There was once a servant with his own farm. This servant grew a delicious crop of apples. One day he decided to take some to the king. The king's castle is surrounded by 7 layers of walls and each wall has a guard. Each guard stands by a gate.

The servant reached the first gate and said, "May I go through to show the king my wonderful apples?"
The guard replied, "You may, if you give me half of your apples."
The servant then said, "Fine, but you have to give me back one apple." The guard agreed. The servant did this to the rest of the guards and finally got to the king.

The servant still had the same amount of apples that he had started with. How is this possible?
