Famous Americans 3How much do you know about the famous Americans of the United States? |

Earthsong05, please double-check your biography on Einstein. I learned that the patent office was in Berne, and that he was a Swiss citizen (he'd renounced his German citizenship around 1900) when he produced his seminal works (1905). He got his Ph.D. that year from Zurich. Perhaps the confusing part is that his papers were published in Germany, that being the hot-bed of theoretical physics at the time.
Your basic point is still correct, though: Einstein's famous works were not as an American. He didn't come to the States until 1921, the year he got the Nobel Prize for his contributions (all based on the 1905 works). He moved to the States in 1932-33 some time, and became a US citizen in 1940 (without renouncing his Swiss citizenship). Most of his notable work as a US citizen was as an international humanitarian.
Very good quiz, I especially loved the comments on this one. I only got 7 right, but I was a little confused on a couple of them. All in all, I loved this one.

Hmmmm. Exception taken to #3 (your opinion is your own, of course). Otherwise an excellent quiz.
#10 was to vague jesse owens also defeated nazis during what they called the nazi games
Carlos 16, I must tell you, I'm surprised the proofreaders let this go through. Maybe you took suggestions you shouldn't have. Like so many before me said, in your opinion(and many others), Elvis is the King. Will he always be? You can't answer that. Who know's what Samuel Clemens called himself when he wrote Tom Sawyer? He's was an egotistical author and could have called himself Becky for all we know. The question should be "What was S.C's pen name. Einstein should not have been included.
However, all that being said, I really do like these types of quizzes. Keep it up. I got 10/10 because I answered what I thought you wanted. As many of you may know, that assumption has caused lower scores in other quizzes. I'm glad to see someone flying a Mexican Flag submitting quizzes on Famous Americans.
peace out !!!!!!!

If people would read the questions correctly, there would be no need for comments such as Earthsong's and Norcekri's. Of course, there are always those who want nothing more than to show off! On another note: How did you get away with the phrase "he'll always be" in question #3?? I agree with doehead. Considering how incredibly nit-picky the proof readers of my quiz attempts have been, there seems to be a double standard here!
Regardless, it is a very good quiz, Carlos16. Enjoyed it. 10/10 ![]()
Ditto to shay88 and to doehead. You should make your questions more clear. I thought it was Jesse Owens.
9/10 I missed #10.
I think that question was perfectly clear. The Olympics in Berlin was held in 1936, not 1938. Jesse Owens also didn't defeat just a Nazi hero, but the runners from other countries as well. The question implied a one-on-one competition, which track isn't, but boxing is.
Thank you, Bastet, for clarifying something that should have already been perfectly clear!
Have we got a lot of nit-picking posters!! I love Americana, and am proud of my 10/10, even though as a mature adult I would have been ashamed of anything less. I don't always vote, but this got BQE from me. Thanks so much for this quiz!
hahahahahah - I love reading these comments!
Carlos - you are a tricky bugger!! I too got fooled by the Jesse question! NICE QUESTION!!!!!!!!! I gave Jesse as the answer and did not click until after I had read the comments - I should have read the question better!!!!
the only "negative" comment I have is that this question: #8 Who was commander in chief of all the Allied Forces in Europe during World War II?
It probably should read: #8 Who was commander in chief, after 1942, of all the Allied Forces in Europe during World War II? - Thats when he took the role - prior to that I assume it was someone else.
Nice quiz - hope you do more!!
Thanks for the interesting quiz, I scored 5/10, not bad for a South African!

Issah - of course, you realise the Americans only came in at half time in WWII (as they did in WWI) so couldn't have been in charge before! Prior to 1942 (and 1916) it was Britain and the Commonwealth and the rest of free Europe against Hitler (or Emperor Wilhelm)
