C+ but I sure had fun!

I learned some interesting things. I read a lot of 'classic' (i.e., old) SciFi, and I've often come across references to the "Heaviside layer." From the context, I could guess more or less what the authors were talking about, but was totally baffled by the name. I wondered if early 20th Century physicists thought the ionosphere was was made of heavy particles that reflected radio waves. Well now I know that the name "Heaviside layer" is just an artifact of a name. Thanks, cnmne.

My mother gave me "Laughing Boy" years ago. got the answer right because I remembered the author's name on the spine of hte book. It's been sitting on my bookshelf forever. I guess I should read it.

Boy, talk about the lowest common denominator! It's like a pit most of us fell into.

I agree with most comments - difficult but worthwhile because of the explanations. Also an interesting variety of questions. Thanks.
