On September 11, 2001, a coordinated terrorist attack using several hijacked commercial aircraft was carried out in the USA. Two of the targets were the two main towers, the iconic Twin Towers, of the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. These matching 110-story majestic buildings were unmistakable landmarks along the New York skyline. That morning each tower was struck by a separate jet causing massive damage. Subsequently, 2 WTC, South Tower, collapsed to the ground at 9:59 am, less than an hour after being hit, and 1 WTC, North Tower, followed at 10:28 am, approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes after being hit. The collapse of the Twin Towers shocked people worldwide, and sadly nearly 3,000 people, mostly from within and around the towers, lost their lives in the attacks. It is a tragic event that many people will never forget, and one that changed lives forever.
