Brain Teasers
Lion and the Unicorn
Alice came across a lion and a unicorn in a forest of forgetfulness. Those two are strange beings. The lion lies every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the other days he speaks the truth. The unicorn lies on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, however the other days of the week he speaks the truth.
Lion: Yesterday I was lying.
Unicorn: So was I.
On which day did they say that?
Lion: Yesterday I was lying.
Unicorn: So was I.
On which day did they say that?
Answer
As there is no day when both of the beings would be lying, at least one of them must have spoken the truth. They both speak the truth only on Sunday. However, the Lion would then be lying in his statement, so it couldn't be said on Sunday. So exactly one of them lied.If the Unicorn was honest, then it would have to be Sunday - but previously we proved this wrong. Thus only the Lion spoke the truth when he met Alice on Thursday and spoke with the Unicorn about Wednesday.

yay! first time I ever got first comment! oh, and I got it correct.
Truthful unicorn is the answer.
It was fun, but I think it could have been more challenging with more characters. Good job, all the same.
Piece of cake!
Easy but good.
I read this one in a book a while ago. A very good and simple teaser.
That was confusing ? ? ? ?
Oh it was fun to...........confusing but fun.
At first I said Sunday but then I thought about it and went through all the days. Thursday was the only one that fit. That was fun!
Nice teaser. Pretty simple once you draw a quick chart, but still fun! I think the answer could have been written a little more clearly though.
WHAT????
I worked it out thusly:
If the Lion is telling the truth, it must be Thursday. If he's lion, it must be Monday.
If the Unicorn is telling the truth, it must be Saturday. If he's lying, it must be Thursday.
So it's Thursday. The Unicorn's a-lyin', and the Lion isn't.
Super easy. The way you explained the answer was much harder to follow than finding the answer was!
This was ok to figure out. BUT the answer was )(^%$. Nowhere in the "answer " does it say that Thursday is correct answer. It cloudily implies that is answer.
I didn't like this one very much Sorry just didn't
i figured it out
I agree. Teaser was good, but it could have been clearer in the answer that Thursday was correct. Oh and I got it right.
easy and fun, thanks
Easy enough to work out, but where did Alice come from all of a sudden?
I just had to be methodical. Not the hardest knights-and-knaves puzzle variant I've encountered, but well-made nonetheless.
Easy teasy. It is good to have an "introductory" logic puzzle in the mix. The liar/truthteller genre can get quite confusing in tougher incarnations. Since this is aimed at logic noobies, I wish the solution was presented more clearly.
I had a hard time with this. Logic problems are my downfall! It takes me too long to figure them out and I lose interest. I finally figured this out, but when I read the answer, I was more confused!
Under the heading, "Answer", the first thing I expect to see is the answer, which, for this puzzle is "Thursday". Then, if the puzzle-maker wants to belabor the point by adding a somewhat confusing explanation of why "Thursday" is the answer, he/she can have at it. But first, just bluntly and plainly, give the answer. Thank you.
