I couldn't have solved it if I hadn't taken algebra. m + 2m +4m = 35 thus m = 5 5 children, 10 men, and 20 women.

No algebra needed. The ratio of women::children::men is 4::2::1. 4+2+1 = 7, so there are 35/7 = 5 men, 2*5 = 10 children and 4*5 = 20 women. Super easy head problem. 8)
