A Poem By A.A. Milne
Can you figure out what A.A. Milne was referring to in this verse from his "When We Were Very Young" book?
She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead."
She wore her yellow sun-bonnet,
She wore her greenest gown;
She turned to the south wind
And curtsied up and down.
She turned to the sunlight
And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbour:
"Winter is dead."

The one thing I forgot to say when I submitted this riddle was it's name. The poem is called " Daffodowndilly" and I do hope you read some more of A.A. Milne's verse. My favourite is "Disobedience", it's all about a three year old called James James Morrison Morrison.
i liked this one, too. well written
Thanks for your comment, Grilledcheese. I can not take the credit for writing this verse. As I said, this is exactly as A.A. Milne wrote. I submitted it as a Teaser so that others might read his verse and enjoy it too as I have done.
Nice teaser!

I loved this one. It came to me right away that it was a flower, but I wasn't quite sure which of the spring flowers it was. I really enjoyed this little trip to AA Milne-ville.
very cool poem but i thought it was a sunflower, i think it works for sunflower too??? anyway thanks for submitting!
Sunflowers don't bloom in the spring, at least not where I live. I really enjoyed this poem, especially since the daffodil is one of my favorite flowers of Spring. I look forward to seeing them come up every year.
I was thinking it was simply sping or summer.
Thanks everyone for your great comments. I can't believe this was made teaser of the day. A.A. Milne is the celebrity not me but thank you, on his behalf for all the comments on his poem.
Nice to find a teaser in this lovely poem..........thanks for sharing

Though of course if you don't really know a lot of poetry, like me, then this one totally confused you.

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments. It was a shock to see this was the Teaser of the Day. A.A. Milne would be pleased to see all of you enjoying his rhymes.
Nice Hadleigh! I knew it (or guessed it) immediately, but I'm a big daffodil lover. Thanks!
I love that line...
That was a superb line from a great poet. I guessed it right off. Loved it. Thanks for the post dear.

Really like this one! I'm not the biggest fan of poetry, but I particularly enjoyed this poem, and have in fact read more Milne poems since I first saw this.
Nice
Oh, doglady, yes I remember you and guess what I love this - even read it to my grandson right off the monitor. He gave me a big grin, so you scored another one. Grayma V
Very nice! I guessed "crocus" since they are an early spring flower, but so is the daffodil and of course fits the description better.
Thank you for the uplifting teaser!

Could also be a sunflower.
Easy!!!
I love A.A. Milne and have enjoyed his books and poems for many years. Had I not studied this poem in my "Kiddie Lit" class in university I am not sure I would have gotten beyond knowing it was a flower.
I know nothing about flowers as I am not botanically inclined and have no interest in becoming so. I have even gone as far as to remove all the dirt from the flower bed in my yard and replace it with lovely white stones. Nothing grows there!

Lovely poem. Sweet and innocent.
Loved it. So sweet.
How very sad Habs! There is nothing more beautiful than nature, and especially in a flower. You do not have to be botanically inclined to dig a hole, put a plant in, and keep it watered to see the lovely result. You can even put it in a nice pot and keep it in the house to admire. I really feel sorry for people that miss out on the pleasure of seeing a flower bloom and watch its beauty of it opening up. Maybe someday you will change your thinking and try it just once. You will be surprised at how it makes you feel. Milne says it correctly!
Lovely! Thanks for posting, Hadleigh. I will look for more of A. A. Milne's writings!
I thought it might be a dandelion, since daffodils are Wordsworth's turf.
Close. I went with sunflower. Not bad; this Milne person may be an okay writer.
