You are making a certain type of cake that requires half a cup of water. Unfortunately, you only have one that fills up to 1 cup, and another that fills up to 3 quarters of a cup. How can you measure half a cup?

Oops  You can also pour three quarters of a cup into one and pour it into the other, then fill it up again, pour one quarter into the other to fill it and get half in the three quarter cup. My bad

Ya, fill the 3/4 cup, empty into 1 cup cup, that way the 1 cuppcup has 3/4 water. Next, fill the 3/4 cup and the pour into the 1 cupcup until full and 2/4 will remain in the 3/4 cup.

you could fill the first cup half way, ya know. Measuring cups have lines for a reason.

Alternatively, since you are making a cake, and you don't need to have 1/2 cup in a container...you can fill up the 1-cup...and then pour that in the 3/4-cup and pour the remaining 1/4 cup in the bowl...then do it again... 1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2

I got the answer as it was posted but then read that there are easier ways! I like the comment above mine. Since it's a cake, you just need 1/4 twice which is easy. :)
