Brain Teasers
The Dead Driver
When the police arrived, a man was lying dead under a car. Investigations revealed that although he was not the car's owner, he was the last person to drive it. The car had last been driven that morning, but the man's time of death was established at about 3 P.M. The car's owner was discovered in the south of France. No one else was involved in the affair and eventually the police and the coroner were satisfied that no crime had been committed. What is the explanation?
Answer
The man was a mechanic. While the owner was away, he was working on the car, but the jack gave way and the car fell on him.Hide Answer Show Answer

That wouldn't work. If the car was on a jack, it wouldn't be able to fall out unless there wasn't any weight on it. Pluss, it probably wouldn't kill him anyway (unless it is a car that rides really low to the ground)
Maybe it was a low rider, or he was working under the wheel, but hey! it got me 50 points!
So Mike, you must be a mechanic since you seem to know all there is to know about jacks and how prone they are to fall out. Think before you speak, smarty pants. As to BigMan, congrats on your 50 points bro!
I don't get the south of France part
Ouch. Painful way to die, although I have never heard of anyone dying like that.

Don't understand if the south of france part was to throw you or what....but not sure it needed to be there.
uhm...will a ton of metal falling on yuo from 2 ft high kill you or just be really painful?? I dont know...but was just wondering..interesting though
cute
I had thought he had a heart attack while changing a tire. I didn't get the S of France either. . . . was that important to know?? *just curious*

okay, I know this is out there but I did get the south of france deal. The owner need a lot of work done on his car. And it would have been a great time to get the needed repairs done. Thank u Thanku very much!!!!!!!!!!
whoa
Ha! and I thought it was Carbon Monoxide poisoning while he was under the car looking for change or something!
Maybe this can only happen when the owner 'is in South France.' Is this an old Charlie Chan Mystery?
ouchy
I've definitely read this in a Mensa book before...
If the dead man was a mechanic, he was a stupid one, because a mechanic would have the car either on ramps or on a lift.
He definitely would not have been working under an unstable car, believe me.

P.S. The owner was in the S of F to show that he had nothing to do with the demise of the stupid mechanic.
ohhHHHhhh...so that's what happened...
Well I was wondering what sort of car thief would take a nap in the shade of the front of a car without putting the car in Park first!
Now I know it was a mechanic that was stupid instead of a car thief that was stupid!
Well you got me and this was fun!

I wondered if there was a hill nearby and the man went to look at something and he (stupidly) left the car on neutral and it hit him or ran him over.
i didnt understand it.
To the first person who posted, a mechanic was killed from a tractor falling on him in New Zealand not too long ago. Although, I guessed that the car didn't have a handbrake on, and rolled down a hill, killing him at the bottom.
I figured he was a mechanic, but I had no idea how he would die.
I liked this! It took me ages to work out!
