Madadian Holiday
A group of workers from the Madadian Kebab Recycling Factory went on a holiday to the sun soaked coast of Madadia. It rained for 13 days. But when it rained in the morning, the afternoon was lovely. And when it rained in the afternoon, the day was preceded by clear morning.
Altogether there were 11 very nice mornings and 12 very nice afternoons. How many days did their holiday last?

Answer
The holiday lasted for 18 days.Let's assume the number of days as follows:
Rain in the morning and lovely afternoon = X days
Clear morning and rain in the afternoon = Y days
No rain in the morning and in the afternoon = Z days
Number of days with rain = X + Y = 13 days
Number of days with clear mornings = Y + Z = 11 days
Number of days with clear afternoons = X + Z = 12 days
Solving above 3 equations, we get X = 7, Y = 6 and Z = 5
Hence, total number of days on holiday = 18 days.

O k but no 1 can b bothered to do all of those sums
Speak for yourself, amom01380. What you
mean is "I can't be bothered to do
all those sums." If so, feel free to
skip the Math teasers altogether - why
torture yourself with problems you
are not likely to enjoy? Different
people have different tastes - I happen
to like Math teasers, but often take a pass
on some of the other categories.
For what it's worth, I did this one in
my head, taking a few shortcuts. The
problem makes it clear that each rainy
day contributes half of a nice day to the
vacation, and there were 23 nice half-days
all totaled - so the 13 rainy days account
for 13 nice half-days, leaving 10 nice half-days
to be covered by days it didn't rain at all,
or 5 days that were completely nice.
13+5 = 18 days total in the vacation.
