Sam loves to communicate by using rebus puzzles. This is sometimes confusing for other residents of the university dormitory. One night, this sign was posted on Sam's door:

NIOILTE
FIRE

The other residents have no idea what Sam is up to. Do you?

NO Comment! Kind of a stretch!

A stretch is good from time to time; keeps the brain from cramping up. Here's the explanation for this rebus that I wrote down before checking the answer: Burning the midnight oil. ("OIL" is in the middle of "NITE" and is on (over) "FIRE, and hence is burning.)

I knew what he meant, but I couldn't think of the exact phrase. Good one - clever and made me think! Everyone, have a great day!! :)

Wow!!! That was one of the best this year. I spent at least 10 minutes but I got it. Thanks for a good one. :D :D

Wow! I didn't even try, and I would not ever have gotten it anyway.

Almost a good one. Too bad you spelled night wrong.

Pretty good. I see how it could seem a stretch, from "on fire" to "burning," but that's a fairly straightforward alternate meaning. I'm not sure if there are rules for rebuses that prevent this, but I'm going to allow it.

Good one, but I think it should be spelled "night".

It took me a long time to figure out...

Great Rebus. And ... worthy of comment (in several dimensions). 01. "nite" is spelt correctly. As we (the BunnyBunch) have - upon occasion - said, "look it up". It is recognized as a legitimate word as an alternate spelling of "night". And ... Rebuses (the best ones) often call for a "stretch" (lateral thinking, cluster thinking, "out-of-the-box" thinking"), etc. If you don't "get it" right away that doesn't mean it's a poor Rebus. It might just mean you are a limited thinker. Don't despair. The world is not coming to an end because you don't "get" a Rebus right away. Keep trying. Once you attain - if you ever do - the "creative stretch" breakthrough you are sure to enjoy a wonderful world of word-play. Also ... click on the name of the submitter (Gizzer) if you want to see some more GREAT Rebuses. bro Jay

"no longer exists" Seems that's what would have happened to the original BadBunnee (our Dad) if he had persisted before he was kicked off Braingle. AND ... this is comment is being submitted by me because - evidently - BadBunnee02 (bro Jay) can no longer post comments. I'm adding this. Gizzer and Dad were very close Brainglers. They shared a lot of Rebus-development ideas. Wonder why she got nixed? Anybody got any clues? Jaye
