A two hundred dollar purchase
With a twenty-five dollar rent,
Until you have all four of us,
Then an even return you'll get.

One is next to Illinois,
And one borders Virginia.
One has no state name next to it,
The fourth's near Pennsylvania

What are we?

Posted by cooltigerr1 on Jul 02, 2007

haha i didnt get it right.
and u have a perfect title

Posted by leftclick on Jul 02, 2007

Nice teaser, apart from being obviously US-centric. The answer should really say "...from the US version of Monopoly"

Posted by Harmony_Girl on Jul 02, 2007

Fun teaser! I agree with cooltigerr1, the title rocks!

Posted by Dontrelle on Jul 02, 2007

Ah! I never would've guessed. Great teaser!

Posted by Xpurrt on Jul 02, 2007

That was funny

Posted by vikingboy on Jul 02, 2007

loved it...took me a minute, but I did get it.

What do the foreign versions use in place of the RR's?

Posted by menz on Jul 02, 2007

I never thought about the fact that a non-U.S. version of Monopoly would have different names for the spaces on Monopoly.....I'll remember that for future teasers (those teasers probably won't center around Monopoly, though!)

Posted by GebbieRose on Jul 03, 2007

Nice teaser!

Posted by cashewnut801 on Jul 03, 2007

Cool, but very easy!

Posted by grilledcheese on Jul 03, 2007

Posted by happyhak on Jul 04, 2007

Posted by Hadleigh on Jul 06, 2007

The english versions has the following railway stations:-
Fenchurch St
Marylebone
Kings Cross
Liverpool St

I knew the answer as the cost and the rent are the same

Posted by 4demo on Jul 16, 2007

Excellent teaser!

Too bad I didn't get the answer even though I spent 2 hours playing Monopoly just yesterday...

Posted by lmurray on Aug 03, 2007

WOULD U BRELIEVE CHILD'S PLAY!

Posted by bradon182001 on Aug 03, 2007

I haven't played Momopoly in years, so that would have been the last thing I thought of. I was thinking of things like Manhattan Island, but that didn't cost $200 now that I rethink it. Good teaser.

Posted by omgitsash on Aug 03, 2007

The title sorta gave it away

Posted by wandering_goat on Aug 03, 2007

Very nice. I didn't get it and the clue didn't help at all.

Posted by jabdr on Aug 03, 2007

Clever one. Knew it was Monopoly immediately, but eliminated a lot of properties before I remembered railroads.

Posted by fredhornaday on Aug 03, 2007

That was a great one. I really liked it alot. I hate playing monopoly because I always get beaten. This time I got one right.

Posted by breathesunshine on Aug 03, 2007

Hey I don't like monopoly either, probably because my older brother always beat me at it when we were kids! Fun one!

Posted by catlver713 on Aug 03, 2007

that's really clever

Posted by wordmama on Aug 03, 2007

I'm usually awful at riddles, but this one I got at the 2nd read-through--no hint, never even looked at the answer!!!

For people who complain 'too easy', I, for one, happen to enjoy getting one once in a while!!

Posted by jabdr on Aug 04, 2007

Amen, wordmama

Posted by wordmama on Aug 05, 2007

Thank you, jabdr!!

Posted by dani4w45t on Aug 03, 2010

That was really, really good! One of the best I've seen. I couldn't figure it out until I saw the hint, coupled with the title. Keep 'em coming!

Posted by beyonce123 on Aug 03, 2010

I love the title

Posted by doehead on Aug 03, 2010

Since this is nothing but an every two to three year repeat program, it is time to say goodbye.

Posted by patiencewithaP on Aug 03, 2010

Easy, fun and well written!

Posted by VitalStatistic on Aug 03, 2010

Very nice. I picked it was Monopoly straight away, but no idea about US towns.

Posted by auntiesis on Aug 04, 2010

Good-bye, Doehead. I didn't get this one the first time, and I didn't get it this time either. My memory is so bad I would probably not get it if it were re-run tomorrow.
