I am an American Heart Association Basic Life Support instructor and question 2 is indeed 'Make sure the person did not choke on anything'. It entails looking in the mouth for any foreign objects and then rescue breaths.
Actually, the first thing you should ever do is ask the person if they need help even if they are unconcious. If they don't respond, then under law you can consider it a yes. If they say no nad they are about to pass out, then wait for them to pass out and ask them again. Do this so that the possibility of getting sued because you may have done the wrong thing is diminished.
Number 1 is VERY wrong. You send someone to call 911 to get EMS on the way. There is a chance that you cannot get the item out with the Heimlich maneuver. You then ask the person if they are choking. If the person responds yes or is grasping their throat, then first try to assure the person that everything will be OK. This is one of the scariest things that will happen to you. If the person is getting ANY air or coughing, DO NOT DO ANYTHING. Coughing is the most effective thing to dislodge the food. If the person is coughing, then they ARE getting enough air. Otherwise do the Heimlich maneuver. ![]()
i got number six wrong...i said to put ice on the burn, and the answer was 'not put butter on the burn'.. got 7/10 ![]()
Where is that restaurant 'la appetite'? i never go there
, still it's a good quiz, everyone should do it ![]()
very interesting quiz! I think everyone should learn cpr and first aid, it does come in handy! ![]()
i enjoyed this quiz, very nice...
And I am going to stay away from any restuarants named La Appetite ![]()
only 7/10...gee, I thought I would get 100. Oh, well Thanks for the quiz
9/10 I thought you were supposed to perform the Heimlich maneuver if someone was choking.
Overall good quiz, but i did have a problem with #5... How does a little girl staying at a ski lodge with her parents manage to get frostbite?
Great quiz!!!! #6 I would put the ice on first to cool the skin below the temperature that it can continue to burn. Butter of course will not do this.
Good quiz and good explanations. However, I still disagree with #2 and #3. For #2, the impression that I got was that it assumed you were a witness to the the event. In that case, the next step should be to check for a pulse/heart beat.
As for #3, the Heimlich maneuver, though technically not part of the term "CPR", is taught in most (if not ALL) CPR courses. So I think the question could/should have been worded better to make it more clear.
Also, #7 is a strange question (IMHO...)
I disagree with #6. If the chef is on fire, the first thing you should do is put it out! Also, ice IS a good idea on a burn.
And #10. The cut is minor. Get the kid off the carpet before he bleeds on it. Otherwise his mother will kill him. (Rescue, Breathing, bleeding, ... ) This falls under rescue. ![]()
