Eternally Joined
Riddles are little poems or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme, but this is not a requirement. With pointed fangs I sit and wait,
With piercing force I dole out fate,
Over bloodless victims proclaiming my might,
Eternally joining in a single bite.
What am I?
With piercing force I dole out fate,
Over bloodless victims proclaiming my might,
Eternally joining in a single bite.
What am I?

Posted by frank0001h on May 30, 2002 Thought it was a zip-fastener. No way a vampire bat joins anything, eternally or otherwise. Stapler is good. |
Posted by club on May 31, 2002 I'd have to agree with Mogmatt...there is nothing eternal about staples or staplers |
Posted by WizardMagus on Jun 19, 2002 Vampires eternally join you to your fate of being a vampire... |
Posted by glennyboy02 on Jul 03, 2002 It couldn't be a vampire because the riddle says 'bloodless victims' humans bleed when bitten! I got it but i had to think for a while, good teaser! |

Posted by sk8babe on Jul 17, 2002 Gd points made by Wizard Magus and Glennyboy02!! And I gotta agree with Mogmatt16 and club!! It's a confusin one but that makes it gd!! =ŽS |

Posted by dumbell on Aug 20, 2002 A VAMPIRES VICTIMS ARE BLOODLESS ONCE THEY HAVE BECOME VICTIMS, THEREFORE IT WOULD HAVE FITTED THAT PART OF THE PUZZLE. |
Posted by dsquared on Aug 22, 2002 Good one... I thought it was a power cord ie. plug into the wall, but I guess that's not exactly eternal either! |

Posted by watupchicks on May 06, 2003 honestly i thought it was a vampire or sumthing along that sort but then i thought to myself thats way to easy and it cant be the answer so i kept on guessing and im like naw they might be a dumb person and might make it a really easy answer, then when i saw the answer i was like im the dumb one now, good teaser |
Posted by frankenweoburger on May 06, 2003 I thought it was teeth...except for the eternally joined thing...good one. |
Posted by rckergrl87 on May 06, 2003 first of all, you put "what am i" after describing the thing as it and secondly, a staple doesn't hold for eternity. Infact, i just stappled and unstappled something. But without the mistakes it would have been clever |
Posted by rocketboy on May 07, 2003 VERY NICE! at first i thought it was a snake, then a cat, then a teacher, then a pencil. Stapler. Good one. |
Posted by DaRealestDon on May 10, 2003 How come you guys are always like "great teaser" or "good job johnson?" If everybody just said what they really thought the world would be a better place. I am DaRealestDon |
Posted by cnmne on Apr 01, 2004 First, I got this one right away. That does not necessarily make it easy. I have been equally stumped by supposedly easy teasers. Second, how about a little literary lattitude when writing riddles? Some critics are a little too picky about the use of some words, like eternally. I would guess that most riddles can not be taken literally, word-for-word. Even Tolkien referred to teeth as white horses on a red hill (The Hobbit, Riddles in the Dark). |
Posted by jacintan on May 06, 2004 What were the chances? It could have been anything! I thought it was going to be some made-up creature, and i also thought there were customs to stop people just making up jokes and putting them on braingle. |

Posted by tamjp on May 07, 2005 The comment above mine is too funny! This may sound silly but I thought is was a fork |
Posted by timilee on May 07, 2005 I must agree with the MANY people that think the clues don't work. Misdirection is when it leads you away, not when it makes a false claim. How does it dole out fate??? Dole means: a giving or distribution of food, money, or clothing, etc. How does fate fit here??? How does "it" have might??? A stapler has no might on its own. How is it eternal??? Staples are removable or the pages can be pulled apart??? With better clues, this would be really clever. But only one of the clues work. Plus, the title is not accurate. I can't give this a thumbs up. sorry |
Posted by Trickster1992 on May 07, 2005 I thought it was a snake, before I saw "bloodless" (and then I didn't know what on earth it was until I saw the answer). |
Posted by beachbabe1218 on May 07, 2005 that was dumb. whoever wrote it made it sound like it was a snake. if you give clues that are all bad, NO ONE is going to think of a stapler!!!!!!!! |
Posted by Araldite on May 07, 2005 I was thinking of nails but I discounted them because they are not eternal bonds. A staple is better than nails, but if I had thought of it I probably would have discounted it for the same reason. |

Posted by vikingboy on May 07, 2005 Some of you all have to take a chill pill. Every riddle takes some latitude in regard to poetic license. Even though I thought about staples, but passed on that to find something with an everlasting bite, it was a decent riddle. |

Posted by brain_dead on May 07, 2005 i think it would have been better if i knew what in the world a slaper was. |

Posted by thestingrayboys on May 07, 2005 Crappy and vague. Your clues should lead to one answer only. Better luck next time. |

Posted by thesandzoftyme on May 07, 2005 i am new to this, but its seems to me many are quite critical of an art the don't know...literary license, every heard of it?...if not, i'll put it another way...its not about the real meaning of the word but the image it portrays...write that down, its classic....but fairly good, i know some folks who will be thoroughly confused by it... |

Posted by skimela on May 08, 2005 yayy i got it! and stop causing fuss about it, its just a teaser, its meant to be fun. if it was too easy i bet loads of people would complain about it too |
Posted by FeaerFactorY666 on May 08, 2005 Wow! Very nice! |
Posted by FulanitoGM on May 09, 2005 For the record, I got this one right. Took a wild guess, but it happened to be right. Having said that, I think I got it right because I didn't take everything in the clues literally. Think outside the box, people. It helps, believe me. And finally, to play devil's advocate, it's called a "comments section," not a "nice comments section," or a "don't-be-mean comments section." We're free to critique the teasers, positively or negatively, so don't get on a person's case just because they're "mean." If someone doesn't like a teaser, they can say so. Ideally, they should give something to support the claim, but not everyone's going to do that. Regardless, let bygones be bygones. Anyway, I've said my piece. Have a GREAT day, everyone!! |

Posted by Bastet on May 10, 2005 I got it within a second. It must be all the stapling I do at work. I liked the verse; it was cute. |
Posted by libra0890 on May 15, 2005 hey yo. yeah, the comment section is to let the writer know what he/she needs to work on. so if someone sayst that they dont like it, dont tell them to stop saying all the mean stuff. but that doesnt mean you can say mean things without reason. i think that was a good teaser cuz it fooled a whole bunch of ppl and thats what they are supposed to do. so plz stop telling ppl what to write if they dont like it, they can say so. also, if youre gonna say that its stupid, you should have back up info on why. like state what you dont like about it. just so the writer knows what he/she needs to work on. thank you for your time. |

Posted by rhmaustin on May 22, 2006 Well, PeaceJo, at least you can say you got 'em talking. I got the answer almost immediately, but I've worked in an office for many years. In fact, my trusty stapler is on my desk now. But like others, though I got this riddle right off, I've found others impossible that many people found easy. So ya never know. But I liked this one. |

Posted by coachpisco on May 22, 2006 That was a really good, staple teaser. Oh, sorry, I mean stable teaser. |
Posted by bradon182001 on May 22, 2006 I sure didn't get this one. Didn't even have a guess. Good teaser. |
Posted by BeckyD on May 22, 2006 I never thought "vampire" because they don't "sit and wait" for their prey. They get out on the prowl. At first I thought "snake", but then most don't sit and wait, either, but some do. That's when I thought it must be "spider" because they DO sit and wait on their webs, and then they suck the blood out of the insects they catch. At least MOST species of spiders do, anyway! LOL I sorta agree about the "eternal fate" of a stapler as a part of the riddle was misleading, though. However, I thought it was a pretty good teaser. Some of you folks need to lighten up and just have fun with this stuff instead of taking it sooooo seriously! |
Posted by iteachkids on May 22, 2006 Rocketboy! "... at first i thought it was a snake, then a cat, then a teacher, then a pencil..." You made me feel sooooo bad!!! |

Posted by AwwwSweet on May 22, 2006 HAHAHA, I loved this one! My stapler has quickly been moved to the other side of my desk, What I really love is that everyone who said it sounded like a snake and it was stupid for being a stapler... would have complained if it HAD been a snake saying it was sooo easy and how could it have gotten through the reviewers?! Whatever. It was perfect the way it was. And by the way, giving charity is not the only definition for dole. Dictionary.com people, use it! Dole (v) - To give out in small portions; distribute sparingly |

Posted by kman613 on May 22, 2006 good one! I got too hung up trying to think of animals/insects, etc. |
Posted by Amali on May 22, 2006 Very funny the first thing I thought was easy it`s a vampire . It was a good one but you could use a better title the others are a staple cant eternally join something it can be removed. |

Posted by mcbidjcd on May 22, 2006 You people are not very helpful to the writer just discuraging. The teaser was not that bad just needed to be wored a little different but he did stump most all of us. |
Posted by Evltwnkait on May 22, 2006 well i knew it couldn't be a vampire that would be way WAY WAY to easy, but i didn't get it anyway. i thought the parody was nice: creative. cooli |

Posted by craniac on May 22, 2007 I was thinking "fork," but forks don't exactly join anything, certainly not eternally. Never would have guessed a stapler, even though there's one sitting on my desk. |

Posted by Hungrygit on May 22, 2007 I liked it. Not much in life is 'eternal', so when it is seen in a teaser, i'm happy to take 'eternal' as 'a long time' and not necessarily as 'forever'. I think the Stapler does have might in it's own right. Have you tried pushing staples through six sheets of paper without one? To summarise, give the guy a break! Just because you didn't get it! |
Posted by Dishhead5 on May 22, 2007 I thought it was a vampire, cos when he bites someone they become vampires |
Posted by anion on May 22, 2007 I thought it was hard but the clues are good. I didn't get it but when i read the answer i realized i was on the wrong track. I kept thinking something with fruit which made me think of insects. Great job!!! |
Posted by doehead on May 22, 2007 Summer rerun time |
Posted by MurfQ on May 22, 2007 Overall, not a bad teaser. I did get it pretty quickly, but that obviously doesn't mean it was necessarily too easy. Like some others, I did think the eternally bit was a bit much. I think that's taking "poetic license" a little too far. To use eternally, it should be something at least a little more lasting than a staple. Especially with it being put in the title as well, which seems to give it a great deal more emphasis than the rest of the clues. I loved the imagery though! I'll never look at a stapler the same again |

Posted by 2ndhandrose on May 22, 2007 You got me Too! I thought immediately that it was a fork cooked meat and tastes joined in the mouth? Must have been hungry for my breakfast!! GOOD ONE ! |
Posted by 2ndhandrose on May 22, 2007 Just looked at Corinas answer. I immediately went to animals & food too? FORK sorta fits but not 100%. As I said I was hungry. This is like grocery shopping. Don't do the Teaser till you've eaten first. |

Posted by clearisacolour on May 22, 2007 I thought it was an earring... or an earring gun. But hey, stapler was a great answer to the riddle! I think the point was to make you *think* it was a vampire (which was my first instinct) but then throw you off intentionally. Good job. |
Posted by HOLLYSPRINGS200 on May 22, 2007 Automatically thought it was a snake! defintely thought it was funny when I realized its a Stapler! Thats good. smiles.. |

Posted by OceanStar719 on May 22, 2007 Very clever! I thought of a vampire too! Nice teaser! |
Posted by Hummingbird1 on May 22, 2007 In my opinion, this is exactly what a good teaser is all about. Many of us were misdirected into thinking, too easy, snake, spider, vampire, boring! Then when you get the real answer, you get a giggle. I give it a thumbs up! |
Posted by cheeny13 on May 22, 2007 To all you people who think this was too misleading, I think your definition of a riddle/teaser may need a little adjustment... As for the teaser.. Great one.. I definitely didn't remember from last year! |
Posted by zaya on May 22, 2007 Very poorly written. A stapler doesn't have pointed fangs, only the staple itself does. Staples aren't eternal either, hence the existence of staple removers. |
Posted by 4demo on May 22, 2007 I was thinking along the lines of a vampire too, but the real answer was much more fun! Nice teaser! |
Posted by j9mattfield on May 22, 2007 Well done. As a Buffy/Angel/Blood Ties fanatic, vampire was certainly the first thing I thought off...until I read bloodless. And no, the stapler itself does not have the fangs, but it says "with" and staples are with the stapler. Thanks! |
Posted by ModScorpio on May 22, 2007 My guess was the night since the clues seem to fit. |
Posted by I_Write_Books on May 22, 2007 I remember reading this one before...while I enjoyed it more the first time, it was still enjoyable this time around, too. Very well written and well thought. |
Posted by Irish_chic on May 22, 2007 ha! i didn't get it...good one. |
Posted by bhssoccer23 on May 22, 2007 Oh my gosh, the whole POINT of the teaser is to make you think it's a vampire or snake. Don't get mad when you guess vampire and it's wrong. Things like this actually take a little bit of thought to figure out. That's why they're called BRAIN teasers. People are too critical. Anyway, I thought it was a cute teaser. I liked it, even though I couldn't think of the right answer. |
Posted by Harmony_Girl on May 22, 2007 Nice... |

Posted by Madelulabelle on May 22, 2007 Good one! That is a really creepy description of an everyday thing! |
Posted by GrandmaB on May 22, 2007 We all think differently...and that's the beauty of exercising the mind with these teasers. I was thinking "larger" because it sounded so fearful and final. I came up with a train engine which can be coupled bloodlessly to its cars in one bite...but, knowing nothing about coupling train engines, it probably isn't plausible. |
Posted by breathesunshine on May 22, 2007 Cool and creepy! I could remember reading this one before. It was still just as good! |

Posted by bookworm91 on May 22, 2007 Congrats on making Teaser of the Day! I enjoyed it. I never would have guessed stapler (like many, I was thinking vampire), but once I saw the answer I was like "that's clever!" Anyway, good job. |

Posted by oddrey on May 23, 2007 I loved it! Very well written. I got it right away because right as i sarted thinking i happened to glance at the stapler on my desk. Lucky me! |

Posted by Qrystal on Jun 19, 2007 I thought this was very well done. Misdirection makes for an excellent riddle! Creative use of words also adds nicely to its quality as a teaser. (Me getting it right without much stress? well that was just icing on the cake!) |

Posted by elentir on May 23, 2010 I agree with all the comments about the 'eternal' not really applying. I also wanted to point out that 'bloodless' doesn't really apply either. I have accidentally stapled my fingers a couple times, and drew blood. Also, doctors use staples in lieu of stitches to close up wounds on occasion. I've had three staples in my head for an injury. And those are definitely not meant to be eternal. |

Posted by patiencewithaP on May 23, 2010 No clue... |

Posted by saelle138 on May 23, 2010 Vampire, stapler, no real difference. |

Posted by precious1026 on May 23, 2010 One who uses the stapler on any regular basis, seals the fate of paper or envelops. I can see the analogy. I think. |

Posted by Babe on May 23, 2013 It is a bit misleading and like most others I thought of teeth and vampires. However, if you don't try, you won't learn, so thanks for posting! |

Posted by HABS2933 on May 23, 2013 I'm sorry, but I am with those who said they did not think the clues worked. They were not "misleading", they were outright incorrect. Bound eternally? Hardly - very few things (in fact, I know of none) can bind eternally, some things like nails, or screws are a bit more difficult to remove, but they do sell "staple removers" at any store, not that you need one, a 3 year old could pull apart a stack of stapled pages. I won't even bother with what was wrong with the other clues, they have been mentioned more that once in the preceding comments. For me, this one was a no go. |

Posted by tripleteam5 on May 23, 2013 2.26 diff and got it in 20 sec. seems my brain got lucky lol |

Posted by jaycr on May 23, 2013 Not too crazy about this one. The writer went so far trying to trick the reader that the "clues" didn't fit the answer. |
