#1   Param thought to start at the very top, in the state filled with snowcapped mountains, the Dal lake, beautiful houseboats, the famous Gulmarg area known for its picture perfect landscape.

#2   He moved on to the state of turbanned gentlemen who term themselves 'Sikhs'. Strong and vibrant, these men feast on large glasses of buttermilk. Maize flour bread and a lovely dip made with mustard leaves make their winter meal.

#3   The next state that Param visited was characterized by beautiful desert landscape. His main destination in this state was the pink city of Jaipur followed by a tour of the forts of Jaisalmer.

#4   The next state on Param's list was one that was made famous by Mahatma Gandhi as he hailed from here. The Mahatma's Sabarmati Ashram was one of the places Param wanted to be sure to visit.

#5   The next state Param wanted to visit housed the commercial capital of India, which is Bombay, now known as Mumbai. The famous alphonso mango, known as the king of mangoes is widely grown in this state.

#6   He moved on to the state whose name in Indian literally translates to the "Central State". This state boasts of great industrial prowess. The largest city in this state, Indore, is a big center for the textile industry.

#7   The next state Param went to was tucked away in a corner in the northeast. One of the smallest states of India, its capital is Kohima. It also has the distinction of being "the most Baptist state in the world".

#8   Param absolutely had to visit the state whose name translated to "the land of snowy mountains". This state's capital is Shimla, which is also a major tourist destination.

#9   The next state on Param's list was the birthplace of several religions, including Buddhism and Jainism. Its capital Patna was in ancient times Pataliputra, the center of the mighty Nanda dynasty.

#10   A state that was and continues to be home to many famous poets, artists and writers, Param found that this state was also where the national animal of India originated from.
