lukasiwicz= read again=it was never said they are the same=it said like a tigers eye. So now who was wrong?
I love gems! Had to say that.
Best quiz EVER I couldn't get any of them tho
I did this one before and did it again tonight. Figured out ambrosia despite the fact I got Topaz instead of "Tiger Eye" My sister's birthstone was Topaz which is yellow also. I also knew ambrosia was food for the Gods. Fun even the second time around.
Um, actually, the man-made diamond is called Cubic Zirconia (not zirconium) but other than that, a great teaser!
FUN!!! Started working on the gemstones, got a few, got hung up on a few. However, since I knew the letters had to spell "Ambrosia", it made it easier to figure out the ones that did not jump right out at me..
Tiger's eye is not crocidolite, it is a silica pseudomorph of fibrous crocidolite. Other than that it was a good enough teaser, although if you are into Greek mythology (like me) you only need the last line and to know that it is eight letters long to figure it out.
Fun and challenging teaser; I got ambrosia right away and did not need to work the teaser to figure it out. I got all but the last two gems.
I liked this teaser. It didn't make any sense to me at first because I misread the directions and tried using the first letter of each answer. I reread the directions and got it without too much trouble. I didn't know the last clue, but I had the answer by then.
Wow Jimbo. How did you construct this?? I love themechanism of finding the gemstone names, and picking successive letters, but to wrap that all in meainingful rhyming couplets? Wow. Just... wow. Very impressive.
