A function table is a table of order pairs that follow a rule. A rule tells how one number is related to another. In this brainteaser, I will give you a function table (sometimes called an input-output table) and you need to figure out what the rule is. I will give you an example.

Example:

Input(A) Output(B)
7(A), 9(B)
13(A), 15(B)
1(A), 3(B)
3(A), 5(B)
9(A), 11(B)
The rule in this example is add 2. Now here is the real deal. Find out what the rule is.
*This one will be harder than the example. Way harder.

Input(A) Output(B)
6(A), 4.5(B)
23(A), 17.25(B)
9(A), 6.75(B)
10(A), 7.5(B)
45(A), 33.75(B)

Answer:

The rule to this function table is multiply A by 3, and then divide that number by 4. If you want to see it in an equation, look below.

(Ax3)/4=B
Another way to write it:
(A*3)/4=B

Or you could simply subtract 25% to get the same answer. That's what I did, and it wasn't the rule you said it was.

simple, but fun. And subtracting 25% seems like the same thing as mulitplying by 3 and dividing by 4. Thanks for the teaser.

i did 6X = 4.5 X = 4.5/6 X= .75 Multiply the input by .75 and you get the output. thanks for the teaser!

I had a different rule.If you divide A by 1.33333... you get B. :D

It is A/1.333333333333333=B to be exact.
