The Home Insurance Building (1885) in Chicago is no longer considered the first skyscraper.

Architects now consider the "Equitable Life Assurance Building" (1870) in NY to be the first.

Got the last one wrong. I always heard that Delaware was the first state. I guess I heard wrong.

Katamaster, the Delaware was indeed the first state, butt he question asks about the first state that was not part of the original 13, and that is Vermont, the 14th state.
