Brain Teasers
The Object
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
A small round object sitting on a table slides across very slowly and soon comes to a stop when a person hits it. Then the person changes one thing about the situation, and hits the object again with the same force, and the object goes much farther and faster. It is the same table, the same object, and the same force used in hitting it.

Hint
Think about games.Answer
The table is an air hockey table. The person turned on the air. This takes away a LOT of friction so the object (an air hockey puck) goes much faster.Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer

Freezing Cool. I am adding christina to my favorites. wink
*blushes* Thanks!!
I thought it was that the ball (as I thought it was) was pushed faster before he hit it. But Ur answer works 2. Good 1!
exellent and I could figure it out without twisting my brain cells in a knot.Sometimes the simple ones are the best. Keep em coming
love it Love it LOVE IT did I mencheion that I love it?
*smiles* Thank you!!
I thought that the person was playing pool! Fooled me!
Could the one thing that was changed be the angle of the table so that instead of being a flat surface there is now an incline?
Interesting. I've never seen or heard of air hockey. The puzzle was kind of impossible for me. I figured changing the angle on the cue in a game of billiards.
i assumed that friction was removed, but i decided that the person had removed the grip from the bottom of the item, thus allowing it to slide further due to reduced friction.
air hockey table works as well..
air hockey table works as well..
I LUV air hockey
great! ...and easy!
Why does it come to a stop when the person hits it?
I thought the round object was a checker, or similar cylindrical piece. The first time he hit it while it was on one of its two faces. Then he set it on its edge so that it would roll far when he hit it.
Could be a plate, and the one thing changed is tilting the table down.
A plate is a small round object.
It slides across a table slowly and soon comes to a stop if someone pushes it.
All else being equal, tilting the table down would make the plate go faster and farther after being hit.
It says it's the same table, doesn't say the table remains the same.
